  1. Oh yes, love Skynyrd but those two songs…. no. Sweet Home Alabama is in our set and I hate it. I never feel the band is tight on it and there are several much better LS songs.
  2. Yes. They are all nice to have at a push but the Qu is a real step up. I bid £401.
  3. As far as I know all EBMM's are active. Therefore the value of the pot is not related to the pot values on passive basses. Here is an original MM dual band preamp.
  4. Do you mean since the 1970s or since you became 70?🤣
  5. The other thing I will add is that any band is better than the sum of its parts. Average musicians can make great bands.
  6. Just keep at it. If you are enjoying it and gigging, you will get tight. To use the football analogy, you can train/rehearse till the cows come home but you need to be match/gig fit and the only comes from playing. I have two bands. The newer one gigs regularly and has done since just after lockdown. We must have been OK as we were getting re-booked but the last few gigs it has changed. It like we really know what each other is doing and the sound just seems so tight without trying. My pre lockdown band gigged a lot and we had a rehearsal about 6 weeks ago as someone remembered us and asked us to do a party. The party went well and although we did it as a favour, we did get paid. We enjoyed it so much that we played an open mic night last Thursday, No new songs but the muscle memory was still there and I can never remember a more enjoyable night. Thee scary thing was about half way through, three people walked in. One was a superb drummer that also teaches, the other was a really good guitarist and they were very complimentary. So keep on keeping on and it will click.
  7. I saw recommendations about Duratex many years ago, possibly from yourself on TB but it is not available here. Having used Tuffcab many times, I can recommend it.
  8. Update. You may or may not know that I had a Monaco, the 12" version for a while and as I am getting a bit older and mor feeble and traded it for the lighter 10" Monza. The smaller size also makes it easier to load the car when I have the full PA loaded. I knew that I would sacrifice a small amount but as I never pushed them too hard. I did not worry. Yesterday we played The Greyhound in Blandford, Dorset. It was an open air gig and we usually play there twice each summer. However this was the first time I used the Monza there. I knew I would have to turn up the volume and I expected to have to tweak the low end a bit. I started to play and turned up and this lovely sound come out with plenty of usable low end came out. I had the feeling that it would have taken much more without breaking a sweat. I use it with my Bugera Veyron, and amp that gets seriously loud. However I am sure that the Monza would handle everything I could through at it. I am not on commission although I do get a nice cup of coffee when I drop in to LFSys World HQ in Casterbridge. Suffice to say that the Monza is a Hardy cabinet and it will not let you down.
  9. You either need a therapist or you are one.
  10. Firstly apologies. I always forget to take a money shot before a gig. Last night was an odd one. The Rebbels played an old coaching inn in Blandford Forum, The Greyhound. It is in the open air, under a huge umbrella. We usually mange a nice warm evening but last night was cloudy and a little chilly, however the crowd was good and we played well. I was using my usual rig of a Bugera Veyron into my LFSys Monza. Now the Monza has never disappointed but this was the first outing in the open. I had the volume up much higher than usual as expected but the Monza took it all in its stride. I was shocked at such a huge bass sound from a single 10. I can understand the "need" for a stack, and one day I will try another Monza but really I don't need one. Of course there was a problem. Firstly I used a cable from the pedal board to the amp that I had not made. Big mistake, The signal kept cutting out when I stood on that cable. I also must have moved the control on my M2 bass in transit. Switched to passive and all was well.
  11. Yes you can. I use a lightning to RJ45 adaptor and the iPad immediately recognizes it as an Ethernet connection as soon as you plug it in. It is in my bag as a back up, just in case I ever get WiFi problems. Just search for Lightning to Ethernet Cable.
  12. The CQ mixers added Midi control in the last firmware update so some physical controls would be possible.
  13. As long as the connectors are genuine Neutrik/Rean you will be fine. Almost all amps use the 4 pin SpeakOn connectors that will mate with either the NLRL2 or NL4/RL4 cable connectors. At this time of night I cannot remember whether the Rean SpeakOns are available as 2 pin RL2.
  14. Just a heads up on the CQ series. The CQ18 has the screen which is great but the downside is that many of the connections are TRS rather than XLR. Having built in display and some assignable rotary controls is nice when migrating from an analogue console. It also means you are not tied to the vagaries of WiFi, although my CQ20 has been rock solid in that respect. It is miles better than the Soundcraft and Behringer small format digital mixers.
  15. The safe load depends on the repetitions. According to the HSE, carrying two 23Kg loads would represent ba risk of muscular skeletal injury . https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg383.pdf
  16. True, Airbus have been using CF wings for decades but they are extremely well braced. With corporations like Yamaha involved in loudspeaker design, as well as marine and motorcycles, you would think that CF would have been considered well before now.
  17. However you will need a PA with bigger drivers/cabinets so that the audience can hear you so the savings are minimal both in cost and environmental terms. Carbon Fibre, like Fibre Glass is not strong or tough until you brace it. The bracing can be made from many different materials even wood. However to achieve the lightness, you have to make some compromises. The best example of this is the nose and front wing of an F1 Car. You only need a low speed coming together to make a real mess of these carbon fibre constructions. One of the earliest composite materials that I can across was in the early Ramsa/Panasonic WS-A series. These were of a resin construction but had external moulded ribs/braces and were incredibly strong. Some of you may remember the Elephant adverts where a full grown elephant has one leg on each of four WS-A200 speakers. I still have some of theses and they are at least 30 years old. Composites are a good material but that extra bracing comes at the price of weight. While not being the heaviest cabinets, they are by no means the lightest. Mike Arnopol, made some great versions of Dave ( Greenboy) Green’s designs in the US but he had to retire as the chemicals used had a massive impact on his health. So are we stuck with plywood? Yes and no. There are promising reports of the performance of bamboo ply. Bamboo is a grass and fast growing so environmentally friendly and reportedly, light and strong. At the moment is is still hard to get and expensive. Thankfully builders like Barefaced, LFSys, BFM etc push the boundaries in sensible ways.
  18. I found that my Lenovo Android Tab has a lot of lag compared to my iPad so I can appreciate that. They are the same vintage but clearly the iPad is more responsive. Don't get me wrong, I grew up using analogue consoles and loved using them. My first Digital mixer was a 32 channel Panasonic DA7 and it was clear even way back that the physical controls were on the wane.
  19. I have transferred @JohnDaBass's Free/Bad Co patch from the B1Four to the B2 Four. It works really well.
  20. I will watch that video with interest later but I wonder if the need for a physical control layer is as much a "tablet phobia"? I have the CQ20 and after struggling initially with some of the finer points, I find the level of control I can get on an iPad is superb once you learn all the fine adjustment tricks. Te same was true of the Soundcraft UI16.
  21. Try not to drill the hole too large and if it is hard to get the port in, freeze the port overnight.
  22. Just a small tip, it the hole is a tad tight when fitting the port, put the port in the freezer overnight. The temperature coefficient of the PVC mean the port will shrink but gradually expand into the hole as it warms.
  23. Last week, we used our ancient powered mixer and a pair of Ramsa 8s as the monitors. We have used them for a few gigs and not had a problem. This time, at soundcheck the drummer said he could not hear the monitors. of course I had forgotten that they have a narrow dispersion 60x60. Changing the angle solved the problem and made me realise that since using them we have had no feedback problems from the monitors. It is not something you always consider when looking at a PA speaker.
