1. Thanks all, I will give some of those a try.
2. To me, tort only looks good against white. I've gone for gold based on this MIM currently in Bass Direct:
3.
If 2TSB is non-negotiable then ignore this. There is 50s MIM P in black at Bass Direct for £600; it's been there for a while so a better deal may be available: http://www.bassdirec...0s_Special.html
Oooh! Tempted myself...
4. I enjoy a bit of home recording, normally short demos that I put on my website*, but I have never got to grips with mastering and I'm wondering where to start. Can anyone recommend any free or inexpensive plugins that I can try - multi-band compressors, clever EQs etc? I am using Reaper. Cheers *See link below - if you want to hear some of my un-mastered efforts, go to the 'Guitar' and 'Bass' pages.
5. Got any hen's teeth? Or rocking horse poo? GLWTS!
6. Tim if you have an issue like this again, drop me a PM via BC or FB. I have a good stock of spares in my bits box, which has been running since 1978, so there would be a fair chance of me having a suitable part. Also comes with tea/coffee, chocolate biscuits, and the opportunity to try out kit!
7. The circuit is electrically identical. If you're interested in gaining an understanding of how this all works, take a look here: https://www.hometoys.com/content.php?url=/htinews/feb04/articles/polk/impedence.htm
8. Nobody has yet mentioned the 'sh!t sandwich' approach to turning someone down. Example: Bread (good): You certainly have your playing chops together Filling (sh!t): But I don't think you are the right fit for this band Bread (more good): With your ability and enthusiasm it shouldn't be long before you find the right band
9. All the amp head 'sees' is the combined impedance. Any empty extra sockets make no difference.
10. By daisy-chaining the cabs you are connecting them in parallel. The cabs have the same impedance, so each cab gets half the power from the head. Each speaker in the 2-speaker cab will get 1/4 of the available power.
11. I think the Class D module is beyond many repairers to fix. But it's not digital
12. Just bear in mind the 12AY7 is slightly lower in gain than the 12AX7. My preferred valve supplier is Hot Rox UK - they are also keenly priced for FX pedals (and they carry a huge stock).
13.
Any thoughts about the Bugera Veyron M.? its a great looking amp and 2000w. !!. And bloody cheap. Whats the catch.
It's not 2000W RMS - probably more like 500. There have been various threads about it.
14.
It's not so much the sound, it's the way the guitar makes you play it.
Ah, ok.
15.
Struggling to see the compression driver!
... or the level control. Spec for a slightly different model?
16. As the aforementioned previous owner of this bass, I can vouch for its wondrousness and Pinball's standing as a gentleman.
17. Also the sound of a Les Paul is usually too fat for playing funk rhythm without some judicious sonic sculpting. Of course there will always be exceptions, as I am sure we will learn further down this thread...
18. None more black! Apart from the VU meters, which glow like the eyes of Satan...
19.
Still at a complete loss as to who needs a head this small, sacrificing so much flexibility and power and relatively speaking not so much cost. Majority of Class D heads will fit in your gigbag and weigh very little, so why go this small?
Maybe to break the back pocket barrier? But yes I agree, e.g. whilst my Nano Mark is almost twice the size of the Elf, it still fits in the front pocket of my gig bag, delivers 50% more power, and has a Speakon socket. I can't really criticise the Elf though, as I haven't tried one - I might love it!
20. At the risk of stating the obvious, having to add other gadgets to make the Elf sound as you wish it should, kind of defeats the object. I'm sure many would relish the prospect of a larger lightweight TE Class D head with a full TE feature set - compressor, pre-shape, graphic - and maybe a 500W output.
21. The Midget is designed to work best with the Compact or with another Midget. However, in the current market, even a used BF cab is likely to set you back a lot more money than a used TE cab.
22. Emmett bought an amp from me. He paid promptly and let me know as soon as it arrived.
23. Fortunately you can still get 60/40 solder (60% tin, 40% lead) which melts at a lower temperature than the modern [s]sh!t[/s] stuff.
