1. Er.... I might be an exception! Man-cave currently occupied by me, Fender, Warwick & NS CR5. Cased elsewhere: Status Yamaha Vigier Westone Hohner Also owned: Ibanez Ovation OLP Musicman Iceni I wouldn't consider myself that partisan at all. If I'm in the market to buy, I'll try as much as I can get hold of. I don't really care for colours/designs or brand names that much. I'm more concerned about how a bass feels, plays and sounds than which company produced it.
 2.
It does matter since I turned 40. I used to gig alot when I was younger with a 10.5lb Stingray and the weight if it never even crossed my mind. Now I've put together my own custom P-bass using a lightweight body and parts. It weighs in at 8.3lbs and now once again I can just go out and play without it being an issue. Another plus to it all I found is that my lightweight P is the most resonant and growly bass I've ever owned which is the sound I was always chasing really.
I must be lucky. I've just turned 40, and my 14lb (!) Warwick Streamer LX6 still isn't an issue. Good (ish) playing posture and a w-i-d-e strap help, though!
 3.
James Blunt lends himself to limericks better than Mozart.
Well, I thought it was funny... Personally, I like Beethoven. Movies about big soppy dogs? Gotta love 'em. More than that Blunt.... (Searches for rhyme) Bloke.
 4.
John Hall has opened a Spanish factory now??
Nah. Mexican
 5. If you've big money to spend, Vigier necks are lovely. (And thin!)
 6. No lengthy advice. Just this: GTFO (get the **** out, for the uninitiated)
 7. It's on Human Racing, isn't it? I'll have a listen tonight, but I can't slap for toffee! Might be able to offer some insight, though...
 8. I did a mock-up in MDF at home for one of mine once. Just used an old off-cut, and sanded it to roughly match the fretboard radius. Maybe try a DIY one before you splash out?
 9. ^^^^ that's what I thought of first. Must be getting old...
 10. Hold on. Let's just put this in its correct context. I've been playing bass 3 times longer than I've been married...
 11. In all likelihood, the labour tied up in the making of the ramp will be the greatest factor in its eventual cost. Otherwise, I'd guess that in terms of cost, Maple < Wenge < Ebony. But Ebony will come closest to matching the pickup cases, and feels really nice to the touch. (Good idea, I hadn't considered it!) I wonder if it's possible to get the same resin that the pickup housings are made from, and use that?
 12.
I thought what was being found scary was my lack of ability to tell what pickups are good simply by their electrical properties.
Well, almost. It is mildly scary that no-one can begin to determine a pickup's performance from its technical specifications. This gives at least two problematic scenarios that occur irrespective of your electrical engineering background: 1) I've acquired this random black lump of resin/metal/wire. How the hell do I know if it's any good. 2) I want to upgrade my existing pickups. How on earth do I work out where to start when tech specs are all I have to go on, and they don't exactly tell the whole story. Pickups aren't cheap, and it's a minefield out there...
 13. Where do you want it to go? Between the pickups? I'd try to source some Wenge that matches the fretboard. The next question would be: How are you going to fix it to the bass? Does it need to be adjustable- if so, it'll likely need screwing to the body somehow. Otherwise, consider the Gary Willis method- double-sided tape! As I don't slap, I'd love a ramp that was simply a continuation of the fretboard, and ran right from the leading edge of the bridge pickup to the fretboard. Difficult on your W because of the way the fretboard blends into the body. Edit- it'll also be a pain to contour the underside to match the curve on the top face of the Streamer...
 14.
I don't dislike anyone I've worked with ... I think you should at least be able to tolerate people.
Well, there's my problem right there. I can't abide work, and many of my "colleagues" are simply Satan's apostles in disguise. By the time I'm done at work, 1) There is no time 2) I'm utterly "peopled-out" So I just can't commit to this band stuff. In the past, I have generally found the drummers to be the good guys. With the odd notable exception.
 15.
John Hall and the Litigators.
Who would doubtless pick fights with; Ibanez and the Imitators If they were at the same gig
 16.
I carry both my Corvettes (4 and 5) in a Hiscox Liteflite and they fit beautifully. The only thing to watch is that they're a bit arse heavy, so the balance can be a bit iffy!
That's true of most basses in the said cases. Unless they're really light..
 17. I should think one of the regular Hiscox liteflite cases will fit. Fits all of these; Streamer Infinity Jazz Precision Vigier Passion Stingray 5 But not a Fortress 5.. To horn is just too high/long. Don't think the 'Vette is quite as... Er.... Protuberant, so it ought to fit!
 18.
Testes, testes, 1...2.....3!?? (Thanks Beavis and Butthead)
Would've been my suggestion also...
 19. The various eq manufacturers' sites often have this sort of info. All I know is the ones I've used and liked, and the ones I've used and haven't liked. Worst? Fender and Status Best? The one in my NS CR5 The Vigier is good, but the fixed boost/cut is a bit extreme The MEC 2 band is OK. Never tried any bespoke ones. I'd expect East and whatnot to be good/flexible. Edit +/- 12 or 15dB is not uncommon..
 20.
..."RIP some geezer from some band who you should have heard of but might not have"
Surely everyone's heard of Sabbath? I didn't know he'd died...
 21.
Wish more basses had a thumbrest like that
They do. They're called Five Strings, I think...
 22.
Two separate leads out of the L/R channels into two separate DI boxes then onto the desk?
It's all more boxes, more boxes, MORE BOXES! I thought the whole idea is that it's a one box fix for all your bass playing woes. Guess not. Edited for- If they'd made it phantom powerable and given it two XLRs, you'd be able to jettison the power adaptor and two DI boxes from your gig bag.Add an aux "in" 3.5mm socket for external sources, and it'd be perfect. Wouldn't mind if it cost £100 more if it had those.
 23.
You're obviously missing the bigger picture. It's not just a live tool. I'm sure you will find something more suitable.
I'd mainly use it at home, but don't want cables/boxes all over the place. No single device does what I need. Back to the Pandora, then. That gets closest to catering for my requirements.
 24.
Cool. But why not do the back of the headstock and neck too while you're at it?
Both my Vigier and Yamaha are done on the back. But the necks are painted, too. Hell, they even did the sides, too. And the fretboards match! I know some hate painted necks, but it bothers me not one iota.
