If you have little headroom as far as supply voltage you need an LDO (low drop out regulator). I use the Linear/Analogue LT1085. It is a bit overspec’d for your use but it would work well on your application.

Anyone recognise this rack case/know similar models?
Chienmortbb replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Accessories and Misc
I can't remember the model number but that is an SKB rack. Unlike the original SKB rack cases, it was much shallower and had no rack strip on the back. THis was because it was specifically designed for racked effects/outboard that did not need the extra support. If remember the rack mount on the front was not using captive nuts but self tapping screws that screwed into a thick plastic faux rackstrip . However I also had a small SKB Mixer rack that had the faux plastic rack strip that so I may be wrong on that.- 9 replies

I have had an Epiphone guitar made in Japan around 1970 (yes i am that old) and it was superb, one of my "why did I sell that" I also had a Epiphone Les Paul a few years back that was awful, not a patch on the Harley Benton that replaced it. I would say that if the balance were not so awful, the Epiphone Thunderbird bass I tried, belonging to another band's bassist. would have been in my collection. Soi not brand snobbery, worried about quality consistancy.

My new band and plays pubs and when I turned up with my single 12 they all said I would need more. So second rehearsal I took my second cab and stacked them. However I did not connect cab 2. Everyone was happy with my sound. Then I showed them the unconnected cabinet. They all assumed that I needed a stack, based on the fact that previous bassists had all had them.

Nothing really except perhaps I have never really thought of Epiphione as a bass brand and I really don't nned another bass, at least untill I sell one or two.

Correct Bill. RMS volts x RMS amps = Average watts but who wants to put Average on a spec sheet. RMS Power is a bit like Democracy, its the worst way to spec a speaker/ run a country but it is the best we have got. OF course once you start driving an inductive load (speaker) you should be quoting VA but then you have t specify the speaker and that is another can of worms.

It should be OK if pointed at you from the front and not set up as backline IMHO. You can also roll off the deep bass a bit as you get plenty from the FOH. However you are right, if people go mad with their onstage volume when going through the PA, it is as bad as a bad sound technician.

I have to say that JC was probably my biggest inspiration to play bass ( and of course I loved Grace Slick). Listen to the bass on the live version of Somebody To Love from the Bless It's Pointed Little Head album*. Now back to the bass, ignore the colours, if you can, what makes this a great bass? I know the Tone circuit is unique but Gibson/Epiphone are not renowned for their bass pups. Tell me what I am missing. * Oh wow I just listened to it again.

Includes Postage. This is a great little amp. I have used it on a few gigs and lots of rehearsals. It is light 2.23Kg and quite petite. It is a good amp for small/medium gigs and at this power a step up from the Lord of the Rings amps (Elf, Gnome and BAM). Its a simple amp with no useless features. However it does have some useful features like a front panel aux level control that save you diving for your phone/ipod when you need to change the volume. The gain just turns up the volume for the first part of the travel then gradually brings in a nice amount of overdrive that really thickens up the sound. The tone stack is passive and pays homage to the old FMV passive tone stacks, think of the Fender Bassman tone stack. The Ashdown logo on the front lights up in a lovely blue but it does not show up on photos. You can just see the real blue reflected on the knobs in the pictures. Incidentally I changed the cream knobs for light grey ones. The speaker sockets are the combo Speakon/jack sockets. I am selling as I have too many amps and one has to go. Comes in original box and postage is included. Any questions, please ask. Often not given the cerdit she deserves. Many of us learnt lots of Carole's bass lines way before we knew about Jaco. Happy Birthday Carole.

Headphones capable of handling low octave frequencies
Chienmortbb replied to cLepto-bass's topic in Accessories and Misc
My wife had some (probably still in the wardrobe) I must dig them out ad have a listen. You never know it could be me that is wrong. As I always say, there is no point in having a mind if you are not prepared to change it. -

The ba Just because the bass is boosted on the beats headphones and I like my 'phones to be flat. -
What is the tension like on te Cobalt flats? I love flats but but find tge tension on some too much for my aging fingers,

I tend to stay away from Bose as teheir products are designed to "sound good" rather than accurate. A;os avoid Baets like the plague. -
Issue after fitting Retrovibe Stinger
Chienmortbb replied to Steve Browning's topic in Repairs and Technical
This is a copy of the original MM active circuit. Uncle Fluffy on TB has laid out a PCB and built several. -
I accidently wired my PJ with both pups in parallel(J pup was a humbucker). It sounded like a Telecaster (guitar not bass).

If anyone needs a lead with a silent plug on I can make one up for a small fee.

Some years ago, when I started going to open mic, the guys suggested I got an acoustic bass. I tried loads from inexpensive Ibanez to Taylor and Martins. None of them were worth playing without an amp. So |I bought a semi-acoustic. I played it for quite a few weeks but realised that I prefered playing my usual bass. Acoustic basses looked great on Unplugged but suck acoustically. Maybe we should call them hollow bodied.

The gain pot in the feedback path can work but you really need a fully active volume control which (from memory) needs two opamps. A full explanation can be seen here. The acive volume control was designed by Peter Baxandall who also designed the bass/tredle circuits use almost everywhere.

I like the chicken head knobs on the Minimax (Mk1) the nice thinks about them aid there is no doubt as to where they are set. The new Minimax MkII is £400+ Just to continue the sill pipe references, I hope it does not chuff too much.
