1. Well that solves my dilemma!
2. Please note that I will not be pandering to minority interests by adding random extra reply options. Except one.
3.
Ever tried the original Lee Sklar settings? They ought to sound too bright but actually work in a live gig setting
According to Talkbass, they would be: -Bass(120) 12:00 -Mid 1:00 -Treb(4K) 3:00 -Pres(4K) 2:00 In short, no I haven't. I usually have: -Dark -Bass(60) 12:00 -Mid 2:00 -Treb(2K) 10:00 -Pres(4K) 10:00 My BF cabs don't give much above 4kHz anyway!
4. By far the best recorded bass guitar sound I have achieved was through the preamp of my Demeter head, which is almost identical to the 201 pre (the head has a 'Dark' option in addition to 'Bright'). Consequently I find myself somewhat conflicted - do I spend out a wedge just to have this permanently in my home studio rack, when for the sake of 5 minutes I could dig the head out of my gear cupboard? First world problem or what!
5. Ooh! Ah! Cantona!
6. I've been using Barefaced cabs for the last 5 years, having rocked an Ashdown rig for the preceding 10 years. My main motivation for the switch was the reduced weight, but I've been pretty happy with my Compact and Midget, used separately or together - a big improvement on the ABMs! A recent online conversation with a well-respected BC member has caused me to wonder whether I should make a change in the cab department. My sensible self wants to lurk for cab bargains in the BC marketplace (I can always move them on if I end up hating them); the impulsive me wants to throw caution to the winds and order a £1,000 4-ohm cab. So if you are a former BF user, please take my pitiful poll. Notes 1. This is not an invitation to indulge in BF-hating. 2. If you have never gigged a BF cab, you should probably move along to another thread. 3. You are wasting your time recommending any cab with a tweeter in it. Go!
7. Write out the arrangements and place them in front of each player. On music stands. I'll get me coat...
8. Place the largest band member horizontaly and stack the remainder on top in decreasing order of size. Oh, wait...

10. There is one, I think it's called 'The Internet'.
11. Bought a power supply from Sean, it was swiftly despatched and arrived well packed and in excellent condition
12. I'm puzzled by Apple's business model for iTunes. Each new version is more buggy and less intuitive than the one before. I am a long time Mac user, and I don't know of any software that is more sh!t than iTunes.
13. Precision > Demeter head > BF cabs(s) For skinny-string I have 3 different pedalboards (only use 1 at once), but I like my bass to sound like a bass, specifically a Precision. I also live in a cave and wear animal skins.
14. I had the Korean version. It was definitely passive (VVT) but I can't speak for the US version.
15.
Nope - I use flats!

Same applies for me when I stick new flats on
GET OUT!

My latest acquisition. I went out looking for a Les Paul Junior, and came back with this Palir Titan. In the shop (World Guitars, Stonehouse) it was the one I couldn't put down, which is always a good sign - it hasn't disappointed since I brought it home.
18. Using a signal generator on my iPad, my ears can detect up to 12kHz (left) and 10kHz (right). But when I listen to music on my rather good stereo (Kenwood amp, Mission speakers) I can't tell that here's anything missing, so I guess the brain adapts pretty effectively. I've been using hearing protection when performing/rehearsing for quite a few years now, but I obviously didn't start soon enough!
19. Just been listening to 1996 re-master of Deep Purple's album Fireball, and inside are 3 pics of Roger Glover toting a Mustang. Here's one: Took mine out on a blues gig on Saturday and it worked really well, especially as stage room was very limited!
20. I think anything that broadens your musicianship is going to be good for your playing.
21. My balls are different sizes - would that qualify? Obviously I'm referring to my football and my tennis ball.
22. When I was in the market for a serious bass amp (2000, give or take) I tried a Trace 2x10 combo, probably with a 7-band graphic. I could not get rid of the over-bright sound, or dial in any warmth. Went to the next shop and tried an Ashdown ABM500 2x10 combo, and there it was. I ended up buying the 1x15 version, and gigged that for at least 10 years. (I didn't become dissatisfied with the Ashdown until I bought a TC450 head pretty much on a whim, and realised how much the Ashdown had been masking the funky mids that I could suddenly hear.)
