1.
On his thumb.. My partner has a similar gift... Hers is double jointed... Probably the same thing going on here..
This. My wife's thumbs are double-jointed. Mine certainly aren't. Not sure that it confers any advantage that can't be achieved through a change of technique or practise for the rest of us folks...
 2. Bought an NS 5CR EUB from Ieuan. What a nice guy! Can't fault him in any way. Friendly. Helpful. Deal went without a hitch...
 3. I have a PX4-D. Great piece of kit. Use mine for practice with decent headphones daily. SO much better than even a practice amp in a domestic environment. Ruthlessly exposes all your playing faults, too. When you go back to loudspeakers, any vices you may have had are all but inaudible.
 4.
Depends on the bass. BTW most "black" basses aren't. IMO for a bass to be properly considered black, the only allowable non-black items are: frets, fret markers and strings
That makes my Vigier "black". Even the hole in the jack socket is black...
 5.
Why ? Anything in particular?
They let me in and ignored me. The shop is badly laid out with too little space. The service was indifferent. Until Alex popped in on his day off and recognised me from the (old) Bass Centre days. Product knowledge was lacking- one of the staff suggested I buy a Music man bridge for my OLP - it's not a direct swap and the MM ones bear the original instrument's serial number. They didn't have any EUBs at all. Don't believe the hype. They ain't all that.
 6.
....and you MUST visit the Bass Gallery.
Have to say my first visit left me utterly underwhelmed. I suppose I should be grateful that they let me in at all...
 7.
PM's replied to! Still available bump!
PM'd Accordingly....
 8. Mine was lovely. Well made, nice to look at- black/black/pau ferro 1990 fretless 5. Just didn't do it for me tone-wise, rounds or flats. Sold it. Realised that I don't really like fretless at all. Going to get an EUB instead.
 9.
Yes '87 onwards, thats where the 6 bolt neck, truss rod adjusting wheel and 3 band EQ came from. Early ones are Alnico pickup equipped too for full Ray goodness
But lacking flip-up battery compartments and having no hum-cancelling phantom coil for single-coil mode..
 10. I've had basses from 2 of the list. Both had/have "issues" One was a custom build that was already complete, the other I ordered. The service I received was top- notch. The products? Flawed. Both were no match for my all- conquering Vigier Passion and Warwick Fortress Masterman. In fact, I'll add my Yamaha to that list. Custom? Twice bitten. Thrice? Not today, thanks.
 11. Imagine... A bass with no controls! Paradise or heresy? We'd have nothing to fiddle with or worry about. Could make for some nice clean designs, though.
 12.
I,m a terrible compilation album junkie
Me, too. But I burn my own. There's one that never seems to come out of the player, which has a weird mixture of stuff including- Tool Gotye Vangelis Iron Maiden Ra Bjork Helmet But everyone seems to like it. Even the kids (?!)
 13. Don't some Ampeg cabinets also have this "feature"? Harder to see through the grille cloth, though.
 14.
Nominal UK voltage has been 230V for quite sometime. Although in practice the voltage we receive at the socket hasn't changed at all.
That's a good thing. Don't want my turntable running 4% too slow!
 15.
So what's the script with active bass, 4 controls, vol, pan, bass, treble?
Adjust to taste. But feel for those with 3-band, 4-band and anything with frequency AND level controls/ filters...
 16. Just as long as your front man says it like Elvis... Presley. Not Costello.
 17. wasn't me that said it was too close to the mark...
 18.
It has certain appeal despite the use of "funk", although I suspect we'd probably use another name to avoid problems with oversensitive funky souls...
Soften it a bit? Funk-U very much..
 19. Do you know much about the innards? Essentially, they're modular inside, it's not all on one board, and the leads between each bit aren't hardwired, they're just push-fit connectors which inevitably come loose at some point. Open it up and make sure they're all pushed home properly. DO NOT open it up whilst powered. Mains power will render some parts live! Of it's not those, which fuse are you blowing? The internal one above the power lead socket? IIRC it's a T3.15Amp. Do check the value, and see if you can get a "slow- blow" fuse of the same value. That may prove better, and still gives the right degree of protection. Hope that's of some use!
 20.
I believe that original S1 pickups have 2 wires from each coil, to enable these to be switched (parallel/series).
+1 That's what I'd expect to find under the scratchplate.
 21. Anyone who favours single pickups, don't accidentally buy a Warwick Fortress Masterman... It'll confuse the hell out of you!
 22.
Recently went thru the headphone auditioning thing as my Sennheiser 201 cheapys were failing to cope with the bass levels thru my Zoom B9... I actually prefer full over ear types to these on ears but they are fine for a couple of hours blasting.
201s just can't cut it with uncompressed bass. I favour circumaural types, too. For what we're using them for, closed- back designs are preferable. Less sound leakage, and therefore no spill in studios, and less aggro for others in the domestic environment. I use the old Sennheiser HD 215 mk1, and they're fine.
