1. I do get a bit of click from my MXR Carbon Copy (in my guitar rig btw) as it's a mechanical switch, also last in the chain. But not enough to send me looking for solutions. It's normal, whereas buffered switching (as in Boss pedals) is usually close to silent.
2. Just brought up a pic of an RBX270J. The bridge looks no better or worse than what you find on MIM Fenders. Check the dimensions, but it looks like a Gotoh Contemporary would fit the bill for a chunkier bridge:
3. Congratulations! You can pretty much rely on Yamaha to be well sorted in the build department. Regarding the bridge, take some measurements of base-plate size and screw hole positions, than have a look at WD Music and Axes'r'Us.
4.
Closed cell foam from ebay, cut with a stanley knife and holes made by hand with a large drillbit:
Now that is neat! I too used that non-slip-mat stuff to stop an IEM transmitter from plummeting from the top of my bass stack (at that time, an Ashdown ABM rig). I still use a piece between my TC head and BF cab(s) but I'm wondering now whether I really need to. I have put bigger feet on my TC so that it will clear the Midget's handle, but they are cut-down door-stops, and are made of hard plastic rather than non-slip rubber. For this reason, even if the cab shouldn't vibrate, I don't want to risk it. Plus the bass drum pedal about 4ft away could just as easily be the culprit!
5. Feeling a bit cross with myself that I compromised on this bit of technique. I recall when I moved from plectrum to fingerstyle - it just seemed impossible at first, but I kept at it it and one day it just clicked.
6.
My 2 active basses don't have a passive switch, so can't be that common ^_^
No it's not. Big selling point for me! G&L - fully passive treble and bass controls, active mode adds a preamp with a preset boost/contour. Sandberg - passive mode ignore bass pot, treble pot now only effective over lower half of range (i.e. cut only), but blend still works (yay!)
7.
Anyone got a spare slot in a stand for my Warmoth Antigua P-J bass?
I am planning on bringing more stands than basses. Will be nice to see you again Rob.
8. Try the P into something else, maybe a practice amp or a DAW. Does it still sound bad? Also on a P pickup I like to back off the part of the pickup under the low E by putting a couple of clockwise turns on the pickup mounting screw furthest from the floor - this puts that half of the pickup on a tilt, and stops the E string overpowering the others. You can also do the opposite on the far side of the strings if you have a weak G.
9. Tried a LB30 in PMT Bristol yesterday, through a massive Orange 1x15 cab (OBC115 I think). Disappointingly quiet I have to say. This was with a meaty passive bass (Yamaha BB714BS), gain at 3 o'clock, master at 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock. I assume there was some sort of problem, or maybe the cab was not very efficient.
10. I use a fully-loaded PT2. The case with it is monstrously huge, so on occasion (when space is very short) I have used a cheap holdall with a piece of foam over the knobs. It works but it's not ideal.
11.
Here ya go. Even a girl can do it. : )
Dammit I can't even tell what that girl's RH fingers are doing. YouTube slow-downer anyone? She has a nice tone too.
12. Can you get any growl out of the gain control, or is just to optimise your incoming signal level?
13.
Not all active basses have active/passive switches, mine certainly doesn't. That's pretty much it.
A huge boon! Dead battery? Flip the switch and carry on...
14.
List amended with latest info on bits being brought
Best add TC Classic to that too!
15.
Is anyone interested in a Warwick ProFet 3? Considering selling and if anyone might fancy a look I will bring it with.
I'm looking at 'grown up' bass heads at the moment, would be interested to try it in my quest for sonic nirvana.
16.
Is anyone bringing a Barefaced Midget that I can try?
Hi I'll bring mine along, I've got plenty room so may as well bring my micro rig! It's the non-tweeter version btw.
17. Five! Though tbh this is probably out of my league anyway. Also although I am a professional in the sense of professionally qualified for my day job, I guess they mean professional musician ie does it for a living.
18. I have always cheated on this and just played 1/8-note octaves. Hope that makes you feel better.
19. BC has seen a number of threads like this, even in the 12 months or so since I've been here. Short answer: persevere. Longer answer: go for a longish walk, take a notebook with you, have a good think and write down the things you like or don't like about playing in bands (you might have to stop walking occasionally to manage this), then imagine the sort of setup that would best fit your wish list. Maybe sleep on it. Then go out and look for it. Either you will be firm and stick to what you want, or you will compromise and risk disappointment. Also possible to compromise and find yourself pleasantly surprised. Can't see the attraction in knitting though.
20. You can check out the schematics on t'interweb. Or open up the casing and look. The Fuzz Face has just 2 transistors (numerous variations exist), e.g: ...whereas the Big Muff uses pairs of clipping diodes (like stacked overdrive pedals): WARNING: Too close an interest in the workings of fuzz pedals can send you wibbly-hatstand!
21. Well I'll be watching the pile-'em-high-sell-'em-cheap outlets for a bargain Streamliner 600! £499 you say?
