I bought a fiver some years ago, a Washburn and it played really well, nice tight Low B, nice acton Unfortunately I did not, Nice to see that most use them to go below E, To hear some fiver evangelists, Low B is the only note worth playing.

That exaggerated peak at 2.1KHz and is in the "presences" area making that driver a contender for a guitar speaker. The 3KHz peak added to the 2.1 KHz peak may explain the exaggerated mids.

Phil I am impressed. Yes a full metal grille will improve things but that looks nice. BTW if you double click the pictures that are big enough.

If you go on TB there has been a lot of discussion about the variability/quality control on Modulus. I have no opinion #justsaying/

Glad you got Black Velvet fixed. It was always my Bette noir. I know trace liked MDF for cabs as they thought it sounded better than Chioboard or ply. That was from one of the engineers there not the marketing dept.

I preferred A in the first two sample. In the rehearsal, I can forgive your hesitation. Black Velvet is a deceptive song in that if is all about the bass and the passages ate the end of the chorus are a B. I read that the bass line on the record was a mixture of real bass and synthesised bass. Or maybe that was my excuse as I found it hard, On second and subsequent listenings the B speaker seems mid heavy or bass light. I am using AKG 450 headphones from an old macbook pro so the quality should be OK.

A lot of sense on here as usual. However a number of so called pro mixer monkeys* seem to think that the kick drum is all that needs to be heard. I was at the Engine Rooms jn Southampton to see Glenn Hughes on Saturday and when the drummer hit the kick you could feel it in your guts. iI was loud and obviously heavily compressed. The effect was that when the kick drum was hit, it drowned out the vocals, bass and guitars. Ironically the worst sound in the room was staring directly behind the mixing console. So if you cannot hear the drums (or more importantly the audience cannot hear the drums) put them through the PA but not through the Mackies. Mic choice and placement is vital as Phil said earlier in the thread. Also try to remember that it is the overall sound you are aiming for, although as you had the wherewithal to ask for advice, you are probably half way there. (*they like to be called sound engineers but that is a misnomer)

Just out of interest. Was the 19mm Ply birch? I have some 19mm spruce ply (slightly softer but lighter then birch) in the garage and was wondering if that would sound much different.

If you are ;looking for a small form factor like the Mi Bass then the expensive option is the Demeter Minnie 800. Very small, very expensive and never capable of 800 watts output. Mid way try [url="http://www.class-module.com"]www.class-module.com[/url] their GA series are sub £400 and they have a sample for about £300 at the moment Or you could find a builder/make one yourself, to your requirements with a module from one of the major class D module manufacturers.

I could not get to the Bash, I used up all my Brownie points going to Glenn Hughes on Sat. However would love to hear the response of those that went to the Bash.

My wife would not be able to take it so I have a spare ticket if anyone wants one.Hughes is in both my opinion, and his, the best rock vocalust alive and is no mean bassist.He was part of Deep Purple Mk 3. For cables, as Bill says low resistance, low capacitance is best and both increase with increasing length. The brsnds Bill mentions are great but add Sommer and Klotz to those in Europe. Connectors? In my opinion Neutrik and some Switchcraft Jack plugs. You will set Rean advertised as Neutrik but they are not the same quality. Your rig is part of your instrument, without it you don't have a sound. However like your bass, it is a personal choice. I know some people say your rig is only an onstage monitor and your sound is through the FOH but that FOH is not always there and your rig is.

Two of those would be a target for Al Queda.

I don't belirve that Passive EQ can boost. With controls set flat it cuts everything by a certain amount but mimics boost by cutting some frequencies less than others. You need a lot of gain before or after passive eq to make up for the loss of signal. Passinwnd is the best guy to ask though as he designed the preamp that we are using with active bass and mid but a passive treble control. The real answer though is to use your ears.

Phil you are right about speker size. It is one of the of the parameters that detemines the sound. However you are wrong in that I don't think Bill was criticising you but someone else.

What is the difference between Overdrive and Fuzz?

Those buttons are the destroyer of speakers, they are evil.

The nut then is just a string guide and all the problems that nuts cause are eliminated. I believe Mosrite also used zero frets.

Of course it is different stroke for different foks and I would love to be in Jule's position of making a living from the thing I love but it seems harsh to criticise anyone for their manufacturing decisions especially when almost everyone (of any size) does it. I also have to agree with Passinwind that PCB mounted components are not the problem, it is the impementation by some companies that cause the problem. Solder joints are electrical contacts not mechanical joints. So called value engineering often lowers the value of a product over time.

On a seriuos note I have degenerative problems with C2-C5 vertebrae in my neck (mine ,not the bass) all on the left hand side so even with a well balanced bass, all the weight is on that side. My old Westone Thunder 1A had to go as it weghed a ton. My Aerodyne is great. Not too heavy and well balanced. I also have a well paddded and wide leather strap. All the fancy ones don't work. My other bass is an old Peavey Milestone 4 and it sounds and plays great. It is too heavy though so I thought maybe I could fit basswood or paulownia body? Took it apart to find it is a laminated (plywood) body yet is sounds great and the neck is superb. So if you see a cheap P Bass, basswood or paulownia body, let me know.

Yes if you put it on a chair you will ruin the mutual coupling effect that the floor gives and loose a lot of the bottom end. THe stagg stand works but oumight need some velcro on the head.
