1.
An improvement, but only because the original's a candidate for most over-rated song of the 21st century.
Each to his own - I had it down as one of the best songs Prince never wrote. I liked it so much I bought the download, but I have to admit my listening pleasure has diminished somewhat with playing it so many times on gigs! (Likewise Dakota, Sex On Fire, Valerie, Mr Brightside...)
2. I enjoyed that very much. I like a cover that takes a song somewhere different.
3. Tony bought a DAW from me, and the way he dealt with payment was exemplary. UPS seem to have used a numpty agency driver, but Tony encouraged me in my efforts to contact them and helped by speaking to them himself, and between us we got delivery sorted. He even sent a picture of the parcel to reassure me that it had arrived undamaged. I would have no hesitation in dealing with Tony as buyer or seller.
4.
Flats for me too. Are flats the bass equivalent, in trendiness terms, of sporting a big beard?
Absolutely not!
5. Isabelle bought a mic from me, no problems here!
6. Cheap = crap Best quality/price ratio is our very own OBBM, aka RockWire cables.
7.
In this song, I can play some of the 12-string guitar part on the bass ...
Huh?
8. Index. But there are times when it makes sense to break that rule...
9. WITHDRAWN - just realised I can run a channel of this into my Cali76 to make a killer vocal channel strip for recording!
10. I've bought slightly-used flats to see whether I like them, and sold flats that I bought new and found I didn't like. It's a cost-effective way of trying different types, and cuts down on waste of valuable metals.
11. Come on folks, standalone DAW value-for-money doesn't come any better than this! Collection/meet-up Swindon or Oxford areas.
12. I think there's only Zoom still making them, but even their R16 doubles as a controller for your software DAW.
13. Bass, backing vocals, PA, website. The drummer sorts the gigs.
14.
Just found this 'au contraire' article. http://menga.net/adv...ale-bass-guitar
I read that article, and it contains a very obvious non sequitur: '... when you string up a short scale set that was originally meant for long scale, the balance goes completely out, resulting in overtones.' The last statement does not follow from the first. Neither does it accord with my experience of using Chromes on short-scales. So don't panic!
15. I have a pair of Beyer DT150 'phones. They are great for recording with a sensitive mic as they provide excellent acoustic isolation, but too tiring and bass-heavy for other uses. My go-to 'phones are the Sennheiser HD201 - so cheap I got 2 pairs, comfy and quite well balanced. I think I would always want to check a mix through speakers though.
16. New deal on the table: £100 cash on collection, includes free SCSI bay etc. OR £110 delivered to mainland UK.
17. Wouldn't bother me, but that's just me.
