1. Your bass is trying to drive the output of your phone - and failing! You could try putting a 1k resistor in line with each source.
2. Having owned a Blade R3 (I think) I can confirm the build quality and playability are top notch. The sound tends to divide opinions though - certainly the guitar sounded very 'modern'. If you like yours - result!
3. Some songs pretty much need fingers, some pretty much need a pick*. For the rest, you choose. *disclaimer: it ain't necessarily so!
4.
I would disagree.
Well I was disappointed!
5. Couldn't find a feedback thread for Soulman so here it is! Bought a set of tuners from Julian - among the best-packed of packages I've ever received! Also kindly offered telephone support, which was nice

Rumple

Bought a set of strings from Dave, sent to me the same day as I paid, and arrived well wrapped. Result!
7. You can check the type of pot by disconnecting it from the circuit (including any connection from tag to pot body), setting it to half, and comparing the resistance from the middle tag to each of the other tags in turn. If they are about the same, it's linear; if very different, it's logarithmic. If you are replacing pots, I suggest you take the opportunity to up the quality by fitting CTS pots.
8. Having been in a similar (but not identical) position, I would offer to do one rehearsal with the new person also present, and if the band think they need more, they can use the opportunity to get the new bod up to speed. I try never to burn bridges if I'm on my way out - I even supplied my last successor with tab for as many of the songs as I could!
9. Not exactly musical, and the guy's bass face rivals that of the bassist in Haim. Also at about 0.07 you can see the headstock decal. It says Tagima, but I thought it said Tagina, which is very easy to mis-spell...
10. No pics? Are we talking about one of these:
11.
mmm, well I think the best bass specific shop is the 'For Sale' section on this very forum , and yes, I've used it lots and lots!!
+1! This is a local shop for local bass players.
12. ...from Kamakiriad, possibly the most disappointing album ever to emerge fro the Steely Dan stable
13. But it's all the wrong way round!
14. Insurance will only do (at most) what it says on the tin. If you get cover for just one member, you will be stuffed when a punter falls over another member's bit of kit. These companies don't just pay out, they will make a thorough investigation into exactly what happened.
15. I ran an Ashdown ABM rig for 12 years. I had one issue with a speaker braid coming free, otherwise 100% reliable. Ideally try one with your own bass whilst being accompanied by guitar and drums.
16. Just bought some 9v power sockets from Richard, no complaints whatsoever!
17.
... it was bought on behalf of a colleague who has decided he wants to buy a new Behringer head from a shop 'with a warranty' (I know...)
At least your colleague will have an excuse for lots of trips back to the the music shop
18. You want a Rat Stands Jazz Stand plus carry bag. 5-second setup, strong as you like, stick the pad in the other pocket in the carry bag - sorted! I bought mine from DJM Music.
19. I'm no technophobe but I never seemed to hit it off with MIDI. It always seems to do what it wants, and not what I want it to do. Trouble is I need to use it to tweak up my godawful drumming on my digital kit. I recently purchased Sagantech Metro SE which includes an excellent MIDI sequencer. I took the opportunity to re-do all my MIDI connections and check that my home-made MIDI patchbay was working, and all seemed fine. However, I couldn't get the program to respond to MIDI clock from my 16-track recorder (I love hardware me!), and eventually tracked it down to an unsoldered joint in the patchbay, which sometimes made a connection and sometimes didn't. I built the thing in 2000 or 2001, so goodness knows how many problems that gadget has caused me! So, just sharing some of that happy bunny feeling. Off now to prepare for tonight's gig at Portishead WMC - truly the big time...
20. Gotta be worth it for the custom Mike Dirnt neck plate. If the gig's not going well, just lift your bass to eye level and take inspiration from it. Or maybe not.
21.
I don't think the difference between an Ashdown 1X15 and a Compact is in any sense incremental!
It is - it's just a very large increment
22.
You can buy an Ashdown 1 x 15 for about £150 on here. Even brand new they're ony £350. What's a Compact - £700?
True but part of the allure of GAS is spending loadsa money and convincing yourself it was worth it for the incremental improvement!
23.
Thanks for the replies all. I'll probably stick with the GT6b for a while and slowly put together a smaller separates board for those nice occasions. MM
Good call. Buy your pedals etc used. At some point, having gigged both setups, you will most likely think, 'I really prefer this one' (can't predic which!), then you can retire the other, and optionally sell it without losing a load of dosh.
24. My BF Compact sounded different from my Ashdown 1x15. I decided I preferred the BF, YMMV. Ok mods you can lock this thread now
