  1. Had these been available a few months ago I would have been in like a shot but the coffee went all over my laptop keyboard….. Other things have also depleted the GAS fund😭
  2. The KZs have a bit of a smiley face EQ so are a tad bass heavy compared to some ear buds.
  3. I can hear so many influences there but it also sounds very fresh. Congratulations.
  4. This is good to hear. I have heard good things about Surrey Amps and it sounds like Mesa/Gibson are doing things properly. I have never spent that much on an amp but the support really adds value.
  5. Me too. I still have my Pentels but the drawing board is long gone. 😀
  6. probably a better bet? I wonder why they say just SS amps?
  7. Sorry, I thought I had posted pictures:
  8. That is the one (two actually) that I use.
  9. That is a good choice except that it has a built in mid scoop. I use the Orchid Classic and it is great. it does take the signal to the PA as it comes form your bass but it sound lie it would suit you well. I have a couple and could lend you one for a week or two.
  10. That was the bass that got me hooked, even though I never owned one, my mate at apprentice school had one plus a WEM 40 watt stack.
  11. My band has bass guitar, two guitars, vocals and an acoustic drum kit. The drummer is not a loud player, do you think a single sub would work in that scenario?
  12. I agree about using a Mic Mechanic but I am not sure that can correct everything. Is the singer standing close enough to the mic? This would allow you to reduce the gain. Evox8 is one of the new generation of mini line arrays plus sub. These “sub on a stick” systems often have the HF/mid driveway slightly different horizontal angles such that the reflections that cause feedback are coming back to the mics at different angles, this is supposed to reduce feedback. I wonder whether, by using the Alto cab too, you are tending to negate the one real benefit of the Evox8? No real science behind these thoughts though.
  13. Of us. Long time since I used an X18. What vocals are too quiet? FoH or monitors?
  14. Phil will be along soon I am sure but, as you may know, the 8” design was originally an extension cab for my supercharged Ashdown After 8. I know Phil was looking to change the shape slightly ( a cube is not ideal). For memory, just a few cm taller. However I know that Mr Starr has just joined a new band and is giving with the old one so there has been some delay. Just for reference, the original cab is a delight it really does sound good. I use it at home together with an Ashdown Retroglide 800. I sometimes wind it up while herself and next door are out. 😀👍🎶 I do not feel as though it it lacking much even compared to many 10s. Again, for reference, the updated After Eight was fitted with a P-Audio 8” medium speaker but that has been discontinued (the Basschat speaker curse?). Although heavier, it has a ceramic magnet, the Fane is a nice driver and the weight will come down as the new cab will be either 15 or 12mm Poplar core ply. Phil will elaborate shortly.
  15. The dead spot of of a super or hyper cardioid is approx 120 degrees. The cardio pick up pattern is also three dimensional (think of an apple). The rear of the microphone does have a fair amount of pick up as there is a small but noticeable lobe at 180°. This is why you should not put a monitor speaker directly in line with a super or hyper cardiod microphone. Popular super or hyper cardiod include, Shure Beta 58A, Sontronics Solo ( I use these) and Sennheiser E865 and E945.
  16. TWEETER: piezo. Look through these pages and those on TB and you will find threads about removing/replacing Markbass piezo tweeters. The problem is not the piezo tweeters per se, rather the crossover or lack of it. Despite what Motorola said about piezos not needing a crossover, they do.
  17. I had the first gig with my Monza last night. I have been using LFSys cabs since they started, going through the Silverstone then Monaco and now the Monza. There is nothing wrong with the other two cabs, but my old arms need a lighter cab these days. The 11kg is fine, and it fits well in the boot (car, not the better half). I will do a review another time, but suffice to say I was not disappointed.
  18. Some idiot dug a gouge about 150 x 10mm long into a Hohner Jack bass that goes way below the finish and well into the wood. Any advice on the best filler and best way to refinish it? I would prefer not to have to strip the finish off completely.
  19. Yes, one of the reasons amplifier power is usually measure using a resistive* load and that speaker power ratings are a guide only. *There is no such thing as a purely resistive load as every component has resistance, inductance and capacitance to varying degrees.
