I am very much liking the look of the jags and from what i have heard on you tube they sound lovely, what colour is yours? theres a black on for sale on here atm which looks very nice! mmm may have to sell the aria afterall!
They are great basses. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I am really suprised they stopped making them. I also have the black Jag although I kept with the original off white pickguard. The one for sale is sweet looking, I may even be tempted to get a black PG at somepoint. May aswell stick a pick of the boys up hehehe.

P-Bass. Should I have one? If so, which one?
Have a look at the Squier Classic Vibe series of basses, great quality and well loved on here. The new series of Mexican built Fenders look great, not played one mind. Also, Japanese Fenders turn up on here secondhand from time to time. I've owned one for six years, and they are superbly built, great sounding, everything you want from a precision. Happy hunting Nige
if you check the for sale section you will see a young fella selling his squier Jag for a song. It has the benefit of the split P/J so you can upgrade both the P and J pups or either one at your discretion depending on your tastes. It may be worth checking out buddy, plus parker muse seems like a good guy to deal with so you should be ok with dealing with him. -
I have been gassing for basses for years and have had many many basses pass through my hands. I have had my jag for the full duration of my journey and have recently added a jetglow Ric to complete my set of wicked basses. Since getting the Ric I have been only been using that at home and rehearsals. Its a great bass and I am more than happy with it however I picked up my jag last night for the first time in a few weeks and fell in love with how it plays all over again. Now this isnt a thread that will lead me to selling my Ric, but I am just so suprised that after gassing over a massive amount of high end basses it turns out that the Jag may have just been THE bass for me. When I look at both of the basses sitting together I have a massive smile but I now realise that the jag will be getting just an equal share of the limelight as the Ric. Goes to show cash doesnt get you the best bass and its all down to the users preference........I may just have had an epiphany This may also go for this stupid gas for ampage I am now on a quest for. Spoke to ou7shined about markbass and he has shown me the upside of the MB range. Again I may have been gassing over 'the next best thing' however it may turn out I actually have all I really need and possbily more. 2 epiphanies in 1 morning. Think I will go back to bed, im exhausted!!!!

fantastic review. Im now looking over at mine and just smiling I cant imagine the added feature on the Vintage Tone Selector ever being needed. I feel my Ric has all the top end and clanky I would ever need. In saying that it also has all the bottom end I could want aswell. Im not sure how Ric do it but to have both top and bottom clarity shining through your sound, im guessing this is where all our hard earned money goes when we buy them!!!!!

This forum has such a great bunch of members, I'd never doubt that if I was in a spot of bother, some kind soul on here would come to my rescue.
Anyone else see Later tonight? There was this band on who seemed to go on and on playing a despised type of music that no-one really understood. yep, step forward "Beady Eye"!!
Yeah I was watching it too. Now I was a massive fan of oasis back when they were good and I still like to cover a few of their first album songs. But the Beady Eye band are just boring. Its funny to say Noel WAS the talent hahaha. Dont suppose you caught Liam Gallaghers interview mid way???? Its amazing to see someone so up their own jacksy. I think Jools producers made him do that interview though!!!!! you could tell he didnt want to be there. -

I had the 2x10 but hadnt tried the 15ext cab. looks awesome mate (pity about the guy holding the bass though )

Today was quite a day regarding an unprompted PM by one of our very own BC'ers. Now I wont name the fella just incase im over stepping the mark, however I hope he says hello on this thread. In my for sale thread I was advised that a VT Bass pedal may get me a O/D sound that I have been searching for. I agreed that I had heard great things and I may check it out. So today I was offered a loan of VT Bass pedal. It may not sound the biggest gesture to some, but this is a chap that I have not had any dealing with and lets face it, if it wasnt for BC we would be complete strangers. I was really taken with the good will of this person whos only request was that I pay for return postage once I have tried the pedal and decided if I wanted to buy my own. I say bravo to the community spirit this BC'er and a massive thank you to his amazing offer.

oh man this seems like the way forward for me. 500watts and cracking cabs too. My only concern would be transporting the unit. Im sure you werent lifiting the cab about,,however what about handles??? I can only see 1 handle at the top of the cab. Is that the only way to shift these about and if it is how sturdy is it?

So it turns out that when I started playing bass I had to give up my self confidence as well!!!!! I say all you stop wishing for a hug and someone to tell you your loved and just play your bloody bass. I know what I can do and what I cant do on bass and I love trying new styles and even things as basic as scales/modes. If you play bass, you play bass. shouldnt you just be happy with that? Whats all this nonsense about fakers? Is someone playing the bass for you or are you miming over a recording? Man up men. WE ARE BASS PLAYERS........................BE PROUD.

Bought my old H&K rig back that I sold 5 years ago!
munkonthehill replied to warwickhunt's topic in Amps and Cabs
H&K gear is awesome. If they decided to bring out lightweight gear I would be very tempted. In saying that,,,,,god knows what kinda price they would be -
if it was in better nick I would be considering this. I imagine it weighing a tonne in comparison to my combo. However im sure my Ric would love this.........
weird. I thought the way everyone was creaming their white knickers about these that it would have shifted in a flash. What happened to all the people dying to get their hands on one and made a big fuss about release dates and stuff??? They must have all managed to land themselves one!!! or possibly sycophantic babble. the jury is out.
the jury is in,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Sycophantic babble.

Is my finger picking technique.. odd?
munkonthehill replied to DeeBassist's topic in General Discussion
First of all, I rest my thumb on the neck pickup, whereas I see a crap-load of players rest on the/near the bridge pickup. Then, my thumb hardly ever drops down from the pickup, even if I'm playing on the G. If I do drop my thumb, I only got to the E, no lower, and I then start playing the E with my thumb, and the other 3 strings with my fingers, like a classical guitar picking technique. Would you consider this weird? xD
I consider playing with scissors a weird technique!! If you play like that and it works then who cares where your thumb is. We all play different so who cares. -
Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.
Am a bit giddy about this one. Took the plunge and ordered an Ampeg Portaflex 350 along with an Ashdown ABM115 from andertons in guildford. Placed the order earlier this afternoon and it should be with me tomorrow. Very very excited to try this out, just gutted I gotta wait til saturday to try it with the rest of the band. I'll make sure to keep this updated with a review for anybody who is interested anyway Cheers
Bit curious why you went with the ashdown rather than the matching ampeg portaflex cab!!

i was told on Friday that a bass line that the guitarist wanted me to play HAD TO have an open E in it. it was just a cover of some song. I told him nah I dont really use open notes,,,,,there was an awkward silence,,,I was then instructed,,,but its an open note thats played!
This may have been the problem. If the lead guitar was playing everything (ours tries to as well) this often leaves the rhythm with nothing to do. If he was good then he would be hanging back. If he was bad then he may have been overplaying and the whole thing would sound like a train wreck. I usually have to stop our band when we have run through a tune after the first 3 or 4 run throughs because they're both trying to play the same. The rhythm and timing go out of the window. If they actually played the same there would be no issue, but playing in unison takes a hell of a lot of practice. Why have two guitars if they both play the same?
they dont play the same parts. Im probably not giving a full picture. Just take it as the 2nd guitarist wasnt pulling his weight and not learning the songs properly.
I can only say how I would have liked to handle this. My opinion is that I don't care what it takes behind closed doors/rehearsal to get everything moving in the right direction so nothing is meant as personal but to a collective means to an end..ie, the band sounds as good as it can within the parameters we have. I don't like slack rehearsals and I don't like poor egos... ego's themselves are fine if backed up and the person isn't so snotty about it though, and everyone should have to take a collective hit on their playing from time to time, but whether you can rip someones playing apart is another thing. Setting someone on edge is not good and likely to fracture the band which may not be the required result, but having to keep quiet just so as not to hurt someones feelings is a step too far as well. Just trying to work through all that needs to be done in an adult condusive way should be possible without toys out of the pram so grounded people only, IME. If the second gtr has had a fit, then maybe you are best off without him..particuarly as his parts didn't make him a must-have member, AIUI. FWIW, it takes two very good gtrs to not get in the way of each other as they all seems to think they HAVE to carry the song on their terms, alone. Band politics huh..????
yip who would have them,,,,,,in show biz,,,never work with children, animals or musicians (however that could be coverd with the children comment). It was starting to tear the band a bit having him there. The lead guitarist was scunnered as he was doing everything and realised even the bits the other was doing was wrong alot of the time. Whenever it was just him and I playing it sounded off and then I got para about my playing. The drummer couldnt be bothered with his constant excuses on why he hadnt learnt songs or why he was tired all the time and that NEXT week it would be better,,,,however it was always NEXT week.

OK, So a wee update. The singer jacked in the band the other week as he found me and the main guitarist were getting at him for not knowing the tunes. I told him that if he gets the tunes in hand then we have to issues. The singer is now bang on. not only has his bravado and confidence improved. He is singing much better and mucking in the band much better. Now bear with me on this part....... Our drummer couldnt make rehearsals on friday. So our main guitarist held down the beats and done it very well for his first time in a band situation. This left our other guitarist to AT LEAST play rhythm guitar and get the structure of the tunes right. OH NO NO NO,, in turn he was still hanging fire to see what I was doing in the song and taking my lead WTF!!!!!! He should know the tunes and their structure. Our lead guitarist swears he has been doing this from day dot, however it was hard to hear it in the mix until our lead guitarist sat out. So I txt him tonight to see if he needs help with the tunes from me or the lead guitarist. He then questioned why I would ask such a thing as he is completely competent in all tunes....................AWKWARD....................He then asked if his playing was a concern of everyone, the reply was yes. The final txt was a bit martyrish................saying...well you guys go on without me, you obvioulsly play at a higher level than I ever can and he doesnt appreciate us adding pressure to him............I have to say after playing with the guy for 8 months I think I am the picture of f***ing patience. Im obviously missing out loads of wee bits of how this person interacts with us all. However I am giving near basics at this point. So we are now a 4 piece rock band. Hopefully we can now push on a bit further for out gig in a month.
