1. You can get blanking caps in various sizes from electronics suppliers like Maplin, who call them 'hole plug grommets':
2. Sorry but that's not what a P should look like in my book*. *JapanAxe's Big Book of Precision Basses
3. Although I don't favour the PJ concept, that's a very attractive bass. Can't wait to see the relic!
4. Learning material for bands has led me to discover a lot of great music that I may not otherwise have heard, so I have ended up with less of a disconnect than when I started!
5. Quite so. It's a shame bass cab manufacturers don't give you 30 days to try their products on a few gigs to see whether you like them. Oh, wait...
6.
Ernie Ball Cobalts are quite round wound sounding.
In fact too much so for my liking!
7.
I'm not sure I'd want -2dB at 30Hz without some sort or protection!
8. Bruno Mars - cheesey? Ah well, one man's cheese is another man's cracker...
9.
You could start by looking at the gear Mike Dirnt uses. His cabs appear to mostly be 410 an 610. http://equipboard.com/pros/mike-dirnt
I don't expect Mike Dirnt has to carry his cabs up the back stairs of a social club, or through a crowd of drunken punters and past a taxi rank to where his hatchback is parked on double yellow lines with the hazards on. Just sayin'
10.
Best of Dave's World of Fun Stuff (Funny Moments), also worth a watch if you've not seen it.... LOL
That gave me some LOLs, ROFLs, and LMAOs
11. I had the later 'Pro' version, which was excellent - these are reputed to be even better! GLWTS
12.
The CTM-15 is an all-valve job though... could still be quite hefty!
Don't forget to fetch your coat...
13. Ross sent me a broken tuner to have a go at fixing, wouldn't even take postage money!
14. I'd be tempted to keep the head and run it through a more efficient cab, and just sell the original cab for whatever I could get for it.
15. Subscribed (albeit late to the party).
16. I've put this in my calendar - unlikely to get a gig on a Sunday!
17. I was a long-term Ashdown user until about 5 years ago, when I made the switch to Barefaced cabs and (mainly) light-weight Class D heads. I have considered trying an Ashdown head with my BF cabs, but I don't really care for the EQ arrangement - I prefer 3 or 4 tone controls at most. I suggest you pick up a used head in the BC Market Place - try it, and if you don't like it, move it on at little or no net cost.
18. On Friday night I was playing a pub with a rock covers trio. We had just gone back on after the break when a lady of a certain age approached the stage area and asked, ‘Are you the band?’ I swiftly replied, ‘No, we’re painters and decorators’.
19. I don't have virtuoso technical ability, but as a semi-pro I get dep gigs because I (1) can hold down a groove; (2) play for the the songs; and (3) turn up on time. I expect this experience would hold equally true in the fully pro world.
20.
Another alternative is to use online mastering - I have had excellent results from here: https://ariamastering.com but as in standard mastering, the better the mix the better the master.
I ran a track through LANDR with good results but you can only do 2 per month FOC, you have to pay for any more than that.
