I presume you didn't get my PM yesterday morning then? Oh poo...
Check your Inbox! I put it on hold before I contacted you as I've had some other enquiries, and didn't want any further offers coming in once I'd provisionally accepted yours.. Hope that clarifies matters! Alex.

Don't overlook the Ibanez SR506!! It'll give you some change, too! Otherwise, look to the Yamahas already mentioned... Or see what S/H throws up...

On doit offrir quelquechose en plus de Talkbass!!!

Bienvenue a BassChat! Bassist Professionel?! Bienvenue Encore! Alex

As previously mentioned, any sound changing feature (particularly drive and / or EQ stages) that can't be footswitched Ampeg's SVP Pro is guilty as charged on the Drive part! Not a great fan of the Trace Elliot Pre-Shapes either. Hybrid Valve/SS Pre amp stages where the valve isn't run hard enough to make it sound like more than a muffled version of the SS part of the stage (Trace again!) And from a design stand point- 4x10 combos.. Why? More weight, less flexibility, often compromised cabinet performance (to keep the weight down)

Absolutely everything you can get your hands on! No, really! Considered going second-hand? There's some lovely stuff in the For Sale section, and your money'll go a LOT further...

If it plays good, sounds good and feels good, it IS good. Otherwise, DGAF, and that ain't no progression.
Does it surprise you ?? Are their any Sig models 100% identical to the one the artists play?
Hmmm Hows about the Level 42 30th Anniversary Status King Bass Yamaha Attitude (the original and/or II) Fender Roscoe Beck Fender (Stu Hamm) Urge Gary Willis' GWB Ibanez (though not the cheaper one) Vigier Roger Glover Excess Fodera Yin-Yang (as used by Victor Wooten) Zon Michael Manring Hyperbass The deciding factors in all of the above being either; 1) The bass was good enough in relatively standard trim and was adopted by the artist with few or no changes or 2) The artist and manufacturer collaborated and built a signature model from the ground up- as in the case of the Roscoe Beck and Urge and (not quite) The Yamaha Attitude. All 3 of these basses are nothing short of formidable, as those hereabouts who own them will confirm!
My Ashdowns don't have any feet but I have a pile of Trace rubber feet that I am going to fit before the gig next Friday
Them there are good feet. The old solid lump of rubber with a washer in the middle. Use a nice BIG screw, and they'll never come off. My Trace 1153 has swivel casters on the long side, and feet on the short side. Roll it where you want, up-end it, and off you go. As for amplification, my trick for reducing acoustic feedback is not putting a head on top of cabinets whenever I can. Yep, some of it'll inevitably come via the air, but why directly mechanically couple your (amp) head to the source of the vibration? I generally put mine behind or off to one side, on a chair or beer crate etc.

Can anyone identify this fretbaord wood for me?
Lfalex v1.1 replied to umcoo's topic in Bass Guitars
I think..... It's a phenolic board that's never, ever been cleaned. Kind of like the rest of the bass. -
Make friends with the drummer as soon as possible, then enjoy.
Deffo this. Not for nothing do we have our own bit of the band called "The Rhythm Section"! Also: Be yourself Enjoy Yourself Do any necessary homework/practice before you go- So you're as good as you can be Remember that you are auditioning THEM as much as they are auditioning YOU. Cliched, but true. All the best!
Now that would be a thing...angled body, torzal twist and fan fretted with adjustable body wings like a Spalt. A thing that would look like someone had left it on a car dash in summer.
Yes! But it would have to be a Graphite neck with an Ebony or Pau Ferro fretboard. You know why
Not just hit by the ugly stick - the Ansir bass IS the ugly stick.

What a load of absolute crap. Especially the bit about people with injuries or back strain acquiring some relief. It's all bullshit and he's waffling, trying desperately to justify his monstrosity. That instrument is the John Merrick of the bass world, but without dear John's personality. The fact he thinks it's a "cool look but a functional design" demonstrates he shouldn't be allowed even to design his own f***ing breakfast. It's a disgusting piece of "design" and god help his investors, if he has any. Poor sod. Edited for needless profanity.
Functional design= Steinberger XL2A We then had to wait nearly 30 years for an alternative/better attempt in the form of the Status Streamline. Compact, lightweight, no balance issues and full-on tone/sound/playablility. And you can get LEDs, AND use your old strap, and get colours other than black... You get the idea!

Needs a "Torzal twist" neck, too!

Definitely an Ampeg fan, then! Welcome to BC!
Love my EDB600, been my only bass for the last 11 years and feel no need for anything else as it does everything I need very well. Plus they have lovley slim necks if thats your thing. I still have no idea what luthite is though!!
Check it out on Wikipedia. I helped edit that page!
And the one on the Streamline......it's there but never need to use it
Yep. I have one of these, too. Don't expect to be adjusting that either. I think it's more to allow relief adjustment than for stability in all-graphite necks...

Both the Ibanez I have owned were great players. I just sold my SRX700 as it wasn't getting used much. It was my main gigging bass for ages, and never let me down. That said, I took care of it, so it should have been okay. Never really got on with the electrics, but the hardware and woodwork were fine. On the flip side, I wish I still had old my EDB600. Bought for a snip at £80, and damaged when I chucked it across the lounge after having worked a (hard) nightshift and then being interrupted 6 times in the space of practising (through headphones) one song by my wife/children. It bounced badly and the Luthite cracked and the control cavity literally fell out. Disgusted (and still fuming) I then finished it with a swift kick to the neck that caused half of the frets to pop out. Pity. It really was a stonking bass. Period. Strung with DR Fatbeams and with a bit of judicious mid-control tweaking, it could deliver some sounds that only my Vigier could better. In short, they're generally good and well made. The good ones are REALLY good (true of many manufacturers) Just look at the number of members that recommend Ibanez to people starting out (or Yamaha or Squier) My main concern in some is the quality of the pick-ups and EQ, which give an aggressive sound that can't readily be smoothed out. The SR 500/505 are well regarded, and almost an industry standard at their price-point. Certainly, they'd be on many people's shortlist. Not so sure about the BTBs and Prestiges. At those sort of prices, the competition is starting to improve dramatically...

What's going on in the (bass) For Sale Forum
Congratulations, you win a weekend for two in February.
Wow! Cool! Thanks. The Mrs will be delighted!
... isn't it just that times are very tough and some people are having to liquidate bass-related assets to raise fund for other things in life which may be more essential right now?
Well at least I won't have to sell my Status and Vigier to pay for a weekend away in February!!!
