Does Valve Orange Glow create more heft than Orange Glow LEDs?

Surely the glow comes from the heaters, not the amount of power being dissipated within the device? The last valve amp I had was fitted ECC83s and I am sure they glowed.

The problem is that valve/tube amps and some solid state amps have the same power output no matter what the impedance. Valve amps via a transformer and the TH 500 has the same output into either 4 or 8 ohms. Using a voltage to measure efficiency. falsely favours a lower impedance speaker. Volts are the driving force, the PD or potential difference between two points,and without volts nothing would work. However volts only exist on their own if the voltage source is not connected to anything. Once you connect a voltage to any electrical circuit, current flows and watts are consumed. Efficiency is fundamentally power out divided by power in so using the same voltage for 4 & 8 ohm speakers makes a 4 ohm speaker seem more efficient.

The only issue with The Veyron for me is too much light, although I can always find it when the stage lights dim.

I Suspect the watts we’re squeezed in at the factory and then hermetically sealed in at the cabinet.

What is voltage sensitivity?

How can it be cooler than a fridge? Seriously though there is no fridge cooler than the Marshall.

If you have two 8 ohm cabinet in parallel to give 4 ohms, the power will be doubled approximately. However the mutual coupling between the two cabinets/drivers will add 3-6dB (depending on which paper/book you read). So a 6-9dB increase, not to be sniffed at and certainly worthwhile when you consider 10dB is perceived as a doubling of volume. Of course if you just get a 4 ohm Single driver cab, it is a 3dB increase and that is only just about noticeable.

The 15” in a big cabinet may or may not be of any importance. All 15 inch drivers are not the same.

While I would prefer a higher frequency And it would be interesting to find out the slope of the filter. 24dB per octave is best but even 12dB should make a difference. It would be interesting to find out what you think in a gigging situation.

To be fair either looking at what you need and don’t need when looking at an HPF. You need to consider how low your cabinet can go safely. Anything below that will affect your sound adversely. I use the BC112 that Stevie designed and there is nothing useable at 27Hz. 30-35Hz would be my preferred cut off. Even low B on a fiver has little useable output with the open B at 31Hz and most rooms don’t like really low frequencies. If you use a four string 35Hz will not adversely affect your sound. Of course these are my own views but they are the result of some years of research.

You don't have to. It is my view and your's is just as valid as long as it is from personal experience.

The problem is that two 12 or 15" PA tops of most brands are a compromise. I agree that there are many tops from QSC, RCF, Yamaha that work for bass but not if vocals, guitars and drums all go through them. We some times use some Alto 18" subs with the Alto 12" tops and that works quite well. Lots of headroom and I barely have my amp on when we use those, but they are impractical for most pub and club gigs.

I do play in a covers band and yes I rarely have a good enough PA to trust the bass with. I hope you have also have the benefit of a sound person that does not use up all the FOH headroom with the kick drum. Don't get me wrong, I understand the benefits of a good PA and monitors , in a a past life, was Technical Manager for a Ramsa. The FRFR PA cabs many use for monitoring or as a combo will be adequate for Bass only, or Vocals with a little reinforcement for other instruments if used as PA tops. However if the bass and drums are to go through the PA, then several thousand real watts are needed and better drivers than fitted in even the best "tops". Now if you have a decent line array and some serious subs....but most of us can only dream.

It is a good point Stevie, I can probably count on the fingers of one hand when I have had decent PA support. I despair when the sound person thinks my bass will sound better through two Mackie 15" Thumps than my bass cabinet. Of course a long lead or radio system helps when comparing.

I bought a Yamaha 5 string and it has unidentified strings fitted. The B string seems too floppy for me to use so I haft thdcfollowing questions. Is it just the string? It is 130 thou. thick. I read about pushing the string hard down on the nut and bridge, Does this work and how is it done. Is a particular brand/type of string better than another? Thd Bass is a Yamaha and has a scale length of 34”
