  1. In my experience the X range is now way behind the curve and also needs a thorough update. The mic preamps could be updated and to be fair, they would be better off using only the Midas and Turbosound names for serious kit. Their Behringer DSP Speakers have an awful reputation for reliability.
  2. What is the tension like on the Elites?
  3. I mentioned in another thread that I used to love the Picato Groundwounds. As I remember it these were made at Picato in Wales. I may be wrong but I think they were based in Treorchy. I understand that the Welsh facility closed some years ago and PIcato strings are now made by another UK company? I found this on Wikipedia but it is not really that enlightening. "Picato Musicians Strings has been owned by Strings And Things Limited since the early 1980s when it acquired the business of General Music Strings Limited, the original founders. General Music Strings Limited was established in the 1940s by the Stein family and by the 1970s were prolific British producers of strings for acoustic, classical, electric and bass guitars; as well as banjo, mandolin, ukulele and violin. It was during this period that Tony Iommi lost the tips of two of his fingers in an accident and the Picato company designed an extra low gauge string set (.008" - .032") especially for him.[1] At that time Picato strings were used by many famous rock guitarists and bassists such as Ritchie Blackmore,[2] Roger Glover,[3] Tony McPhee and Eric Clapton[2] to name just four." Any more info?
  4. Have just bought new strings so these would have to wait anyway. Interesting but judging by La Bella prices usually they are a tad high. Like TI's, I am not willing to pay out that much for a string I may not like.

    Still puzzled, What was this?
  6. No rounds.
  7. Totally agree, mine is one piece although the protection it offers for the price, if it is the same. Still make it a good buy.
  8. Good call, you will have to pay a lot to better those pickups.
  9. I agree totally. I was just commenting that this is not usual from Sire.
  10. With my M2, the passive/active volume was so close that if you set the preamp flat in active mode, you cannot hear any difference. Maybe it is a new preamp, inexperienced operators or just loose QA from a growing company?
  11. The Thomann one looks a bit weird with the contrast between the body and the neck. I wonder whether this is first shipment-itus. Where the production lines are set up but not run in a production setting. Now the problems with the production line are coming through. At Panasonic, the first run was always used to supply sales companies and distributors with demo stock providing there were no real problems. If that went OK, full production started in month 2.
  12. Mott the Hoople were hyped almost as much as Springsteen back in the day, if memory serves me well.
  13. If I had been in charge of that scrip, I might have suggested a few changes but then he is fecking right. I should add that I spent almost 50 years in various roles in TV as well as a short stint in pro audio. So it is like hearing nails down a blackboard recorded at 96KHz though a megawatt PA system to me. Just pedanting saying 😠
  14. The reason TVs are now 16:9 because that is pretty close to our real vertical and horizontal view from our eyes.
  15. Me too, the J bridge on my P/Js are rarely above a whisper and on the Sire M2 the bridge pup is barely used although both pups on that are under review. I never use the Js solo'd.
  16. Nice sound and great bass tone but why do people hold their phones in portrait mode when shooting video? 😕
  17. Just for reference, DiMarzio suggest slightly different pot values and laws. See pdf attached or go to https://www.dimarzio.com/wiring-diagrams/p-bass-style for more options. I had a long exchange via email with their tech section when I fitted their pups to my bass. The suggest Log or their own "special" pots but I can say that the tone control works better than the standard suggested wiring diagrams. The volume pot is 500K log and the tone is 250K log. Use 470K or 220K if you cannot get 500/250. Model P Wiring 8_23.pdf
  18. Those are DiMarzio pups and the addition of the DiMarzio pots seems to confirm that. I love those cream pickups.
  19. I have now got my Newtone Platinum Round Cores but I am loathe to change new strings. Any info about these Cobalt Rounds? Your you experience with them would be appreciated.
  20. Presumably that means that from the returns or aux inputs you get a much lower THD figure, more in line with the power module's base specs?
  21. I havwe decided to change the cheaper TGI one. Looking at all the better lower cost bags, they all have too many pockets for me. The great thing about the TGI Extreme is that it has one flat pocket and is really quite slim. I value my cuddly toys at home to keep them from the ruffians we play to. The TGI Transit are cheaper but offer little protection while the TGI Ultimate is up there with the major" brands at £129. I have a Hiscox hard case for those journeys that need more protection.
  22. I have never heard any real low end from a PJB cab. Is it just me?
  23. Add to that a tort Precision pick guard.
  24. Still having troubles logging in on my mobile. I will keep trying but it is very annoying.
  25. Yes it looks like an early cheap Japanese bass with that pickguard.
