Playing whilst Sick (Tales/regrets when the show went on..)
JapanAxe replied to ARGH's topic in General Discussion
I came down with a fever during the first of 3 sets on lead guitar, accompanying a country singer/guitarist who used a drum machine. The gig was somewhat challenging anyway as, not only was I playing unfamiliar material completely by ear, but the guy worked in 2-beat chunks - if he’d finished a vocal line before the end of beat 2 he’d immediately start the next one! I spent the breaks pressed against a radiator, trying to subdue the shivering. I couldn’t have left early as I’d shared a lift with the guy from part way there. -
RATstands Jazz Stand. Pros: Strong Light Folds flat without tools Adjusts to any reasonable height Extra ledge for pencils etc Cons: Pricey

99.99% of the time I would agree with you, but the Barefaced 4x10 etc have low pass filters on one side to prevent phase cancellation.

Playing guitar with a rock’n’roll band at a pub in central Cardiff. I honestly can’t think of a single thing that could go wrong…

What is the most you'd personally pay for a new bass?
JapanAxe replied to lidl e's topic in Bass Guitars
The most I’ve paid for a brand new bass is £1,450 for my AVRI Precision (about 7 years ago). I paid £2,495 for a new CS Strat (around 9 years ago) and that’s the record to date. -
This:

Nope, BV1001T (tube/valve) is currently £406, BV1001M (MOSFET) is £319.
-
Now down to the last few and they’re £319.

Precision. A good P gives me the range of sounds that I like. But I’m 100% in favour of everyone using what works for them.

I've always used it into a 4ohm load in the form of a Barefaced Super Twin and I've never had it past about half-way on the master volume. To me the key to being heard in a loud band with this amp is how you set the drive and the mids - there's a point at which it just seems to come alive. I never use cabs with tweeters but I understand that EBS amps can put out a fearsome amount of top end! Looking at the GR specs the 2x12 seems to have 2 or 3dB more sensitivity than the Super Twin. You're more than welcome to swing by and try it if that's feasible for you - I'll bash away on guitar through a loud combo for a real-world playing test!

There’s a guy called Ollie in Bristol who has the user name Ampstack - he used to be on here and he’s definitely on Facebook.

I can’t remember whether I’ve weighed in on this thread before but in general I love gigging, it’s what I get out of bed for. Having said that, there are gigs that I avoid - not necessarily awful places, but some that just aren’t worth it e.g. a pub that isn’t too far away but takes me 3 hours to get to on a Friday night.

This project has been parked for a while. I had last week off and finally got round to measuring the output power - bang on 25W! Hmm... not quite the 50W amp I was hoping for (and yes I know about watts and decibels). I woke up in the middle of the night and thought of some things to check. Thinking about it, the Modulus OT is rated at 30W so I shouldn't be surprised. I'm still puzzled though - how does the Ampeg PF-50T get 50W out of its much smaller transformers?

What’s that c-shaped gubbins on the floor?
