1.
What does John Hall have to say about that design?
What a fine-looking polo shirt? Is the design patented in all territories?
2.
That'll make it something like a GP7 SM 300 7210H then.
Something like that. It's one later than my old 122h smx..
3. I simply couldn't do it. I can't even get down to a 4,5,6 and EUB! If Status made a Streamline 6, I'd have a chance in hell, but I'd still not part with the Vigier, Fortress MM 5 and some of the others...
4. Apart from a brief flirtation with Flugel Horn in my early teens, I avoided all musical instruments. Then my parents broke up when I was about 19. My Dad thought I needed something to concentrate on and asked if I wanted to take up an instrument... To which I replied "Drums" At no point did he say "That's not an instrument!" I think he just said "No!" Guitars just seemed (and still do feel) so small and fiddly, so bass it was. PS Many people my age will have been forced to endure the recorder in their youth. As many instruments have a low-frequency derivative, I googled "bass recorder" Hmmmm. And.... How much?!
5. No such thing as a stupid question! You can use either mode (as determined by the dip switches on the rear panel) BUT- To use it in bridged mode will require you to re-wire the Speakon plug at the amp end of your speaker cable. The manual was available as a pdf from the QSC site. Check that out first, as it details what goes where. Do be aware that whilst most PLXs will go down to 2ohm in stereo, it's a 4ohm minimum in bridged mode. I use mine bridged, it's only a 1202, but gives so much more power and control than my Trace head. Do try out the lf roll-off filters (also on the dip-switch panel) I set mine to 30hz, and my cabinets complained less. Not to mention freeing up some extra power/headroom otherwise wasted on trying to make (most) cabs reproduce frequencies they simply can't. HTH....
6. Damn shame. Another icon has gone... RIP, Jim.
7. Played this (in its original form) at one of the bashes a while ago. Nice bass, as I recall.
8. Mine's a secret. I refuse to tell anyone how much I paid for it as it'll diminish its resale value! Furthermore, I can't put up any pics, as it's rather readily indentifiable!
9. Get thee to the Gallery/Bass Direct/Bass Merchant and try everything there. Don't discount anything until you've tried it. That approach has served me well in the past. Another important factor in 5 strings is how well the B integrates with the other 4 strings. A good B string alone is not enough...
10. I seriously think Fender should return to the American automotive ethic from the 60's and 70's. To wit; Change the model every year, and "include" the model year in the description. For example '69 Chevrolet Camaro SS '02 Fender Jazz S1 And be done with it. Failing that, make the required revisions to make a killer Precision and Jazz, and stick with that recipe.
11.
Also, most teachers learn how to teach and what approaches to use by taking things that their teachers taught them!
By my own admission, I am not a good student, but the (only, so bad was the experience) "teacher" I had was awful. Sure, he could play. Sure, he could read & knew his theory But he was not a good teacher.
12.
Passive balance pots kind of suck.
But not as much as pick-up selector switches! YMMV, though. Perhaps VVT, then, unless you MUST have a master volume for fade-outs or whatever...
13. Have you factored in the fact that Status necks come with blank headstocks? This is to facilitate the fitting of non-standard tuners, string guides, etc. If you're handy with a drill or have a drill-press or similar, then fine, but be warned... If you want the holes cut at the factory, it'll cost extra. Otherwise, go for it. But be sure it's a keeper, as re-sale value is likely to be..... disappointing
14.
probably belongs to the other pronounciation thread but in the olden days before the internet I rang up directory enquiries to get the number for the bass centre. I asked for bass ( as in lace ) which is the only pronouncation and the operator insisted on calling it bass ( as in grass ) , she even told me that my pronounciation was wrong
Peut-etre elle est Francais? They do pronounce it like-ze fish....
15. Well done on abandoning Tab. I've never used any kind of notation - a function of starting to learn before the advent of the intyweb. Nothing I wanted to learn was available in books, etc. I don't write down any notes. I just practice and commit it to memory. If I'm learning for a band scenario, I'd favour a rough recording made during rehearsal over a chord chart. At least then I've something to jam along to to reinforce my memory. It'll certainly improve your ear no end, and that can't be a bad thing.
16.
Got to see bowie myself at glasto in 2000 ,amazing show and seem to remember he had great female bass player as well!
At a guess that would be Gail Ann Dorsey. Certainly not Geezer or JPJ.
17. Y'know, I tried putting some spare Spectraflex Deflex panels in my Trace 2x10. All it did was make it even heavier. From experience, I'm beginning to form the opinion that, given the levels at which we commonly use our equipment, any benefits are so marginal as to be completely eclipsed by other factors. I always thought that threaded rods through the driver mounting holes and right through the back panel of the cab might be good. You'd need to drill out the back panel, and probably use washers either side of the panel, then have washers/nuts behind the baffle. Slide the driver over the rods and secure with nuts. Best part is you can really tighten the nuts securing the driver, without fear of stripping them like woodscrews do. Just an idea I had. Once.
18. Sebaceous oil from the sides of your nose is the answer. Well, it'll help a bit in a pinch when you have to keep on playing.
19.
It's a sound board - the vibration of the string is travels through the bridge and makes it vibrate on the same frequency. Because it has a larger surface area it moves more air, which is why you get a louder acoustic sound and that specific semi-hollowbody sound from the pick-ups Either way, I reckon aesthetically it looks very cool!
Off to guitarchat for you, then!
20. I was considering making the trek (and it is a trek) to bass direct. The danger, of course, is that I will leave not with an EUB, but another electric bass...
21.
It's true that a clean car goes faster!!!
Because it's lighter!
22.
Bastard sinistrals all. Fooking illuminati innit?
I was going to say that I disliked the sinister tone of this thread. Alas, I was beaten to it
