  1. Didn't even have to listen to that to know it was "Dear Prudence", but I don't much rate the Beatles... Ooh, hold on...
  2. Ben Harper's Original is way better, IMO. And I'm not going to bother with what he did to Randy Newman.. Oh, alright, go on then...
  3. Possibly better than the Depeche Mode original? You decide. I rather like it.
  4. Also from Warwick; Streamer Pro M, Fortress Masterman. Doublebuck qualifies, too if HH is your thing. And if HH is your thing, G&L ASAT. Ibanez ATK if someone hasn't mentioned it already.
  5. I wondered about that, but was wary of contaminating the new nail/bed with the glue.
  6. 🤣 Nothing I can afford or actually need! And some of it is somewhat obscure/rare/expensive and I don't even know if I'd like some of it! But for now; 1) Fender Roscoe Beck 5 2) Ibanez EDC 905 or 915 3) Something quasi-custom or very heavily modified that fits the basic remit of a P-bass. But not an actual Precision. 4) MusicMan Bongo 5. H/S, preferably
  7. She also did the "Dirty Harry" soundtrack, too. IIRC, she said working with Lalo Schifrin was really tough as the material was so complex (I guess they were sight-reading it, too.)
  8. Now back at £17.99. Looks like I missed the boat! 🙄
  9. I saw it also, and thought it was kind of expensive. And quite old, too. The newer ones have better bridges and other improvements.
  10. I think most of the infection has actually been dispersed into the (old) nail itself, as that is quite discolored. The new nail beneath is all clear, shiny and growing back neatly, which bodes well. It's just the clumsiness/inconvenience/discomfort factor. Which is as nothing compared to 4000's finger chopping incident!
  11. Exactly how much can I do with the third finger on my left hand? 😂
  12. As per the title, any medical advice would be welcomed! A month or so back I had the mother of all splinters from a pallet board at work. It was in the pinky of my fretting hand. For a couple days thereafter it was very red, sore and hot (infected, then) That passed swiftly, but it's obviously poisoned the bed of that fingernail such that it's well and truly lifting off. There's fresh nail growing beneath, but the old one is still well attached and would be painful to remove (I tried, but it was vomit inducing!) I can tape it down for work, but can't play with it taped. If I fret with it, it bends upwards at 45 degrees and I causes discomfort and ickyness! I reckon I've got another month at least before it grows out naturally. Bass practice is rapidly becoming difficult, and Stick playing is off of the menu altogether. I've tried nail glue and varnish, but neither can hold it down while I'm trying to "hold it down" Any ideas?
  13. One more to check- my SMX developed an issue brought about by the fact that they're modular (inside) by design. The cable that fed the power stage the signal from the pre had worked it's way off- they're only a push fit
  14. LH upright- Is it as "simple" as re-cutting the nut (and perhaps the bridge) and stringing it the other way around?
  15. How often do people on here play fretless? I'm quite sure some do nothing but. I think there's a place for a fretless in most players' collection. I've just never found one I've gelled with yet. I went for the upright electric 5 with "modern" strings on it route instead. How hard is it? As with fretted, it's all about practice. Most of the skills are readily transferable; they are variants of the same basic instrument, after all. I understand your reticence when it comes to shelling out big money on one. I'd go and try a few out when the shops re-open.
  16. Uh... That's not the best idea ever. It can upset the body's natural peacemaking mechanism causing cardiac arrhythmia and, in the worst cases, myocardial infarction.. Multimeters are better.
  17. It is a bit primitive (primal?) looking... If it were still strong enough with the backward tilt, a Yamaha SBV-style headstock would look nice.
  18. Batteries in active basses generally die quite slowly. The first symptoms are usually a reduction in output level or slight distortion on big output peaks. A battery change later, and it's back to normal again. Many folks bulk buy Duracell/Energizer if they have many such basses to power. Rechargeables would seem to be the environmentally sound choice, but they don't hold as much charge as an alkaline battery, nor can they deliver as much peak current. This can leave the instrument sounding compressed and lifeless by comparison. I try to check my batteries for leaks fairly regularly. There's nothing worse than a battery that shares the control cavity with the EQ circuitry leaking all over your expensive electronics.
  19. Interesting, though. I'd never seen it before.
  20. Go for it. If it fails, sand it back and go again!
  21. Does it have the tuner holes already drilled? If not, the world is your oyster... If it isn't drilled, I'd go for something like the 'Ray headstock, as it's shorter and might give marginally better balance. Or really confused everyone and go 2+2 😄
  22. Shame there's only one colour choice, other than that minor gripe, it's all good.
