1. What bass were you playing before the Jazz?
2. Why not go with Chromes to start with? I have them on my 3 Precisions, and they all sound different.
3. The 1-finger-per fret approach comes from the skinny-string guitar technique known as position playing, where it works fine. It transfers ok above about the 5th fret on the bass, but if you apply it rigidly nearer the headstock you will find it very uncomfortable. Here's what Scott Devine says about it:
4. Looks like I won't be along today after all. Apologies to anyone who was hoping to get their valves tested! Graeme
5.
It looks like the silhouette of a dancing roast chicken. Either that or I need to change these meds.
Nurse - the screens!
6.
Dim question - 900w @4ohm, but only one speaker output - so you couldn't get 2 8 ohm cabs into it? It would need to be one decent rated cab to make use of that power?
There are (and have been) quite a few heads rated roughly 400-500W into 8ohm, 800-900W into 4ohm. As long as one cab has two sockets connected in parallel, then as deanovw says, you can daisy-chain two 8ohm cabs to give a 4ohm load.
7.
I appreciate you probably alreadyp layed the gig now, but what I do is as follows: Create trello board - see this for example https://trello.com/b/yppn6J2D Create cards on board for each song Have a listen to each song on set list, give it a basic easy - hard rating (use labels on trello) Go through each song and write out a chord chart for it, or intersperse it with tab. As you do, move it from first to second column. is the band happy to have ipads on stage? If so then get something like "onsong" or "forscore" where you can transpose charts at a click of a button. I like onsong because you can use use tags to put tab into it as well (although it doesn't transpose tabs) Go through starting with hardest songs and make sure you learn them. Throw some easy ones in too so you feel like you are making progress. It is very depressing if you dont complete some things early on. But generally start with hardest
I do a similar thing but with Excel.
8. @ Funky Dunky, I have done a transcription for 5-string in the original Eb, plus an adaptation for 4 in E. PM me if you want the pdf (standard notation only).
9. The bass I'll never sell? Ain't no such thing...
10. No, really, just Fortunately my oly/tort itch will soon be scratched in a different way, so GLWTS!
11. If your sound guy can't or won't give you the mix you all want, it is time for s new sound guy (or indeed gal).

13. You made me go and look at Jon Shuker's P-bass range
14.
Yeah, but that price is pants when it's $599 in the states and has universal power supply (100-240v). Next person I know heading to the styates might have to make a wee purchase on my behalf...
This is a discussion we've had many times! I now take it for granted that a product costing $X in the US will cost £X in the UK. I do like the concept of those tone controls, nice to hear they work too. @Opticaleye, will you have a chance to gig or rehearse with this soon?
15. Having just fitted a '62 CS pickup to one of my basses, I'm hoping the correct answer to the OP is 'another one'.
16.
Sounds grim to be sure. I think we're lucky in this day and age that all but the most comically inexpensive basses are more often than not, well built, reliable and playable instruments.
Two words: Rickenbackers.
17. I had a Squier Silver Series Jazz that was like this when I bought it. It never got any worse, but it used to rub the skin off my thumb!
18. I have one of these for my main guitar pedal board - room for loads of m pedals plus the power supply tucks away underneath.
19. It's rare to see a 3-pickup bass. Godin brought one out a few years ago but I have never got my mitts on one.
20. I have done Lyneham, Brize Norton, and Cirencedter. At Brize we were booked by someone who had seen the band at a pub. A couple of random points: (1) The band is a noise in the corner while the audience gat hammered and cop off with that night's shag; (2) You need to have photo ID and send vehicle details in advance so that the guard house can be notified. Allow extra time for the faffage involved.
