IAs you probably know by now, this project trundles on at its own pace. Today I wired up the amp modules to test that all was well. The protection lights for both modules came on and went off while the modules were settling down and a brief sound check on both was fine. As I was checking module B, I noticed that all the lights had gone out on module A. I checked everything But could not see the reason. Took it out and checked it out of the case.., all good but then when reinstalled it again was dead. Module A was the original module I bought and it has been on and out of the chassis, a new mains terminal block was fitted and it was the test module that has had lots of work done to it.I suspect it is something to do with the new mains terminal block. So I got my drill out, drilled mounting holes on the spare module and that is now installed as module A. The original module has been put on the “look at later” pile. All good now both modules working and now to start tha boring part, wiring. The switching arrangements are not that complicated but have added to the amount of wiring. I also need to make sure all the metal panels connect directly to earth. The black anodisation on the aluminium panels is not very conductive. I will take more pictures next time but it looks like a rats nest at the moment so that will wait.

In that enclosure I would be skeptical that you could get full power without active cooling via fans.

Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?
Chienmortbb replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
The 57-60 Les Pauls really created this one. However it is nothing to do with the age, the wood, it is the alnico pickups that slowly lost some of the initial magnetism giving a sweeter sound than a new humbucker. -

Probably but they did some great songs. -
Try telling someone that their ideas about tonewood are false......

The profanity filter changed my real word, that rhymes with duck into flip.

I do not usually swear online but for flip sake it’s a USB cable

Tylenol is basically paracetamol and generally considered ineffective against arthritis, however my partner believes in it and says it helps. She recently had a real problem with sciatica and was diagnosed Gabapentin. That made her sciatica a lot better but almost took the pain of her arthritis. However I believe this is a class A drug so not a long term solution.

70 too and would be gigging tonight but for the rhythm guitarist having Covid.

Probably not the iPads fault. The advice is always the same with the small digital mixers. Use an external router. I have had the problem with Soundcraft and Behringer mixers and have no reason to think that the M18 has a better router built in. I bought a simple TP Link 2.4 GHz router and it works fine and it works fine With my sound craft UI 16

Thanks for correcting me, I was a bit right. Incidentally it is common knowledge the Keith Richards has self medicated for several decades. I would repeat my warning about NSADs as my mum over-used Asprin and lost half her stomach in an emergency operation because of it. I use Pyroxicam on my fingers sometimes before I play and Voltarol ( Diclofenac ) gel if it’s really bad. However I don’t really suffer that badly and would agree that playing helps. If it starts early enough before a gig I just take Ibruprofen. I should stress though that although the episodes are becoming closer together, it is more than manageable for me. I had the op on my big toe about 10 years ago and I could barely walk before so I do know what chronic pain is.
-
Again I am not a Dr but in my experience Diclafenac is better that Ibuprofen but has that same issues. It is also an NSAD (as is asprin) and all have the side effect that if used unwisely to cause stomach bleeds and aggravate ulcers. You should take after meals on a full stomach to stop the tablet lying on the stomach wall. As for dosage. my daughter is a Nurse Practitioner. She tells me that the normal Ibuprufen tablets are 200mg and a normal dose is 400mg. However this is an average for adults and if you are on the larger side, you may need to got to 600mg. I have not heard of anyone taking more than that but I am not a Dr. A

That looks like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis does not cause the joints to swell like that normally.
-
I had that and had it operated on about 8 years ago. It takes a while to heal but I have hardly had any pain since, despite the surgeon saying he was operating for mobility not pain

What sort of size, weight and price are you looking at?

I cannot tell a lie, I am not Paul Page, Rue Paul or Jimmy Page. I apologise to the OP for my comment and the less than helpful comments that have resulted.

Mat-sush-ta If you had had to explain as many times as I have that there is no effing sheet in there only a mat. That is what the big M is on many components.
-
Of course working for Panasonic. te capacitors all had the big old M on them that meant they came from Matsushita Factories. For those that don't know Matsushita (pronounce Mat-Sush-Ta) was the Japanese name for National and Panasonic. Our only unreliable SMPSPSU on plasma displays was caused by an out of spec batch of semiconductors from another supplier.
-
You won't buy better cables.
-
I cannot see any reference to the drugs supplied to make you believe that a cable costing just south of grand will improve your sound. This is utter rowlocks.
-
That is crazy, pots can be replaced easily. They can be cleaned but sometimes this is a temporary measure.
-
It depends on whether they are properly specified. Many Chinese clones or copies of evaluation boards cut costs by using component brands that "overspecify". Companies like ICEPower do not scrimp on the components and that is why the DIY Audio forums are full of people whose module has blown shortly after powering up, There is no reason why a properly designed and manufactured Class D amp should be unreliable. TVs have been running with SMPS for around 20 years and with Class D amps (albeit lower powered) for almost as long. For example 65" plasma displays/TVs had 700-800W switch mode power supplies and were/are extremely reliable. Mine was 15 years old and working fine but I left it on the wall when I moved as it was too big for my new place. Incidentally I was Technical Manager for large screen displays at Panasonic Europe before I retired so I had access to reliability data.

As they say in the press, never let the truth get in the way of a good story. I have investigated and you can make up your own minds. As an example, the ICEPower 250ASX2 power module is £299.88 from Profusion in the UK. That is the power module in the Aguilar TH500 among many others. To replace the Mains transformer and power valves in an Ampeg SVT is £456 from Surrey Amps. An SVT output transformer is £297.46 from the Tube Amp Doctor in the USA (I could not find UK stock). To replace the 6 output vales/tubes (SOVTEK) alone on an SVT is £240 from Watford Valves.
-
Cold is the US terminology, in the UK it is called a dry joint. They can be caused by a number of things, including a soldering iron not having enough power to bring the solder and the parts to be soldered up to the correct melting point for the solder. However they are also caused by corrosion or grease on one of the parts to be soldered.

It is a compliment in a way that the cosmetic design of the Streamliner was such a huge influence on the Bugera M1001.
