1.
Even having one P with a phenomenal sound, wouldn't it be great if you get another, with a different phenomenal sound? Never mind the fact I've got 4 other perfectly great basses...
This! I have 3 Precisions and a Mustang (think short-scale P!), each with a different phenomenal sound (to me), and I still find myself hankering after more Ps.
2. I had a Classic 450 - my introduction to the world of Class D - and loved the Spectracomp and Tubetone. The 4-band EQ was well-voiced, but the Classic was somewhat limited in the treble department.
3. This does nothing to improve my view of promoters!
4. Slightly updated:
5. I've had a couple of things from their main competitor, Cash Generator - a drum machine by post on eBay, and an audio interface from their local branch. In both cases I got about 10% off the asking price, one by making a 'best offer', the other by pulling out cash. So yes, definitely bargains to be had.
6. The Attitude looks way more prog-tastic than my Faded Sonic Blue Precision: Personally I take whichever of my basses sounds best for the gig. I've never been asked to take a particular one on the basis of looks alone!
7. There have been similar threads before along the lines of 'should I take a spare bass to my gigs?' As for me, usually just the one bass.
8. 9. There's always this:
10. The position of your volume control means little on its own. In a not-especially-loud country band, it is normal for me to have the volume of my Demeter at 11 or 12 o'clock. There is extra volume available if I want it, and/or I can add a second cab. Or I can turn down!
11. Won't the pedalboard just roll around the stage when you tread on a pedal?
12.
No apology necessary. I could still be quite wrong, of course. We really need a Bowie nerd to chime in...
I'm a Bowie nerd and I own a Mustang, but I feel I've rather blown my cred on this one...
13.
Ah, don't be a wet blanket. You know how we like to endlessly blather on about 'tone', only to make a sound like a badger farting in a biscuit tin...
Farting badger? Biscuit tin? How the hell did you find out!
14. Before everyone gets too excited, the OP will be doing this on a gig. Unless the sound is wildly inappropriate (say mega-scooped active Jazz), will anyone really notice in the live mix?
15. Great little amps (although not everyone's cuppa), to me it sounds best when you're getting to the end of the valves' clean range without the sound actually becoming obviously distorted.
16. The only bass sale I regret at all was my CIJ '62 RI Precision in Fiesta Red. I bought a Sandberg VM4 and suddenly the P seemed superfluous. There is a sort of happy ending though, as I now have a CIJ '57 RI P in CAR/anodised, and have done the upgrades on it that I should really have done on the Fiesta one!
17. Very nice! I have a 1973 with maple fretboard, and a faded sonic blue '63 reissue, and this combines the best of both!
18. On a dep gig: watch the singer, listen to the drummer.
19. One word: market forces.
20. Something for the weekend?
21. *counts pennies, shakes head, sighs*
22. Yep, handing these over to a BC member this Saturday for purposes which I cannot as yet disclose.
23. I had the 5-string version (L1505) and it was a cracking bass! GLWTS
24. Snaffled for a raffle - possibly... Watch this space!
