Setting up a P Bass, Action and Nut Slots
Chienmortbb replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Repairs and Technical
I am just wondering whether a new nut such as a Graphtech TusqXL would be easier? Has anyone experience of these? -
Once for each string?

Setting up a P Bass, Action and Nut Slots

Nut files? The only decent ones seem to be the Hoscos at £80 per set. Unless you have other ideas I must gird the loins and steal some groats for the purchase. -

Minimum Watts required for small to medium pubs

I am not doubting the figures although without driving the same speakers, it is not easy to make a direct comparison. -
When you need to get a new bass-transmitter cable, you can use one with either the screw lock as Shure use or the other type as used by Sennheiser. The sockets on the transmitter should accept either. I keep both types in stock though if you need one.

Back Up Guitars- Do Your Guitarits Have Them?
Chienmortbb replied to Chienmortbb's topic in General Discussion
Small willy syndrome? -
This is inspired by the Back-Up bass thread but do guitarists always have a backup on stage in case a string breaks or just for different songs? We do not do any drop or non standard tuning. I have two guitarists in the band and both take a spare.

My active bass has a passive setting and the only time I have broken a string (I must try harder) was two nights ago with a set transfered from one bass to another. To be fair I was also setting up that bass so the strings were tightened an loosened a number of times but It has given me two points to take away, don't use secondhand strings and don't buy that brand again. The culprits Ernie Ball Cobalts Hybrids. I used to take two basses but as both out guitar players (see I can be nice) have two each, space is limited.

I always used the Fender settings for action however as I have an Aerodyne with a 7.5" radius I have been setting relief at 35 microns. I now realise that is not correct for flatter neck radii so will be adjusting all my other basses tomorrow. What settings do others use for relief? Nut Slot Depth, this can be measured by putting a capo at the third fret and measuring the height of the string over the first fret. What do others aim for and how do you measure it?

After Eighty - Small Ashdown Combo On Steroids
Chienmortbb replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Build Diaries
There are 4 screws on the back, these are black countersunk machine screws. These screw into the amp chassis. There are also 4 screws on the side, these are countersunk black woodscrews and they screw through the sides, into the back. -
Entertainment Licence Restrictions?
Chienmortbb replied to Chienmortbb's topic in General Discussion
AFAIA the previous licencee applied for the current licence. -
A couple have just taken over a pub in Bournemouth. They are advertising for acts to play there but only have a licence for up to three people. So solo, duo or trios. I have never heard of this before, Is this common?

Is the HB powerplant the battery one? I will be interested to hear whether there is any noise generated by the Stomp and fed around the power supply leads.

I have never thought that the wood added much to the sound, but if it does, the neck will paly a bigger part than the body IMHO as more of it is under the string. In saying that I am currently trying various PUPS in my G4M P bass a it sounds too bright. It is the only bass I own with an all maple neck!

So two EL34s can output more than 4 EL34s? -
Actually I have. I once had a 100m reel of Sommer 2.5mm Meridien speaker cable delivered. It had been dropped and the cable reel had broken. I had to untangle and unravel it then cut it into roughly 50m lengths. It was hard but by choosing much bigger loops than for shorter cables, it can be done. One of the issues with reeled cable is that it remembers how it was coiled on the reel and that makes it more difficult with new cable. However it was not a pleasant experience and I would not like to try it again.

I should add to this that I saw Glenn Hughes as part of Black Country Communion at the Apollo. Full backline for him and Joe Bonnamassa (2 Orange AD200 stacks for bass and two Marshall stacks for Bonnamassa). Sound up in the gods was superb.

Like any other cable, they should be coiled using the under/over method, even safer than coiling on a drum which puts its own stresses on a cable.

I have KZs and with the right memory foam tips, they fit me very well. I found the Comply tips the best but there are some on ebay/amazon that also work well. In saying that the Sennheiser 100s get a lot of love.

Little Muff....I'll get my coat!

I saw almost exactly that at a Glenn Hughes concert. Whenever the kick drum was hit, it obliterated the bass the vocals. Just because you can, does not mean you should!
