  1. Why 15”?
  2. I feel I should add my comments to this. The original 1x12 project was started by Lawrence, Phil Starr and Stevie and made an excellent single 12” cabinet. I came to the project late, and offered little ,but hopefully helped by building the first prototype for the Mk2. I then built one of two (Stevie built the other) Italian Poplar cabinets, mine loaded with the Beyma SM212 plus Celestion 1415 compression driver and P Audio horn. I gigged that Cabinet for two years until the lighter Faital Pro driver became available. While the road to the CNC Kit Mk3 looks smoother than the final cabinet’s frequency response, the road to getting here was far from smooth. There were many cold days spent in Stevie’s measurement room fine tuning various combinations of driver. There was also comparisons to many other drivers and commercial cabinets and I was present for only some of these sessions. Stevie did many on his own, often in the depth of Winter. The measurement room is in a cast concrete garage and whilst well fitted our for measuring cabinet response, it it not the warmest room in the depths of Winter. The big change from the MK1 was the single large port that proved to be less prone to chuffing than multiple ports. Like many of the improvements, the large port makes little difference at lower volumes and Phil had gigged his Mk 1 cabs with four ports for a couple of years without hearing chuffing, until under test conditions. However it allows the British Cycling have used the concept of marginal improvements to put Britain top of the cycling tree and Stevie did the same with the MK2/3. Tuning the response to a true FRFR response was only part of the story. The real genius for me was rotating the horn. Although it looks a little odd, it gives more of the mids to the player when standing directly in front of the cabinet. Compared to me Mk2 with the horn horizontal, The MK3 , with the vertical horn, allows you to hear yourself however close to the cab. At 30cm/1ft, the Mk3 is easier to hear than the MK2 at 4-5ft/120-150cm. This is ideal if you are on a tight stage. I look forward to Funkle’s input as he uses the cabinet but I will be surprised if he does not love it.
  3. Best to go Top Left or bottom somewhere. Top right might interfere with the port.
  4. It looks a lot like mine....... but a lot better. A for the T nuts, I think they must be glued as well as using the spikes. I think that eight wood screws would work well enough however as each screw would be expected to hold less than 0.5kg. Of course, as with clamping, there is no need to over-fasten the fasteners.
  5. I like the look of that and I don’t want the weight of a steel grille. It looks similar to Torque grilles if my memory serves me correctly.
  6. It would be nice if someone could explain how Quilter calibrate the Watts on the BB800. The power output would depend on so many things including (actual) speaker impedance (some speakers are lower impedance that quoted, 6R* instead of 8R" or 3R* instead of 4R*) the output voltage of the bass (pickup and/or onboard preamp) the EQ settings anywhere in the chain (from bass to effects to amp) distortion used (if any) that marking a control in Watts does not seem sensible.
  7. Snap and Woof? It’s missing HEFT as far as I a concerned. Separate power supply on an amp? 45 watts at 4R? It does not address any market I can see but I will visit the optician tomorrow.
  8. Will allow more power into a lower impedance though,if the power supply is up to it.
  9. Ha someone has obviously fitted extra MOSFETs.
  10. Having gigged my cab for two years I can confirm it is durable.
  11. Hard to say as no manufacturer, that I know of, publishes battery capacity for non-rechargeable batteries.
  12. Who wants to be Technical? Well nobody does really but as others have said, there are too many other variables to take account to just say a 4x10 is louder than a 1x15. Efficiency, Xmax, impedance and many more impact the perceived loudness/volume of a cabinet. Is it sealed, ported or some form of horn? It is like saying a 3.5 litre car is faster than a 1 litre. Put the 3.5 litre engine in a Hummer and my 1.0 litre Turbocharged Suzuki will our accelerate and have a higher top speed. What you can say is that is 4 10” drivers should be louder than a single 15” if they are in similar cabinets and the drivers are of similar quality.
  13. PVA is not a great gap filler but works well if mixed with sawdust. However I suspect you will have few gaps. I also sealed the rounded corners with PVA as TuffCab adheres well to it. I fact I might well prime the whole cab with it when I build mine, although I might still cover it with some form of vinyl.
  14. Damp cloth over the top and an iron works as well. As for the clamping, ,you can over tighten and the glue does not need megatons of pressure. If you are short of clamps, put one in the centre with a sacrificial piece of wood stretching the length of the cab. This will apply pressure to both ends. Funkle, you can get a really good rounded edge just with a sander. I tried it first on the prototype and had the same results on the alpha builds that Stevie and I did. We both got really good results.
  15. Yes that’s the one.
  16. I find Fender (mad by d ' addario) very muddy sounding esp compared to Picato. The must be made to Fender pecs as I found the .same with Fender made flats. They also manage to put the change in diameter from the wrap to full diameter n the E just at the machine head of my Fender bass, so are a bugger to tune.
  17. My Trustfire also measures a tad over 8.4V fully charged.
  18. The 361 head was rated at 200W, but no impedance was stated. It was sold as a system with the folded horn cabinet ( again no impedance stated). The secret ( in my opinion) is the folded horn cabinet. Compared to a modern ported/ bass reflex design it should be 3-10dB more sensitive. 3dB is the equivalent of doubling the amplifier power ( but not be significantly louder). 10dB would be twice as loud but equivalent to an amplifier power of ten times. The 361 would be lower powered than the 250W Trace Heads and ( possibly) slightly higher powered than the 150/130W variants BUT the difference would be barely audible.
  19. I will go to the forums but there is no magic.
  20. 45 Years as a Electronics Engineer involved lots of research but I am always willing to learn. Point me to your sources and I will gladly study it.
  21. Smoke and mirrors my friend, smoke and mirrors.
  22. I agree entirely the Sennheiser range as a whole are good the and 935 in particular, but the Sontronics SOLO is now my go to Mic.
  23. I found the sane thing when I had a BLX130? The board was just asking for another pair of mosfets and, if I remember rightly, two resistors.
  24. I managed to get in touch with Trustfire and their 9V batteries are nominally 8.4V too. Although lower than a real 9V battery the 550mah capacity is 2-3 times more that a NiMh battery. I also have one in order so will report back soon.
