1. My band was booked for New Year's Eve, but the club has encountered problems which have led to the event being cancelled. Although I am looking for alternative gigs for the band, the prospects at this fairly late stage are not great. So, I am available! Things you might want to know:

I am based in Swindon, so realistically I am looking at the M4 corridor, home counties, South coast, West country,
and up to Birmimgham.
I have reliable transport, decent kit, and most of my own teeth.
Preferred genres: pop, soul, rock, indie, punk, ska, rock'n'roll, country, dance band (basic reading ability).
Avoid: jazz, metal.
I can sing, and can harmonise on songs that are familiar to me.
Any questions or offers, post here or PM me. I am also available to dep on guitar.
 2. When I joined Basschat about a year ago, I had 3 4-string basses, a combo and extension speaker for gigging, and a practice amp. Now I have a 4-string, a 5-string, and a fretless, a micro head and 2 lightweight cabs. I have also sold my last remaining bass fx pedal. Nothing remains from my original setup. I therefore have less kit than a year ago; what I have is far more versatile; and yes I have spent a small fortune making the transition. But what a GAS it's been!
 3. <voice of Alf from the Fast Show> Bugger! My cab GAS was all sorted, then this lot comes along. Oh bugger! </voice of Alf from the Fast Show>
 4. Just got in from country gig with my trio, myself on guitar. The venue has an electrical transformer station behind the back wall of the stage, so hum-cancelling pickups are essential. For that reason I played my Les Paul for the 1st and 3rd sets, and my Strat (in p/u positions 2 and 4) for the 2nd. The LP was a little dark for some numbers, but sounded ace with a bit of analog delay - almost like a fat steel guitar at times. Trad country crowd, so played mostly trad country songs. Went down very well indeed. Day off now to chill and... er... do tax return! Also one of my stage light didn't work, so will have to get that sorted before next gig.
 5.
I put casters on my big cab by drilling all the way through & using bolts with big washers on the inside. Makes everyting tight & sealed - to make sure you could use silicon on everything before tightening. I'd do feet the same way. G.
A Compact doesn't really need casters!
 6. I note the positioning of the carry handles invites sharing the load with a fellow band member - cunning!
 7. Hartke kick-back combos are cheap as chips used, but no FX except a limiter. The 35W version is pretty small, and the one I had would just about manage a rehearsal with a (restrained) drummer. I mean a drummer that kept the volume down, not one that was tied up or anything.
 8. 1. Paint the insides of the screw holes with white PVA wood glue, diluted 50/50 with water. Allow to dry. 2. Make a paste from fine sawdust and PVA, with just enough glue to bond the sawdust. Pack the holes with the paste, allow to dry thoroughly (preferably overnight). 3. Drill a small pilot hole for the screw. 4. Fit the feet using the screws. You could also consider repositioning the feet so that they still cover the old holes, in which case omit steps 1 and 2. Possibly - 5. Coat the tops of the feet and the corresponding surface of the cab with a thin layer of contact adhesive, and allow to go tacky (see instructions). 6. Place feet firmly in position and replace screws. However, you would need to be sure that there will be no adverse reaction between the adhesive and the black cab finish, so - 7. Talk to Alex!
 9.
Here you go. Pic 1. Bluejay will be along with more
I missed that workshop, too busy ogling/groping other people's kit.
 10.
Very true but G&L don't have a Fender logo on the headstock. That will make the difference to a lot of bassists.
Yep, the Fender logo on an active bass is a useful warning to potential purchasers.
 11.
It's the 'stealth' model All black,..
Probably wouldn't show up in a picture anyway!
 12.
A top day. Thanks to those who organised it so well. I am glad I took my earplugs though.....
Likewise! Feeling a bit pooped now
 13. Superb day! Great to meet the people behind the avatars, amazed to find that xilddx's avatar is in fact his passport photo! Didn't expect the pastries either. Although I did find myself GASing after a few things, the overall effect was to reduce my GAS list by giving me the opportunity to try things I thought I wanted, and then find that I didn't after all. Thanks to everyone who let me try out their kit, in some cases putting one BCer's a amp head through another's cab! EDIT: spelling correction for [s]silddx[/s] [s]xilddx[/s] Nige.
 14. In addition to stands for my own basses, I am bringing a 3-space stand that will be marked FREE PARKING. Shockwave has first dibs on this for his Antigua P, after that if you have nowhere safe to park your bass, just look for the little signs.
 15. Only a matter of time before someone nominates their significant other
 16.
In that case I'll bring my GK MB200 as well as the TH500 as I'd like to hear how they sound with a Midget.
Most excellent!
 17.
I used to work in Leeds University & the guy who I reported to did all the PAT testing for the Uni. To do it he had a certificate & I would often help him do the testing. It's a small suitcase size machine that you plug electrical items into.....it switches on.....runs the test & you get a message to say it's done. It's really not hard to do at all.
I actually did a day's training on this ... About 15 years ago, so my competence has somewhat lapsed!
 18. The more I look at these the more I am reminded of the Variax bass but with pickup(s).
 19. Ooh I want something like this to go with my BF cabs.
