I listened to the whole of the first number, not least because it is very listenable! I wondered how much the tapping technique on the guitars 'drove' the kind of music they produce, rather than being a way to reproduce the music in the musicians' heads (although the same question can just as well be asked of 'conventional' guitar technique).

I saw them live in a pub in Durham in 1980 when I was a student. They were a guitar/bass/drums 3-piece then with very quirky original songs.

Is there a cash equivalent?

I don't think you'll find too many people to disagree with you here!

Measurements confirm that the HB2 tuner would be a direct replacement for mine, so BT2 Xtender it is!

[/quote] +1 to KiOgon for wiring looms. A friend was round trying out my basses, and when he played the one with a KiOgon control set in it, he remarked on the smoothness of its operation. Plus they are easy to install and swap around.

The Boss LS2 has attracted criticism for its lack of transparency. I don't expect the DOD Meatbox's buffer is much to write home abut either!

I play regularly in a country band. I have identified 7 approaches to use in country numbers: 1. Root and 5th 2. Pop 3. 1&2 combined 4. Latin style (syncopated) 5. Boogie (6th and 7th arpeggios) 6. Walking 7. 'Written' i.e. a part specific to the song - more prevalent in modern country and Americana. For 1-6, once you know the approach and the key you are sorted.

If you like playing live but hate band politics, put yourself out there as a hired gun.

Personally I always play straight into the amp. It really depends on how badly you want your fx sounds. EDIT: I did use pedals once, no great epiphany when I ditched them, just less setup hassle.

Thanks chaps, will take some measurements and look again. Found these for the standard tuners sold in sets with corresponding extenders (eg BT2 compatible with HB2 tuners):

The other day I ordered a Hipshot BT10 D-tuner for my 2004/5 CIJ Precision, based on Hipshot's own [url="https://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=319"]website[/url] saying: '"D" tune your Japanese made Fender with our BT10 Xtender key' and 'Retrofit your Japanese made Fender for drop tuning with our BT10 Xtender key'. When it arrived, it quickly became apparent it was never going to be right for that bass: screw holes did not align, key is way shorter than the original, post is too small in diameter for existing ferrule, replacement ferrule is too small for existing headstock hole - plus it just looked all wrong. I was going to return it for a refund, until I checked my newly acquired MIJ FSR Mustang [NBD post to follow], and found it was a perfect fit so on it went - brilliant! I still want a D-Tuner for my CIJ Precision, which is a 57 RI with non-reverse long-key tuners. I have narrowed it down to 2 possibles from Hipshot's range: [indent=1]BT2 - fits '67-82 Fenders and reissues, plus Geddy Lee Jazz (which is made in Japan)[/indent] [indent=1]BT7 - just says Fender[/indent] Both say they fit 11/16in headstock holes (haven't measured mine), and are non-reverse. They also seem to be short-key, even allowing for the fact the Bass Xtenders are around 4mm shorter than the keys they replace. Has anyone fitted a Hipshot Xtender to their CIJ Precision or Jazz? If so, which one? Thanks in advance to the Basschat Posse...

This was me rather than the band, but I always like to tag Teddy Bears' Picnic onto the end of minor key rock/indie numbers.

Depends. If it's a reading job, it isn't a good use of my valuable time to learn the material, but it helps to be familiar with it. In my country band, we often take the song round again if people are up dancing, but I know how each section goes, and how to link them. And for depping in other bands, I may know how the original recording go, but I frequently have to adapt to a different song structure, or even the wrong chords!
