That's what onboard EQ and amp EQ are for, plus any effects and the desk itself. The idea of a neutral pickup sound is that it can be manipulated more effectively without necessarily sounding like a "Jazz + EQ" or "Ray + EQ"
-
On a slightly philosophical note (I've no experience with Overwater nor Bartolini) Is it not desirable that a pickup should be as accurate and uncoloured as possible? This leaves the (internal) pre-amp and EQ to do the tone-control aspect, and any subsequent devices get the potential of a really clean sound to work with when needed.

Sounds like "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" now...

Those articles by Heiko Hoepfinger can be quite interesting.

My old- school schaller straplocks squeak and honk if I move around and the bass pivots on them. It's only ever happened on one bass; the Vigier. I reckon it's because it's got brass inserts in the body to stop the screws holding the buttons pulling out. That, or it's the angle the buttons sit at.

Pretty much Ibanez' take on the 'Ray. Really quite good, but marred (IMO) by a slightly clumsy headstock design and the fact that many of them are a bit in the heavy side.

Why so many short scale basses at the moment?
Lfalex v1.1 replied to Greg Edwards69's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm surprised we haven't had a fanned-fret multi-scale SS bass. Something like 26-32", or whatever the maths dictates. Or maybe someone already did and I missed it.. -
Good acquisition, especially at that price. My first was an EDB 600, for which I paid £80. That broke when it fell on the floor (don't drop them. Luthite is brittle. Uh... you DO know that the body is plastic, don't you???) The EDA does have a piezo and one soapbar. The necks are slender, as you know, and the cooling weather can make them go for a bit of a wander! Welcome to the plastic-bodied Ibanez club. (I replaced the busted EDB600 with a 605 for a whopping £150!) Oh... wait for the smell if you leave it in a case for a while. Mine stinks; as though someone has poured white spirit in the case!

Awesome! Hope you enjoy it! PLEASE re-string it properly/tidily, though! 🤣

Colin Moulding (Xtc) Graham Maby (Joe Jackson) Tony Butler (Big Country) - at least he's got a signature model, though.

This I did not need to see. I've been looking for something that can EQ/volume match both halves of my Chapman Stick separately, run it through a different fx loop each and then re-combine the outputs to drive an amp. It would also need a stereo aux in and stereo headphone out.. The Basslab Stepabout looks good, but is loadsamoney and doesn't quite cover everything.

Aguilar DB680+QSC PLX31000, to be sold, then new amp found.
Lfalex v1.1 replied to Stonehenge's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hmm. They're both 2u, right? Are they in a 4u case? If so, have you considered putting them into 2x2u cases for easier handling? I have used all sorts of tricks to shift stuff around. I did half a mile across Camden with a 2x10, 1x15 and head cargo-strapped to a nylon dolly board with my bass on my back. There's got to be a better way than selling such a good pair of amps and effectively "trading down" to (just) a head. Unless 3.1KW really is too much and they really are too heavy! -

Depends why you want to ditch the PLX. I most recently used an Ampeg SVP Pro into a PLX1202 (bridged) Sounded great through my old Trace cabinet/s So much more control than my Trace Head. I'm not sure that many heads can match a decent PA power amp for sheer grunt and cone control. -
I'm intrigued now...

I've seen it written that quilting/flaming/birdseye are caused by the deposition of impurities/other chemicals in the wood during growth. Whilst they're attractive, the said discontinuities react unpredictability to moisture and temperature when compared to the regular areas of timber. I'm not entirely convinced. My SR5 had a smattering of birdseye in the Maple of the neck and that didn't move at all. As a theory, there's a possibility that it might be true, especially if the neck design is a bit marginal with regard to stability.

Definitely an SB700 if one can be had for £500. I should imagine an Ibanez MC 924 would be more than that, but I wouldn't mind one.
-
3 big knobs? Does it have a piezo bridge, or is it a mid- frequency or a passive tone?
-
Good work, a lovely finish and a comprehensive guide. What's not to like? Well done!
-
This. Amp EQ for "room" EQ Instrument EQ to get your tone EQ pedal for those times when you want to change your EQ for given songs/ sections of a song.
-
It's alright. You can always paint necks to overcome any aesthetic misgivings you may have.

It was only about a 20ft round trip. The remote still worked through the glass if the doors were shut. -
Why do bassists seem to be so obsessed with sustain?
Lfalex v1.1 replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
But I'll warrant that you put the kit together properly. Not £950 bass QC "pass", but properly, as many other forum members might also. -

When my previous house was extended, I had the original patio doors left in between the old and new sections of the house. I figured that having the sources and amps in a different room would be a good way to reduce any kind of acoustic feedback. I was right. All I needed to do was drill a hole in the frame of the said patio doors. I chose to do so in the bottom corner beneath the fixed pane. The doors were good but fairly old. Shouldn't be too hard, being box section aluminum right? Wrong.Virtually solid. Solid Steel. I used six drill bits doing it. At least it worked.
