1.
String choice is SO important and can radically change the sound and playability of a bass. I think they get overlooked sometimes.

Agreed 100%. Decent strings can bring in so much character, one of the most important components in making the sound
And a relatively cheap and fully reversible mod.
2. I take the bass that I think will be the best fit for the gig. They're all Precisions with flats anyway, but they do sound very different from each other.
3. My guitar pedal board has been through endless iterations, but I've been pedal-free* on bass for about 8 years. *assuming a tuner doesn't count
4. I quite like the look, and it's my kind of car (an estate!), but I wouldn't buy it. 'will also go side ways if you want it to' - no thanks!
5.
There's a little know guy called Nudie Cohen: don't suppose anyone will wear his creations?
I wish! Nope, eBay and charity shops.
6. Having just snagged another Origin Effects compressor, this little beauty is now surplus to requirements. It is basically a Ross/Dynacomp clone with the addition of a very handy blend knob which allows you to mix your peaky, bottom-rich uncompressed bass sound with the squishy mid-focussed compressed signal. Also works great on skinny-string guitar. Despite its handy space-saving proportions, it will run from a PP3 battery or standard Boss-type power supply (neither included). Rather than reproduce all the bumf, here are some handy links: - Xotic Effects web page - Ovnilabs review - BC thread The pedal is in excellent condition and comes complete with its original box and instructions (you do want to mess with the secret DIP switches, don't you?). There is neatly applied Velcro on the base, but I can supply a set of grippy rubber feet if you prefer. These retail online for around £160, but you can have this one for just [s]£115[/s] £105 delivered in the UK. £95 DELIVERED AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND ONLY
7. Get a used Class D head from BC market place if you don't already have a backup.
8. Just thought I'd mention that although this is a short-scale (30in) bass, it takes medium-scale (32in) strings. This is to allow for the extra string length passing through the body.
9. I'm dismayed that someone has wasted a decent set of D'Addarios on it!
10.
I have Chromes and use a 110 E string and a Hipshot double stop so I can go down to D and B during songs
Same here but just a single stop at D. You do lose some spankiness when you drop from E to D, but it's worth it for being able to stick with 4 strings.
11.
Never got this "ex famous name guitar" nonsense. There's a shop in Chelsea that advertises ordinary instruments that are supposed to have been owned by stars for silly prices. They're still in business, so I assume some fool must buy them.Crazy.
If that's the shop I think you mean, their prices tend to be, er... 'aspirational'!
12.
Due to a slight OCD issue I like even numbers. 20,22,24 are all good.
19 on my Mustang - prime number!
13. I bought a set of leather punches on eBay for a few quid.
14. I have one of these, solid bit of kit. That price is a steal!
15. Although white extension leads are apparently frowned upon in some quarters!
16. Alternatively, let's not define cover band. Then we can all carry on falling out about playing covers, playing for free, being pro etc, because we all have different ideas in our heads as to what we are talking about. Wait... maybe Blue has the right idea after all.
17.
Just for my future reference: UPC/EAN: 609722149648
A few US suppliers have this part number - might be worth working through them to see who has the least ridiculous shipped price.
18. Banzai Music in Germany Trouble is, the €7.95 shipping rather kills it - I ended up buying a load of bits and pieces to make it worthwhile getting a replacement Ibanez pedal battery door
19.
Reasons for not joining a band...? Don't rate the drummer... 3 piece. Don't rate their version of the set. Take any gig because they need the money too much. All pretty much deal breakers..IMO
3-piece? I've had some great times in 3-piece bands, on both bass and guitar (but not at the same time).
20. Anyone got their hands on the WD100 (or is it WB100?) valve head yet?
