  1. I realised this has sat forgotten on the headstock of my American Vintage Reissue '63 Precision since I got my 5-string. Part of me thinks I should hang on to it 'just in case' but the toy fund is running alarmingly low, so... This gadget can be installed in minutes with simple tools and no drilling, and allows you to drop-tune instantly. I used it to drop low E to D, but it will go down to C. It comes boxed complete with instructions, fixing screws, and tuner bush (which I didn't need to use - it fitted perfectly into the original Fender bush). This model is designed to fit pre-CBS Fenders and US vintage reissues of the same, with 'reverse' tuning action, and has a Nickel-plated finish. Please check the Hipshot website to be certain which version you need. Yours for £53 £49 delivered in the UK. Last pic below shows it in place on my AVRI Precision - the string has been slackened and you can see the plate has swivelled slightly, it's not installed wonky! Bass not included in sale
  2. Er... that looks like quite an untidy amp to me!
  3. Now back up for sale - please read full description.
  4. No, you don't. Standby during power up allows the heater filaments to warm up the cathodes to operating temperature. No harm will come to them if you don't bother using Standby and go straight to ON, you just won't get any sound for a few seconds. No need to go through standby when turning Off - just switch the amp off.
  5. Mainly looking to generate some cash and free up guitar rack space, but hey, drop me a PM!
  6. I've just found a Roland GK 13-pin cable - happy to include this if it will be useful to the buyer.
  7. It's certainly a looker, but it runs a tube preamp into a Class D power amp.
  8. Casting my mind back over the bass amps I’ve owned, I realise I’ve only had two Class AB solid state heads. I used the same Ashdown combo for 10 years, then discovered Basschat and spent another 10 years chopping and changing! Fwiw the two were an Ampeg SVT3 Pro (not bad, but displaced by my Demeter - as close as I’ll get to a keeper) and my current fave, the EBS HD360 30th Anniversary. So the latter is my nomination.
  9. I'll try to remember that in 2 years when I think about changing these! I am hoping that the magic Elixir coating will keep these strings sounding about the same (fresh but not over-bright) for a good long while.
  10. In case anyone was wondering, I have just fitted a set of Elixir Nanoweb nickel-plated 45-100 strings to my ‘63 RI Precision. So far I am very pleased.
  11. The Godin ACS SA is a beautifully made semi-solid nylon-string electric guitar with synth access. Used acoustically it is loud enough for solo practice. The neck is like that of a regular classical guitar but less chunky, with a nut width of approximately 49mm (1.15/16in). The nylon-string output from the well-balanced piezo pickup under the compensated saddle is via a standard 1/4-inch jack and is controlled by a volume slider and 3-band EQ sliders with switchable mid frequency. Battery power consumption is extremely low. The guitar can also function as a synth controller when connected to a Roland or Axon guitar synth using the included 13-pin cable, through which it also draws power for the synth circuitry. The fourth slider controls synth volume, and the two push-buttons correspond to S1 and S2 in the Roland system. I used to have a guitar synth, and this guitar tracks far better than any add-on GK pickup I have used. If you don't want to use the synth function you can safely forget about it though! It is currently strung with D'Addario Pro-Arté hard-tension strings. This does not make the guitar 'harder' to play - on the contrary, you can dig in more (especially with a plectrum) without causing buzzing and tuning issues. They could do with changing, but I am including a fresh set plus a set of Savarez strings as spares. I played this very guitar, with a plectrum, on this demo: Don't Speak solo Comes with thickly padded Tribal Planet gig bag (with neck support), instructions, correct Allen key for the truss rod, and Schaller strap locks to match the strap buttons on the guitar. There are a few minor scuffs and scratches, otherwise the photos give a good indication of the guitar's overall condition. The dots in the close-up pic of the bridge are tiny raindrops btw! Price is £625 £575 £525 collected from Swindon, Wiltshire. I can't offer courier delivery as I don't have a hard case so as to be able to insure against damage. However, I may be able to deliver to your home or workplace in person for a contribution towards my diesel costs - PM me with your location if you want to discuss this option. No trades thanks.
  12. Almost free now at a frankly silly £170 delivered.
  13. In one of my regular bands I am at about the same playing level as the lead guitarist, and I know all the guitar parts. The advantage of that is that when he can’t make a gig, I move onto guitar and we get a dep bass player - easier to find, and less ‘exposed’ if he drops a clanger. In the other band the lead guitarist is a good way ahead of me in technical ability, which means I have to work very hard to fill his shoes (but have only had to do so once). I haven’t heard either of them play bass, so can’t comment on that aspect.
  14. The amp was built on Tyneside, so YI200 translates as 'Why aye' 200 - in other words, OH YES!
  15. @basskit_case I have a Logik L32SBT17 sound bar that you can have FOC. It's quite small and neat and comes with all the leads and a remote control. It works fine with line-in and Bluetooth but the connection over digital coax is flakey. When I opened a return with Currys they refunded me and told me to just keep it, so it owes me nothing. To use it with the Helix Stomp you would need a Y-lead with a stereo mini jack at one end and a couple of 1/4-in jacks at the other. EDIT: I think a stereo 1/4-in to stereo mini jack would also work.
  16. Fairport Convention’s ‘In Real Time’ album was recorded ‘live’ in the studio. And yet when you listen to it you can almost feel the outdoors on a summer evening as depicted by the album cover.
  17. I have a Gibson CR8 (wasn’t stupidly expensive). I would describe it as lightly aged rather than relic’d.
  18. That's very clever choreography: bouncing up and down for the straight-1/8ths section, swinging from side to side during the syncopated section. Also noted that the bass player in the video is using a plectrum, whereas I've always played this fingerstyle with a fair bit of attack, near the bridge. I do love that song!
  19. No reply from EBS (boo!) but I’m pleased to say the issue has not come back. Today I tried my ‘73 P through the amp for the first time, playing along to a Proclaimers album. The sound seemed a bit bass-light so I engaged the Character switch and BOOM there it was, the perfect P sound, fat and growly with top end on tap from the bass’s own tone control. Normally I eschew (bless you) these switches but for that bass it’s perfect. Looking forward to my Bowie tribute rehearsal this Thursday...
