1. A small wire brush is useful for cleaning up corroded battery terminals.
2. ∧∧∧ You can't beat a nice bit of Fanny! What?
3. Not sure why we're owning up to our ages, but what the hell, I'm 52. I play guitar and bass and I sing lead and harmony vocals. Not many days go by without me doing an hour's playing and/or singing practice, usually in preparation for an upcoming gig. If I don't have something specific to aim for, I will work through stuff in Guitarist magazine or transcription books.

Gone

Reciprocal bump in the hope that you sell your Lakland and get in the queue to buy my Precision. There's probably a rule against doing this...
5. At the risk of re-railing this thread: For the last 20 years, my gear acquisitions have been funded by gig money, occasional birthday/Christmas gifts, and an inheritance. Thus they don't impact on the household finances. Mrs Axe has occasionally commented on the resulting large number of instruments in my box room of a man cave, but I need only remind her of her bag-buying habits to be reminded in return of the frighteningly huge CD collection occupying a large part of our living room wall. Conclusion: dunno really, but if it's a choice between venting GAS and feeding the kids - well it won't hurt them to miss a couple of meals...
6. I use these on my geetar pedalboard and highly recommend them. This qualifies for free bumpage!
7. P-bass love gets to every bass player eventually...
8. Now that I have my BF Midget, this well-cared-for combo is up for sale. Key features are Hartke's shiny bright aluminium-cone 10in speaker, a 4-band EQ, and an effects loop. The icing on the cake is the limiter, which allows you to milk maximum volume from the amp without straying into overload. I guess this amp might be of interest to DB players too. Looking for £120 delivered (UK only, payment by bank transfer), or bring your bass to my gaffe in Swindon and try it for yourself (and save the shipping costs). 9. Bugger! That's supposed to be a public folder! Give me a minute or two... Here you go:
10. This is my much loved, well-gigged, and luscious-looking P-bass. I never thought much of Precisions till I tried this one, and it has been my companion through several years of punk, indie, soul, and dance band gigs. Despite my best efforts to look after the instrument, it has picked up a little damage. There is a tiny mark in the headstock lacquer beneath the Fender logo, and some gouges/scratches on the bottom edge below the tone controls (shown in the pictures) - otherwise it's in very good condition, with no other major dings. The neck is very comfy to play, wide but not too deep. The tone control goes from punk brightness to fat dubbiness, and all points in between. So why sell? I bought a Sandberg! But I will miss this bass... I am looking for £425 delivered (payment by bank transfer - mainland UK only), or you are welcome to come and try the bass and pay with cash (obviously I'll knock off the shipping cost). Not looking for any trades unless you happen to have an Eastwood electric mandola in sea-foam green! Pictures
11. I have the Midget and TC Classic in my practice room, so my gigging and practice sounds are the same. I gave the rig 8 hours of 25hz and it is sounding very nice! I used this rig at tonight's rehearsal but I'll save a full review till after Saturday's gig.
12.
In the past I have put several layers of duct tape over the microphone on the sound limiter. None of the staff noticed and I forgot to take the tape off after the gig. Oooops. Frank.
I fear the mic is at such an altitude that this would be impracticable and/or highly perilous! Anyway it's the final rehearsal tomorrow, in front of a few of our respective family members - can't wait to see the reaction to the Midget (that's the speaker cab btw, not Mrs Axe, tho' she is only 5'2'').
13. The Ashdown VU meter is a gimmick - use your ears to check for distortion! You can usually get more drive by setting the input balance towards the valve side. Set your input gain for the desired amount of drive, then use the master as a volume control.
14.
Now you know why the gig is available...
They have a country gig there every month!
15. <2p> Save your money and buy some new strings - that will do more for your sound than any fx pedal. </2p>
16. In the interests of narrowing the field I can confirm that it's not me, and couldn't be either, for any number of reasons.
17. I have an Akai Intelliphase and I can tell you that is a giveaway price! A shop in Denmark St was selling one for a ton! So have a bump on me
18. There may be more to it than that. Fender may be requiring DV to stock a certain portion of their range for example (I heard Line 6 used to do this). Fender may also be twitchy about DV stocking competing brands that would show up how poor some of their output now is!
19. A friend of mine has one - strictly garage use only, wouldn't want to try carting it about. Unless you fitted a tow hitch and wheels to it
20.
The real cunning plan would be to get hold of a drummer who can play quietly. Proper drummers can alter their volume. I'd rather take the Compact. It'll sound better at low volume.
It ain't me that's hiring the drummer! There's no guarantee of being able to get into the loading area, so another part of my cunning plan is to park in the free car park 5 minutes' walk away, and walk it in one go. Mrs Axe can carry my stage clothes, I'll handle the rest!
21. There is always the ruse of running an extension lead to another socket that isn't controlled by the noise meter. I once had to do this because I found there was no earth on the socket we were supposed to use! (I always carry a ring-main tester with me.)
22. Next Saturday I am playing a dep country gig with what is effectively a 'scratch' band pulled together to honour a long-standing booking. The line-up is:
Female singer - 2/3 of lead vocals

Guitar (acoustic for some, electric for others) [it's his gig]

Bass guitar and 1/3 of lead vocals, BVs [me]

Drummer (electronic kit)
Thanks to a NIMBY neighbour, the venue has has one of those frickin' sound monitors attached to a set of miniature traffic lights. There are few things more effective at taking the fun out of a gig - I have known them to be set off by audience applause, whooping etc (chance would be a fine thing). As well as making sure we are not too loud (e.g. electronic kit - can be turned down just like a real kit can't), my cunning plan is to take my new BF Midget for its first outing, thus ensuring we (or at least I) claim the moral high ground; I simply point at the tiny little speaker, topped by an amp the size of a car radio, and wheedle 'But it can't be too loud - look how little it is!' Well, that's my cunning plan. Bound to work, eh?
23.
Even ignoring the mids, The BF Compact does not have the top end that the OP is ideally looking for.... "If it can do crisp highs it would be a bonus but not essential. "
BF quote the usable upper frequency limit for both the Compact and the Midget as about 4kHz. You would probably want a tweeter for 'crisp highs' - you can order the Midget with one, but not the Compact.
If you're going to buy a barefaced cab(s) I would order it now because you may be in for a long wait (mine took 3 months).
Yup, I ordered mine late September last year, and it is currently in the gentle hands of Fedex
