1. Nobody has yet mentioned the 'sh!t sandwich' approach to turning someone down. Example: Bread (good): You certainly have your playing chops together Filling (sh!t): But I don't think you are the right fit for this band Bread (more good): With your ability and enthusiasm it shouldn't be long before you find the right band
2. All the amp head 'sees' is the combined impedance. Any empty extra sockets make no difference.
3. By daisy-chaining the cabs you are connecting them in parallel. The cabs have the same impedance, so each cab gets half the power from the head. Each speaker in the 2-speaker cab will get 1/4 of the available power.
4. I think the Class D module is beyond many repairers to fix. But it's not digital
5. Just bear in mind the 12AY7 is slightly lower in gain than the 12AX7. My preferred valve supplier is Hot Rox UK - they are also keenly priced for FX pedals (and they carry a huge stock).
6.
Any thoughts about the Bugera Veyron M.? its a great looking amp and 2000w. !!. And bloody cheap. Whats the catch.
It's not 2000W RMS - probably more like 500. There have been various threads about it.
7.
It's not so much the sound, it's the way the guitar makes you play it.
Ah, ok.
8.
Struggling to see the compression driver!
... or the level control. Spec for a slightly different model?
9. As the aforementioned previous owner of this bass, I can vouch for its wondrousness and Pinball's standing as a gentleman.
10. Also the sound of a Les Paul is usually too fat for playing funk rhythm without some judicious sonic sculpting. Of course there will always be exceptions, as I am sure we will learn further down this thread...
11. None more black! Apart from the VU meters, which glow like the eyes of Satan...
12.
Still at a complete loss as to who needs a head this small, sacrificing so much flexibility and power and relatively speaking not so much cost. Majority of Class D heads will fit in your gigbag and weigh very little, so why go this small?
Maybe to break the back pocket barrier? But yes I agree, e.g. whilst my Nano Mark is almost twice the size of the Elf, it still fits in the front pocket of my gig bag, delivers 50% more power, and has a Speakon socket. I can't really criticise the Elf though, as I haven't tried one - I might love it!
13. At the risk of stating the obvious, having to add other gadgets to make the Elf sound as you wish it should, kind of defeats the object. I'm sure many would relish the prospect of a larger lightweight TE Class D head with a full TE feature set - compressor, pre-shape, graphic - and maybe a 500W output.
14. The Midget is designed to work best with the Compact or with another Midget. However, in the current market, even a used BF cab is likely to set you back a lot more money than a used TE cab.
15. Emmett bought an amp from me. He paid promptly and let me know as soon as it arrived.
16. Fortunately you can still get 60/40 solder (60% tin, 40% lead) which melts at a lower temperature than the modern [s]sh!t[/s] stuff.
17. The guitarist in my country band brought his new Helix LT to our gig last Saturday and ran it into his Fender Deville in place of the ancient Boss Multi-FX he had been using. He said he had initially set it up to duplicate the effects he normally uses, but the difference in clarity of sound was immediately noticeable. You could hear the quality, as it were.
18.
Mullard 12AXY
Typo for 12AX7?
19. You really can't go wrong with one of these, especially at the price.
20. SOLD pending the usual.
21. I recently acquired a Nano Mark 300 from a fellow BC-er, but I have held off the traditional 'NAD' thread until I could try it properly, not just at home. It's pretty tiny - about 20cm square and 5cm tall. Gain, Master Volume, and 4-band EQ is plenty for me. Everything I need and not much that I don't. At home it sounds a bit 'rude' on its own, at least until I boost the lows and lo-mid and cut the hi-mid. Blends nicely when playing to a recording. Real life test no.1 - recording pre-amp - with tone controls engaged but set flat, sounds exactly like the DI'd bass only louder, i.e. the preamp doesn't colour the sound. Real life test no.2 - big band rehearsal, 73 Precision via BF Midget - just perfect, sounds exactly as a bass guitar should in that context. If only my sight reading could keep up... Real life test no.3 - country gig, 73 Precision via BF Compact. For this I perched the Nano on top of my Demeter head, used the Demeter for 1st and 3rd sets, Nano for the 2nd, with volume and tone matched as well as I could - see pics below. I haven't gigged with so few watts (Nano produces 150W into 8ohm) for many years, but I can report that the Nano puts out enough power to fill a large hall without PA support, even allowing for a dep drummer who hits harder than our regular bod. It sounds quite big and fat. When I went back to the Demeter I noticed how much more touch sensitive and punchy it was - not surprising considering the price differential! Anyway the Nano has been promoted to spare amp, and the previous holder of that position is going up for sale.

22. I am posting this before I change my mind as I can't justify having two spare amp heads! Most Basschatters will be familiar with the Genz Benz Streamliner 900, a 3kg bass head rated at 900W into 4ohm (500W into 8ohm), which somehow manages to be light weight (3kg) whilst still feeling chunky and solid. I have yet to come across a situation where the amp has not been loud enough. If you are not familiar with the Streamliner 900, it combines an all-valve pre-amp featuring control over a choice of 3 mid-range frequencies (similar to the Ampeg approach) with a 900W Class D power stage. The valves run from a proper 300volt DC supply. It is currently fitted with three JJ ECC83S valves (better known in the UK as 12AX7's) for quality and reliability. Take a look at the photo of the rear panel for an idea of the amp's connectivity. Here's a link to the manual. You might also find useful the Basschat user reviews (including my own!), this thread on the tone controls, and this video from Ed Friedland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-27szg61bw&t=529s The amp comes boxed with its manual. I have never had an issue with the blue LEDs. There are some scratches and light marking on the casing, and a couple of small but deep chunks out of the alloy back pane; next to the DI output. Full disclosure: a couple of times I have heard a low-level buzz through the connected speaker, but this disappeared when I gave the casing a sharp tap (this is a standard TV maintenance technique from back in the day!) I am looking for £365 which includes tracked insured delivery to mainland Britain. No trades thanks.
23. In my country band, the drummer comes up with loads of suggestions, 90% of which are Merle Haggard numbers. The the rest of us make other suggestions in the hope of watering down the Merle Haggard content. Then we have a rehearsal and end up playing some of the numbers live, and about a third of them fall by the wayside after a few gigs. The process is repeated every six months.
24. Someone on here sold one of those to someone else on here, who brought it to a Bass Bash. I had a go on it - it weighed almost nothing.
