  1. I have a black one and it is a lot of bass for the money. Mine does not have the selector switch so this maybe a later model. What does the switch do?
  2. As the OP I can see both sides. The threads that particulary interested me were the DIY Effects thread. It is so long and covers so mant types of effects and building methods that, in my opinion, it deserves a sub category in the same way the Lefties does in Bass Guitars. The Interesting FRFR thread is the other one and I have stopped reading it. Again it meanders and often resembles a Helix supports thread. Ironically I posted a piece of information in a long thread the other day and was castigated that i had already been mentiioned earlier in the thread. The very next post thanked me for posting the information. So I can see Ped's points and they are valid. With the FRFR thread I have just stopped reading it although I see that it is a good resource for some. With the DIY Effects thread, I still think it deserves a sub-category.
  3. I made some of these to use my Smoothound wireless transmitter as a body pack but they would also work well with Xvive and Amoon amongst others. The cable uses Sommer Tricone II cable plus a REAN in-line socket and a Sommer Hicon pancake right angkled jake plug. It is 75cm long (2ft6in approx). If you need a different length, cable or connectors, please ask. Postage £2.
  4. I have just realised that the Greg Bennet bass in my profile pic is 24 frets as is my Yamaha 5 string. Let's not mention my Les Paul...
  5. Jazz basses do sound thin to me too. I have an Aerodyne that has both P and J pickups and the J is only used for practice. I should probably buy a P but the Aerodyne has a jazz neck and I love that. I should add that it looks devine.
  6. The power amps in the Quilter and TH500. The TH500 uses the ICEPower 250ASX2 module that outputs 500W into 8R. Slightly more but 50W is neither here or there. Any difference you hear is likely due to the Pre-Amp implementation.
  7. I have not used the Smoothound with my Yamaha 5 yet.
  8. I decided to use my Smoothound as a body pack so I made some cables. All were made with 75cm of Tricone MkII cable. They should be OK with other wireless systems but I only have a Smoothound. This one has a REAN Cable Socket on one end and a HiCon (Sommer) right angled connector to connect to the bass. This shows the connectors tucked into my strap together with the SMOOTHOUND.This one shows the REAN back to back connector together with Hicon right angled connector again attached to my strap. The bass end has a Neutrik right angled connector. Finally we have a straight cable connected via the REAN back to back witg the smoothound tucked into the ticket pocket on my jeans.
  9. I have two black basses with chips in the Poly finish. Is there and easy way to repair them?
  10. If the wood is nice, I would use Crimson's Guitar Finishing Oil. Danish is OK I used it on a neck recently but it took months to harden properly and lose its tackyness.
  11. I believe there was a period when RCF made active speakers for Mackie.
  12. The basics look good but the active crossover is time aligned for the drivers in the Thump and in the BC112, the crossover frequency is much lower than the 3KHz published. Twwelves will beam considerably below 3Khz so in my opinion it is a bit high.
  13. The feel was OK but they were quite dull. To be fair they were Bronze strings so they would not be that bright to start with. They were much better than the Dunlops that they replaced.
  14. Anyone got a modeled patch for Vestigal Sideband distortion?
  15. I put elioxirs on my Washburn Jumbo and that put me off. I found they did noy play well much like myself) I might give them a whirl next time though.
  16. Interesting. THe TH500 uses the ICEPower 250ASX2 module wheras most bass amp manufacturersuse the 125ASX2 for their 500W amps. The main difference is that the 250ASX2 can deliver 500 watts into 8 or 4 ohm wheras the 125ASX2 gives approx 250 into 8 ohms and 500 into 4 ohms.
  17. The Rode looks like a very good mic. The reason I suggested the Sontronics is that is hase switchable responses, making is a more all round performer.
