  1. The headstock and truss rod cover suggests Matsumoku, so early 80s I woiuld guess but I coild be way wrong as some things are not typical form Matsumoku. The P pup is ins a strange place.
  2. I rarely use the back straps and look for a bag that can either pack the straps away or remove them altogether.
  3. I would be interested to hear from one of our resident experts, I know @stevie have spent thosands of hours auditioning horn and compression drivers and i seem to remember that thw wrong horn can annihilate even the best compression driver. However according to @Phil Starr(I hope I am not mis-qouting him here) the crossover point is the cricial bit. 700Hz on the 732 against 1800Hz on the 915. The 1000-3000 KHz region is the critical area for vocals, especially female vocals and a goo design woill trt to crossover below that.
  4. From memory, the B&Q cuts are only guaranteed to be within +/- 5mm.
  5. The PAM series amps from DIODES Inc may be worth a look. Power is somewhat limited at 5V, as with any amp. I have never tried them as a bass amp but could try one with my Zoom B1Four and my 8" with a Fane lets you know. To be honest, 2–3 watts, is more than enough for home practice, although I think the sensitivity of the amp may be a problem.
  6. Well, I did have a speaker that had a jack socket that whistled. I heard the noise, tried everything and the solution was to use put a jack plug in the socket. I did some investigation and sealed sockets are very rare. I found that the Cliff range https://www.cliffuk.co.uk/products/jacksockets/s1k.htm these are available as part of the RS Pro range. Incidently, I have a few of these if anyone is interested. Amplifier modules are a can of worms unless you buy a "name". Even then, you need to know how to read the specs and how to get the best from them. So I will put the question back and ask some questions. Do you have a preamp? How much power, would you want to drive an extension speaker? Will it go inside the cabinet? How will you power it? If we go with your 30W power, I would go for a higher powered module and run it at a low power rail(s).
  7. Most power amps are for PA or Disco use and so have 2 channels. A preamp does not take up much room, hence bass amps are smaller. The smallest head I have used at that sort of power is the Ashdown Retroglide 800. It uses the same power section as the larger RM800, Mesa 800W heads and others, although Mesa do seem to squeeze more power from it than most. You could also look at the Harley Benton Block 800. It also uses the same power module and although many dismiss the pre-amp, it is a lot of power for the money. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_block_800b.htm
  8. Very sad. Looking back at the bash group photo, it’s nice to see that our last recorded memory was of him smiling-
  9. Also, easy on the echo/reverb and keep the EQ as flat as possible, remembering that boosting the EQ is the same as increasing the gain at selected frequencies.
  10. I would like to hear one. As I said I have not heard the RCF, and I am basing my opinion on Bose, LD and Yamaha.
  11. Warning possible flame war! I have to admit I have never used a Tea Chest Bass PA but as someone that watches both singers and bands any Saturday that I am not gigging, I am not too impressed. I should say at this point that I have not heard the EVO 8. I know the theory and it in practice it works to a point. The pros are, as I see it, Smaller, lighter gear Improved dispersal/ audience coverage Reduces feedback Reduced need for stage monitors The cons? Price, there is a price premium for stick on a box. There is a it suck in the response at some point and I have heard the various Bose, Yamaha and LD Systems units. I believe that in order to achieve the desired weight and size criteria, the crossover point is often too high. The reason is that the drivers in the “stick” are too small. The best system I have heard for a band in reasonable size is the one below. http://blue-acoustic.com/2023-g1-series/
  12. I will probably get hammered for this, but in general, Valve MI amps are noisier than solid state. It also looks like you have the MID SHIFT and BRIGHT engaged. BRIGHT often adds white noise to a sound.
  13. I do agree with Phil, but I have always had the view that the speaker should be uncoloured and the Eminence speakers do often have a cone breakup around the 2KHz-4KHz region. For example, the Basslite S2010 has dips/ troughs around 8dB difference. Now that is not to say that some people would not prefer the Eminence, however you could not easily tame the peaks and troughs with EQ if required.
  14. I remember discussing this driver with @Phil Starra few years ago now, and at that time we agreed to differ. The thing is that it modelled quite flat and at that time, from my hazy recollection, the received wisdom was that you needed a slight rise around the 120Hz region? Hopefully, Phil will chip in with his recollections. It is a ceramic magnet speaker, so not lightweight, but it still a good driver.
  15. Don't put that hobby horse in front of me and expect me not to mount it. However, yes, I believe many do not understand subwoofer placement.
  16. Yes, it could get messy, many sound injuneers don't understand these concepts and I would not pretend to be an expert. Then you have us weakened warriors, dependent on the marketing BS of the PA manufacturers.
  17. I am glad that we have not descended into a speaker size debate.
  18. The twist on the bridge looks to approximate the usual saddle settings. So although the bridge is not straight in the conventional sense, it probably works well with the saddles almost in a line.
  19. There is definitely a case for "It's not what you have, it is how you use it" with DSP as well as anything else. I have never bothered with an expression pedal but have had the B1ON and now the B1Four. Mechanically different but both bulletproof IMHO. TheB1Four has two advantages, it is quieter and has manual controls for Vol/Bass/Mid/Treb. I would probably still be using my B1ON if the B1Four had not come out. Finally, the Tuner on the B1FOUR is superb. Fast responding and accurate according to the Peterson App (the very best tuner under £100 is you discount the phone/tablet cost). Also, very easy to see on stage.
  20. Alt be Aux busses will probably not be able to supply the current. You could try it though as the outputs will be driven by opamps and they will be able withstand driving headphones without damage. They would most likely be too quiet for monitoring.
  21. I will accept £260 for the pair including covers. I will not reduce again.
  22. Oh dear I am getting an itch for a B6….If only they had called it The Spiral or The Oval. Maybe as they are called Zoom, they could produce a successor to the B1Four called the Pocket Rocket? A B6 MK2 called Basement Jacks. Off to take my pills now.
  23. I think you may have hit the spot there. Add the fact that they don’t have exotic sounding names.
