1. Surely no extra DI box needed. Just connect straight from Streamliner DI output to Apogee input. Level is controlled by Volume knob 2nd from left.
2. Appearance was one of the factors that made me decide on a P-derived bass rather than a Dingwall. (The other was cost!) I didn't think I could turn up for a country gig with a fan-fretted five! In general if I consider a bass or guitar to be fugly I will just keep looking, no matter how good it is in other respects.
3. A bit alarmed to hear this, being a VM4 owner myself. I have had mine nearly a year, so I'm thinking any problem should have showed itself by now. However I recently fitted higher tension strings (45-105 Chrome flats in place of the 40-100 rounds it came with), so I'm hoping this won't cause bother. Thinking about it, that's got to be an issue with the wood grain - a duff but of timber getting through the QC process?
4.
I first heard 'Darling Dear' in 1970 on the Jackson Five 'Third Album' where it was the last track. I loved in then and still think it's one of the best bass guitar performances ever on vinyl.................Enjoy!!!
Gonna have to but a Greatest Hits rather than just listen to them on U-Toob!
5.
Yep a 'studio switch' can be one of the most valuable additions to your bass if you want to preserve your tone
Ah, the time-honoured DFA control!
6. Just pulled out the dots for 'I Want You Back'. Boy things have changed since I first attempted this! On the gear front I can now create a tight punchy sound, which is something my Ashdown rig (bless it) never gave me; and my technique has improved more than I realised. It's all gravy! EDIT: That breakdown is still a finger-knotter though!
7.
The music press and radio stations had some great fun with the story at the time.
Well I never knew that!
8.
That was Chuck Rainey - no wonder it's lovely!
Day off today, so into the shed with Gary and Chuck!
9. Just found this Talkbass thread on Gary King.
10.
I love those basslines too. Here's some info from a Google search: Gary King The late New York studio vet (Bob James, Roberta Flack) played on the Jacksons album Destiny [Epic, 1978], including the hit "Blame It on the Boogie." http://www.bassplaye...ing-of-pop/4769
Cheers for that. Did he by any chance play on Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway's version of 'You've Got a Friend'? That's just lovely.
11. I find that headphones help a lot when transcribing tricky or indistinct parts.
12.
Stop wasting time on the internet & get in the shed;)
If I spent as much time practising as I do piddling around on Basschat...
13. I recently came across a printed bass part that I did about 8 tears ago for 'Blame It On The Boogie'. At the time I would often download a MIDI song file and import the bass line into a program called Encore, then tidy it up. I had transposed it down to Db for a dep gig that I think never came off. I realised this when I tried to play along to the track! Anyway, I did a new version in Sibelius in the original key of Eb - what a great song, and a superb bass line - it really makes the song. I've had so much fun playing it, as my technique has somewhat moved on since I originally tried it. I know I have a bass part for 'I Want You Back' as well, and that one is pretty tricky, with off-beat 16th-note runs, especially in the breakdown. I aim to give that the same treatment. Where am I going with this? First I just wanted to share the love for great disco songs. Second, does anyone know who played bass on these records? One of the brothers? Famous session player? Little-known session player?
14. Welcome aalam! I was 40 when I started to learn bass, so it really is never too late. Have fun playing along with all sorts of music, then find other people to play with - that's even more fun!
15. Again, pics would help.
16. Thursday BUMP. Here comes the weekend!
17. Needs more MIDI imo.
18. My band Diamonds & Dirt plays a range of this kind of material. Country sometimes gets a bad rep, usually from people who have never listened to it! There is pretty much a sub-genre for everyone, a bit like metal really... or not!
19. I've been frequenting Denmark Street for some 20 years and made a fair few purchases there. Most of it is one big shop with stock going back and forth across the street. Don't expect genuine price comparisons! If Wunjo is indeed a distinct business then that can only be a good thing. I am heading up there on Saturday for a look about - stand by for my findings!
20. I have a KAM folding par bar. I'll use it in a small venue that just has room lights (many pubs and clubs for example). If the venue has even a few coloured spots, I won't bother. On a large stage it is not really enough, but better than nothing. You want 2 really, but my car is rammed as it is!
21.
Just a thought, but I wonder if any of those bidders are going to be taking advantage of Ebay's policy of instructing bidders of counterfeits to keep the item whilst also refunding them?
So... anyone bid on this now!? I've reported it too.
