1.
Its hard when they're for charity. the people who are organising generally dont have a clue. You just turn up and play. your not getting paid so if you go with an open mind as WoT says you never get too let down. put it this way, you played a few numbers, probably had a few pints and at least now you know the guys a d**k. As someones already said, don't let it put you off as some of my most enjoyable gigs have been for good causes and you're raising money for something worthwhile.
yeah your right mate, now that ive finally calmed down I can see that it was poorly organised with really bad comms. it really is a lesson learned to this sort of thing, like i said before im new to gigging and im extremely eager to play at a drop of a hat. we live and learn i guess
2.
I took 110 photos! Certainly the best bass bash and the finest collection of basses I've ever witnessed. A bunch of fine people too, excellent food and beer, all round better way to run things with the social element and overnight stay. You really get a chance to get to know people. Awesome. Need to sort phots but I've already seen some classics It was well advertised, shame you couldn't make it. Next time?
yeah i would love to go to this sort of thing, only prob is my son is only 3months old so doubt the wife would allow overnight stays, so driving distance is a must, anything else arranged?? whats the etiquette for these sort of doos, do you bring your own bass too just incase someone fancies a shot, do you jam with each other, is it sales or just showing off gear?
3. oh what!!!!!!!!!!!when was this? are there anymore in scotland coming up.
4.
I played a Jag bass through an Ashdown 4x12 cab yesterday (but via my 1978 Bassman head though) and it was one of the best tones I've ever had. I have an Ampeg cab at home and this was just the rehearsal studio set up. A lot of tone! I'm interested in those 4x10 Ampeg cabs. Out of curiosity, what's the instrument in the background?
dare i say................ its a gretsch 6string
5. andy andy andy, whilst some of us face redundancy I see you flashing the cash hahahaha. the rig looks sweet. not sure if i prefer the ampeg 8x10 though
6.
If they said play 'til 9 and it was nine when they pulled you I'm not sure you have a gripe. On the other hand, if they pulled you early you have to face the double question - did the singer pull you 'cos he thought you were crap, or did he pull you 'cos he thought you were brilliant and would show him up? (Dangerous territory - coat already on and running for the door...!)
the latter of course
7. here we have the rig in its full glory, it will be tested on saturday at my next gig.
8. here you go folks, hope you all dig my new rig. we have my amazing fender Jaguar bass, possibly the most versatile bass ever made. on top is my ashdown mag 600h and to complete this setup is my ampeg 4x10hlf. I look at this setup and just smile hahahahaha I havent gigged this setup yet and I cant wait, I have a gig on 7th nov in dakota in greenock, if anyones interested please pop by.
9. yeah I know what you mean about the lack of comms, im really new to gigging and unsure about the do's and dont's I i knew 3 out of 4 of the guys in the band through various ways and didnt realise they were all in a band together, it was only the singer i didnt know. I have a gig on the 7th and we are the only band on thankfully. I can honestly say I will never be a part of anything like that again. it was awkward and annoying and even though i drank enough cider to sail a ship my night was ruined
10.
Is that the w****r? And I don't mean to be thick, but who was booking you in the first place? Surely that person whould have been organising who goes on when.
aye he is the w***er, him and his workmate organised he full night, it was his workmate that booked us but it was the w***er that confirmed we could play
11.
My first question: Who told you this and was he or she a reliable source? Because it sounds like they weren't.
the use of the gear info came from the singer/guitarst of the main band
12.
Seems like you got offered a slot, you played the slot, then called the other bandleader names for wanting to play his slot!? Also a PM your way Si
when its put to me this way i feel kinda bad, but i just feel it a waste of time bringing a bass for 4 songs, pulling us 30-40 minutes before they went on. I just felt the whole thing was a waste of time
13. cheers for insight. sorry for the scottish dialect
14. hola there, ok folks dig this, im not sure if i should be annoyed about this or not, however i am scunnered. About 3weeks ago i was told that my band was offered a slot at a charity doo, we would be going on first then a chap who organised the nights band would be on second. all seems well so far. We got confirmation it was cool to use their amps and drums. When i arrived(bass in hand) it turns out my best wee pal is the bassist in the main band, when i told him we were told we were playing he knew nothing about it!!!!!!!!!! He of course said it was cool to use his amp(I actually gave him the amp, how ironic i have to ask to use it). we are told we can play till 9 as the main band are going on at that time. we manage about 4 songs then the singer/guitarist/w***er tells us thats time, he then puts on an IPOD for the next 30minutes. At the break i spoke with the other guitarist, drummer and bassist and ask if we can maybe get another shot, they all say aye no problem as they want to hear what we have to offer. The singer/guitarist/w***er says 'no mate, its our gig' awkward moment as I then called him a..... So is it me thats out of order? I didnt want to go to the charity night but as i was getting to play i made an exception, I can understand if we blagged our way onto play but we were invited. The night was then filled with me shouting w***er at the guy!!!!!!!!!!! not my proudest moment, however I felt it was justified

17. i love my jag, but as you can see from my pic <-------------- I have the black number. IMO the best looking of them all. amazing basses and amazing feel and tone, they tick all the boxes for me.
18. ive been practising with the amp and my ampeg 4x10hlf in the house and it sounds amazing, I actually commented to our very own andy67 when i bought the cab that i was going to buy a 1x15 extention, let me say he was right in telling me that I would not have any problems with bottom end. The amp does everything i want and the cab looks and sounds like sex with a porn queen. I couldnt be happier (until I finally get an ampeg head that is). Question for all ashdown users, do you take much note of the VU meter. I have set my input controls and bass so that it runs at 0 as it says in the manual,,,what you chaps think about this?
19. nearly had this home with me but due to possible redundancy in my work ive had to pull out,,,,aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh i know have to watch this go to another home Im not sure if im more down at possbible redundancy or the fact I dont own this amp. Sorry again for the hassle Andy.
20.
cheers fellas, very kind words indeed. Steve terms could be arranged! andy
surely you should know better about trusting a sheriff officer Andy haha. I would honestly bite your hand off after hearing the cab i just bought from you, I just dont have the cash the noo for it though, think I may have an extra 200bucks at present
21. +1 on andy, really top bloke and great guy to deal with. bump to keep this thread on top (I would buy this off andy if he offered a finance program )
22. im more than happy with my fender DPT-100, it has a detachable base so can be used as a pedal or not, pretty cool idea plus bang on tuning and tracks uber quick. just wish my guitarist didnt like it as much
23. I just had the pleasure of meeting this man, Easy to deal with and a great host when i picked up an ampeg 4x10hlf from him this evening. Thanks again dude and i will keep in touch. let me know when your gigging again.
24. 259!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was ripped off at 300 aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh
25. oh ya dancer, I cant wait to get this set up and at a rehersal. thanks chaps, my only concern is that the cab is only 400watt at 4ohms. so i just have to wath the output hahahaha.
