1.
I forgot just how good Peggy is. What a player and what a feel
I think my mileage is most definitely varying on this one. The Missus is watching it and it's driving me mental. Someone get that SR505 off him and thrust a Jazz 5 or summat in his hands. Waaaaaay too forward. Aaahh! Thank the Lord! it's finished!
2. Paradoxically, I can only sing and play when one's on the "off" beat. So I'm fine with "Message in a Bottle" and "With or without you"....
3.
nobody asked for an address, or a name. A town, an area is enough. I find it strange, amusing and a little sad at the same time. It must be terrible to live with so much fear of... of I can't imagine what, really.
Nameless fear is the best kind.
4.
Bob
I was going to go for "Gertrude"
5. I knew that Squier supplied Fender's strings, that Leo bought them out and used the name for the "Value" instrument ranges. Didn't know Squier was an ex-pat, though...
6. Excellent! (but I would say that. I have a Vigier, too)
7.
wishface is tBBC in disguise and I claim my free T-shirt!
Surprised that TIM hasn't reared his ugly head yet... Oh! He just did....
8. I have two that are definitely "ahead of the curve", as it were. The Vigier and the Yamaha. Sure I'd recoup (or better) if I sold them on. That said, I paid a good price when I bought them new.
9. Er... Jeff Waters/Annihilator Voivod
10.
Most importantly though, I hope no actual whales were harmed in the manufacture of this bass.
I dunno... Skjold might be a name of Norwegian origin... And then again, it might not....
11. There's nothing I'd like more than to be in a covers band that completely re-arranged the originals. My favoured format would be: EUB (? Electric) Cello Acoustic guitar Drums/ percussion Vocals (multi) I reckon you could take on almost anything and make it work.
12.
Just had a look at the the Transcend roster and there are more than a few people on there who could do with loosing a stone or two... (plus some rather t[s]n[/s]asty 70s porn star 'tashes going on)
Fixed that for you.
13. That's only okay. Some of the "rusted" ones look good because it's obvious that the finish is intentional, and not an attempt a [s]relicing[/s] [s]re-licking[/s] [s]re-liking[/s]..... artificial ageing. Winner? The "Copper" Stingray (5?) that EBMM did. That was nice, whilst still being different.
14. How important is tone? More to you (the player) than to anyone else, with the possible exception of whoever's behind the mixing desk if you're recording. I suppose that it comes down to your motivation and priorities. Do you play for yourself, the song, the band or the audience?
15. I wouldn't get too hung-up on pick-up configurations. Don't get me wrong, P/J is plenty versatile enough, but it's more important that the bass you choose is comfortable to play, plays well and sounds good. How it meets these criteria is less important than the the fact that it does meet these criteria.
16.
^ This. Warwicks with MEC pups have what I would call the classic 'Warwick Sound'. A bit of growl but still quite round. If you associate colour with sound as I do then Warwicks sound blue..............
Seriously? My Fortress MM5 (strung with Elixirs at the mo') is the sonic equivalent of staring at the Sun (if you play it hard) The only thing holding it back is the 9v electrics. 18v (without any extra gain) would be shocking.....
17. Didn't one of Novoselic's basses get him back at some point? I'm sure one KO'd him when he tried to abuse it. Smashing instruments is for utter F***tards. Wanna be cool? Donate it to a school or give it to someone that wants to learn. That is cool.
18.
Cant remember the details, but theres some regulation about the length of mains cable supplied with electrical equipment not being more than 1.5 Metres as its a trip hazard.
It goes something like: "Look, there's plenty enough trip hazards on the stage as it is. Pedal boards, Kick drum mics, instrument cables, monitors, singers. Why should we (the manufacturer) bear the cost of supplying you with a longer mains cable just so you can reach the plug socket behind the bar...."
19.
There is a magazine for bass players?????????
No. There are magazines for bass players... And a couple of good intyweb forums, too.
20. A Dolphin or Infinity are better balanced, and can get fairly close to the Thumb tone...
21. I have 3. And they're all completely different! Considered as a whole (including discontinued models) the range ably demonstrates the established hierarchy of contributory factors to an instrument's tone: (technique) (strings) Pickups/placement Eq/electrics Materials Construction They Do have a family sound of sorts, and I reckon that's down to the MEC pickups and eq (and the fact that no-one else uses them)
22. Hmmm. Much as I (quite) like the Anthrax version of "Got the time", the original is much, much better. Think the Bello solo is good? Graham Maby's playing on the original is simply phenomenal
