1.
Man, the 450 and 750 is all abouts mids mids mids, I've never once ever had issues with volume, tone, compression, or anything. In fact, the 450 sounded 'larger' than most the 500W similar micros.
True. The EQ centre frequencies on the Classic are 200Hz, 400Hz, 800Hz, and 1.6kHz, so despite the labels they are all mid range controls! I happen to like this, but if you are one of those people who enjoys frequencies of 5kHz or more in their bass sound, you will need to access the TweeterTone(TM) control on your RH, or if you have a Classic - get a different amp!
 2.
Oooh, and McAfee doesn't like their site.
I wouldn't know, I use Macs. Macs sneer at viruses!

Here are some things you might want to know:

I am based in Swindon, so realistically I am looking at the M4 corridor, home counties, South coast, West country, and up to Birmimgham.
I have reliable transport, decent kit, and most of my own teeth.
Electric, steel string acoustic, nylon string acoustic.
Preferred genres: pop, soul, rock, indie, punk, ska, rock'n'roll, country, dance band (very basic reading ability).
I can sing, and can harmonise on songs that are familiar to me. 5. Anyone had dealings with cotswoldbassguitars.co.uk? Is David M. a member on here? They always seem to have lots of interesting stock at any given time.
 6. Listened to Iggy Pop's 'The Idiot' on my drive home this afternoon, for the first time in a long while. I'm a huge Bowie fan, but Iggy's version of China Girl urinates all over Bowie's from a great height!
 7.
I'm more tempted than a tempted thing to try and get hold of a streamliner while they're as cheap as they currently are!
Believe it or not, I have not yet decided whether to keep this*, and will probably come to a decision after Saturday! If it's a 'no', watch the Marketplace... *My plan is to buy and try a few different used heads and just keep the one(s) I like the best.
 8. I've seen these inlets fitted 'sideways' too - really there is no right or wrong!
 9. I bought this used from eBay for a jolly good price. Fired it up through my Compact after it arrived (Saturday) and was initially underwhelmed. Over the last year I have become used to my TC Classic 450, and its growly TubeTone™ sound is now my benchmark. I needed to crank the gain on the 900 to about 2 o'clock (with the gain switch in) to get the same growl. Later on I whipped the top cover off and checked the valves on my Orange Valve Tester. V1 was a JJ ECC83S and tested fine, but the V2 and V3 (both Ruby Tubes) failed! I replaced them with a couple of unbranded valves from my stock of spares, and plugged the amp into my Midget. With my Sandberrg Cali VM4 (strung with flats) in hand, I set about tweaking the tone. I also referred to this really useful Talkbass thread on the Streamliner preamp. With bass at 11 o'clock, mid at 2 o'clock (600Hz) and treble flat, I got a lovely full round tone. The single word that best describes it is 'authoritative' - the notes sound like they mean it! Even with some grit dialled in, the Streamliner is much more transparent than the Classic. I don't mean 'hi-fi squeaky clean'; rather, where the Classic imposes its character, the Streamliner lets you hear even subtle changes in tone and pickup blend. I will be giging this amp next Saturday, so I'll come back soon after with a fuller report. From another thread:
The Streamliner is a superb match for the Midget though as well.
Exactly!
 10. Why not just buy a cheap used Ashdown head and use the whole power amp section and transformer?
 11. My complaint about Strictly is that no bugger comes out till it's finished. My band played a social club gig last night, due to start at 8. Four (4) paying punters in the room. Hirer suggested don't start till 8.15, by which time a few more had drifted in, but the place didn't really fill up till half way through the evening, so people paying £6 on the door for half a night's entertainment. I suppose they're the ones losing out in the end.
 12.
Be very, very careful about the TC RH450. It can be quite an 'immediate' sounding amp in a demo room but a total tone-sucker if not matched with the right cabs and can disappear completely in a live band mix
Never had this problem with the TC Classic 450, which isn't that different when you take away the bells and whistles. Then again I've only gigged it thru BF cabs.
The Streamliner is a superb match for the Midget though as well.
+1 to that! (In-depth post on Streamliner 900 to follow, elsewhere within this esteemed forum...)
 13. Does anyone think he now uses a Class D micro head and neo cabs? I reckon not...
 14.
Of course then I tried to actually pick it up and gave myself a hernia.
I gave myself a hernia just looking at the pictures! This is a rig for a band with roadies!
 15. I don't think I've ever tried one so I can only comment on the looks. I think they look pretty cool.
 16. Hasn't come yet so gigging the TC Classic tonight. This is ridiculously loud through the Compact/Midget stack, so goodness knows what the Genz-powered version will be capable of! WMD anyone?
 17. I would just use the smallest version of my rig i.e. Small head and 1x12 cab. A woody-sounding fretless can also come across as more suitable to the genre but lay off the chorus pedal! Also if your drummer won't be there, consider one of you playing a logjam (or similar) foot stomper through your PA. If there are to be no percussion instruments this represents a major change in the band dynamic; who is now driving the rhythm?
 18. I really like these but basses I can't get on with those go-faster stripes!
 19. Not weird but arguably wonderful:
 20. Everybody assumes someone else will bid and then nobody does except me! Look out for a NAD thread and then maybe a review, or a comparison with the Classic 450.
 21. Well folks that seems to have worked because I just snagged it for £400! May even have it in time for Friday night's gig!
 22. Impossible to do anything else when listening to Bitches Brew - the opposite of background music! (Foreground music!?)
