The topic title did say "confused", so I ran with it ! 🤣

Creative minds and business minds are seldom a happy marriage. The former frequently exploit the latter. The music business (it's called that for a reason) is just another example of this.
-
No-one's ever asked me. I guess there's at least one reason out of a possible four that causes this in each case.
-
Frontman version; How many frontmen does it take to change a lightbulb? One to hold it still and the rest of the world to revolve around them and screw it in... I'll get me coat..
-
Random suggestion; If it has an FX loop, input the signal straight into the FX return socket. That way, you'll bypass any guitar- biased EQ stages; effectively you'd be using it as a power amp. It might deny you any preamp-related distortion, though, but a pre-amp pedal or multi fx might give you that instead. Some amps I've used in this manner (both SS, mind) have given rather good results, and in both cases, the master volume has still worked, too.

It took me long enough to get one! And there's so much to learn.. and selectively remember/forget from guitar or bass playing. The Melody strings are familiar in terms of fingering patterns but alien in that you're likely to be playing it with your right hand. The Bass strings are what you're used to in terms of your left hand, even though they're upside down.. it's the tuning in 5ths that's odd!

Found the mixer PSU... And off we go in 2 channels! Funny how you forget to apply all the good things you've learned along the way.. I'd assumed that the slightly thin sound was my technique. It wasn't (particularly!) Both sides needed a smidge of EQ, and bingo! 🙄😂

I've got Altars of Madness on vinyl from when it was released! The last of theirs I bought was Domination, though. There's nothing wrong with two outfits playing some of the same material, as long as it's competently done. On a side note, if you've not already, check out "World Downfall" by Terrorizer- David Vincent, Pete Sandoval, Jesse Pintado & Oscar Garcia. They actually get a bit of a groove on in places, particularly "Fear of Napalm"...

Many thanks for the helpful reply EMG456. I'm already using headphones but in mono. Still ok for now though. I have a mixer and lots of ideas how to use it... All I have to do is find the power supply for it 🙄

I have a mobile app for EQing devices, be they Bluetooth or physically connected. It delivers test tones at 32, 64, 125, 250, 500, 1k, 2k, 4k, 8k and 16k. You adjust the level at each frequency until you just can't hear it- a personal flat response if you like. I ran it through my Trace in-room with the amp EQ off, reproduced the curve the app gave me on the Trace EQ and switched on the EQ.. One of the best bass sounds I've achieved. Not only "flat" but it had compensated for the room's influence and the response of the cabs in that environment. I'd recommend it at home. But I think bandmates and sound engineers would hate you if you did it live/ at rehearsal!

It's the 26 frets on both the Infinity & Thumb added to the way the upper horn and compact body push the neck away from you that make the reach for the 1st fret a long stretch. At least the Infinity sits better on my leg when I'm seated. The Thumb keeps falling off! 🤣

I reckon it's the fact that the two coils go to the two EQ units and then to the pan pot >> volume pot. That's an unusual and separate signal path for each half of the pickup, and that may cause the noise.. Anyway, enough of me! Back to the pretty Warwicks..
-
It's not a quad-coil as far as I know. I thought it's designation was "Twin-Jazz", therefore two single-coils. Mine can be made to buzz on extreme settings under certain conditions. Centering the pan pot eliminates this as they hum-cancel again. I think the same unit is used in 4s and 5s as it's got bladed pole-pieces. It appears in (at least); Infinity, Infinette (?), Dolphin, Streamer pro-M and the Fortress Masterman.. oh and Vampyre

Here you go.. From the left; Volume & pan Bass & Treble (neck) Bass & Treble (bridge) Alas only 9v, though. Tempted to add an extra battery, one for each pre. To give it more headroom and hopefully battery life..

Fortress Masterman V (1997) Those of you that were fazed by the Streamer Pro M controls should look away now! Also, the finish... when I purchased it, the finish was the normal oil stain, which had some scratches and scuffs. I thought they'd polish out... Instead, after much elbow grease, I ended up with what looks like the high gloss finish!

4½ years later... By a virtue of a some good fortune, I now have a 10 string stick from 2003 in very good condition. Sounds great, and I'm beginning to get a bit of a feel for it, but the left/right hand independence is taking time, and my right hand needs to become acquainted with the chord shapes. Another issue is that my approach is that of a bassist. I tend to want to play more complex lines than my skill allows! Watching a lot of players on YouTube reveals that they often underpin their Melody strings with bass chords or single/pedal tones. My inclination is to play a bass line and try to harmonise with that using the Melody strings! Many players (not Tony Levin!) seem to want to be solo Stickists... Some covers I've seen, although extremely competent seem intent on incorporating as many elements of the song as possible; vocal melodies and guitar melodies are common. The tune is instantly recognizable, but it wouldn't work in a band context, as you'd sideline half of the band! I've found it best working with material where there's a lot of space to fill.. solo acoustic guitar, for example. That's when you can really stretch yourself. Any hints and tips anyone has, no matter how minor would be greatly appreciated!

I've only had it a month or so, but I'm making progress of sorts! If you've experience of keys, it'll help. I don't. I'm finding the bass strings being tuned in 5ths the most "unusual" part, though I understand why they're that way (range and ability to play chords vs. 4ths) The other hard part is where does it fit in the music?🤔

I seem to be able to hop to and fro without too much trouble, 4s, 5s and 6s That said, because I swap a lot, I prefer my instruments to be in standard tuning at concert pitch. Drop tuning throws a spanner in the works, as it were. It's when I strap the Chapman Stick on that it gets confusing! ( Really confusing!)

I really like my NS 5 CR. The Low B is well-integrated sound-wise; it sounds like it's meant to be there. I kept finding fretless to be too nasal sounding for my taste, but the EUB has a deeper, more mellow voice. The HazLab preamp in the NS CR is among the best I've used in an electric instrument. The EQ set-points are perfect.

For Sale, my Boss ME 8b multi effects floor unit. In very good condition as it's never been gigged and has only had 1 or 2 rehearsal outings. Haven't used it at home for years, either! It has the added benefit of having a Roland EV-5 expression pedal included, which can be variously assigned to function as a volume pedal, wah pedal, synth controller, pitch bend and ring modulator control IIRC. Effects include Compressor/Enhancer/Defretter Octave OD/Distortion/Fuzz Humanizer/EQ Synth Bass/T wah Chorus/Flanger Delay Reverb Comes with its original PSU and packaging, but I can't find the manual. Fear not! It's available as a PDF from the BOSS website... The only catch is that I don't want to post it, so it's cash on collection from my home address in Chelmsford, Essex. Thanks for looking, Alex.

I will supply a Rockbag padded gig bag. £200 Cash on collection from my home address only, as I won't ship items. Thanks for looking. Alex.
