1. Could a full-range piezo bridge with a separate (switchable) output work? Or a lightwave + magenetic impementaton?
2.
Ask Joe Satriani.
Or Kerry King, Rob Halford... etc.
3.
'Flat' refers to how a graph would look. Apply controls till the graph comes flat, do same to amp, there's the flat.
Maybe I'm too old or obtuse, but I still don't get it. Mind you, I don't have any of the amps it refers to, so it's a moot point....
4.
hello...? if y that rich buy a fodera or alembic u dumbass. altho i do like old burners. but the rest of em, to clean cut nice guy.
That was probably Ken himself... whilst a little annoyed
5. Hmm. Not sure what to make of the idea. Who's doing the other bits besides bass, and will he be using a fiver with rounds on it?
6. So do they make different bridge components for the broadnecks to facilitate the wider spacing?
7. Mp3 player / Samsung phone >>> Korg Pandora PX4-D >>> Sennheiser HD215 (mk1) Done. Biggest bit is the headphones! Works fine, but when you go back to any kind of amp, the natural room reverb you get from whatever environment you're in comes as a bit of a culture shock. Conversely, the amount of finger/fret noise (etc.) you get through headphones soon teaches you fretting hand discipline!
8.
No wonder we both think it plays like butter - it's YOUR ex-Bongo! :-) unknown (TB forum) -> garythenuke (EBMM forum Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, California) -> unknown -perhaps Strontium Dog (Kevin, somewhere UK) -> Playground_Martyr (BC-er) ->cocco (BC-er) -> Robert Manning (BC-er) -> mikegatward (BC-er) -> cloudburst (BC-er)
Christ! Done the rounds, hasn't it?! Is there any paint left on it?
9. Sorry to be a dissenter, but I'd get someone to sequence it. I could do it very eventually, but I fear couldn'tbebothereditis would cut in first. Maybe I'm just too old, or care too little, but the whole thing already sounds over-processed to my ears. What would a "live" bass sound contribute to that that a synthetic one wouldn't?
10.
If it's a choice between the two Rosewood. Personally I'd be investigating some more interesting alternatives like ebanol or aluminium.
Or Wenge, Ebony, Pau Ferro, etc. etc. I don't know many Luthiers who can knock up fretboards in our favourite non-wood medium... And surely Aluminum [sic] would simply die against nickel or steel roundwounds, frets notwithstanding.
11.
How do you figure where flat is? This program shows what tone knob settings can translate to in an eq chart thing: http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/
Which was not a lot of help at all to a flat-earther like me. MMM pretty graphs... And even if it did make sense, how does one apply that to real-world situations? Just use the flappy cartilaginous bits on the side of your head....
12.
Yep, Warwick and Status aren't likely to get any ground back...their 'cool-ish' time was eons ago. Not saying they are bad basses particuarly but are the most cliched. What I like about Status is the graphite neck but the rest kills all that. IMO, Warwick never recovered from dumbing down the brand with cheap versions.
Someone said of me recently; "Cool waits downstairs talking to Alex's mum whilst it waits for him to wake up so they can go out and play" (actually true!) I guess no-one told them about the Streamer, Infinity, Fortress and Streamline!
13. Sorry?! What is going on here? Someone asks a question, and people can actually be bothered to moan about the question being asked, rather than answer it/ give a relevant opinion? If you can't say something nice/amusing/witty/informative, then why bother? (*off topic excluded ) Have you really got that much time to kill...
14.
Picks can be just as expressive as fingers, horses **** horses and all that.
Quite precisely. Just look at all those rubbish and not-at-all influential plectrum players out there.... My take? If it sounds good, it is good. And I can't use a pick for toffee.... but have no issues with those who can.

Welcome to BC! Still the best forum for Bass. Any issues at all, just ask, and someone here will have the answer......
16. I'd go with the unseasonably high rainfall/humidity being part of the equation, too.
17.
Thanks for all the feedback, I think I will give it go myself then, I had a load of Allen keys but none of them fitted, so thought it must have been specialist tools
If it's American, they'll need to be imperial. The truss rod is either 3/8 or 5/16 (ths of an inch) Can't remember the saddle grub screws, but 1/16 seems right- about 2mm.
18. Just personal preference? On the other hand, the bassist from Snot de-tunes his 4 to C or C#, as do many others in the genre. Why don't they play fives.... Also, it might be worth considering that whilst they play in metal bands, they might play other material too, which needs the low B. They then get to like a certain bass, and just use that for everything?
19. (If you have the choice) It does depend on what genre you're playing, and the pub/locale in question. Thrash Metal in some dive = take a cheapie Sophisticated Jazz Soiree in upmarket wine bar = Roll out the good stuff
20. Jazz Bass? Every home should have one. Like, before you buy a cooker...
21. Sorry about that! What were the strings, and what is the bass? ( I know how you feel,I've re-strung my Warwick Fortress Masterman V with Elixirs (45,65,80,100,125plain) and it's great. The Streamer LX VI is next...)
22. Yes, but I read the thread title, and immediately thought; "And I feel Heavy Metal" "Woohoo" "And I've pins and I've needles..." (Song 2 by Blur for the uninitiated)
23.
Been there and suffered that, don't 'alf hurt, I just carried on but didn't move my left arm as much when playing and definitely no windmills. It got better after a few months thankfully.
My concern is that work (whilst bearable) will slow the healing process.... Thanks to all, (esp musophilr) for the contributions so far. I guess my next step is GP/Physio if there's no sign of improvement in the near future.
24.
Everything on a Stingray is better than a Fender (except the bassist when its in my hands). And 'proper' Rays are string-through so makes no odds.
Except for the "weak" G-string and some with evil dead-spots, that is!
25. Unfortunately I suffered an injury at work. I lift (a lot!) at work. Often several tons over the course of a day. Because of good technique, my back is still fine and I've plenty of core strength. I'm right-handed, and my elbow simply went "Pop" The symptoms seem to echo people's descriptions of "Tennis Elbow" Whilst it's painful/awkward at work, I can work around it without painkillers. With bass-playing, it's seriously hampering my playing as the required inward/upward movement for the correct forearm position to reach the strings is painful to maintain. I've tried lengthening the strap/s, and using different basses and R/H positions but to no avail. I play exclusively fingerstyle, and using a plectrum would probably be excruciating. I refuse to use painkillers, as they only mask the symptoms, and I may be risking further injury/damage by pushing it. Yesterday (day off), I did as little as possible requiring the use of my right arm, and did quite well until I picked my daughter up.... then it went back to square one. Any ideas (besides going lefty)?
