Welcome - and thanks for the beer!

I have an Squier Affinity P and I love it - I picked it up from Gmutree for £50. Stuck some decent pickups and tuners on it and it is great! It is not my 'go-to' bass but that is not due to the quality - more the fact that I tend to get on better with slightly slimmer necks. It has (as far as I know) a solid Alder body. The only thing that I think gives away the fact that it is a budget guitar (other than the 'Affinity' logo on the head), is the wood grain on the neck. You see some necks and they look amazing with lovely grain and chosen for their colour and patterning. This is not like that - it just looks like a lump of maple has been carved to the right shape with no regard for what the grain was doing. It doesn't look terrible - but you don't 'admire' it - if that makes any sense!?

Voluntary ban on myself in the Basses for sale section...

Window shopping is not for the weak willed and that includes myself! -
Thing is not everyone can live on good will, sometimes we need to pay for mortgages, food, petrol and any number of other things. Of course good will and charity have their place but the ad in the OP is clearly relying on someone else's talent given freely in order to make more money for someone who almost certainly isn't in need or passing the goodwill around. I'm sure that everyone of us have given either time, money or both for charity or those genuinely in need, you seem to acting obtusely for the sake of it.
I don't know about more results but I can answer about your improvement idea Item for sale | Forum Bass effect pedals | Effects for sale Bridges, tuners, pickups, parts for guitar, rainsticks etc | Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Thanks!

Just sent him my Schaller Bridge Spacer. Top bloke, good communication and a pleasure to deal with!

Are there any more results to come from the survey? One example was what can be done to improve the site. My suggestion was to have a bass related 'musical items for sale' for things like bass effects pedals, bridges, tuners, pickups etc and a non bass related part for guitars, rainsticks and everything else.

Damping the bass boom in a practice room
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Count Bassy's topic in General Discussion
You could try buying an old mattress and sawing it almost in half and standing it in the corner. Might want to fabreze and throughly vacuum it first! -
Subject to Mrs Rotten - count me in. I will bring along my decoupage bitsa P bass for people to see.

Squier Precision MIC re-birth * FINISHED!*
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Jonnyboy Rotten's topic in Build Diaries
Thanks Anthony! I have a confession to make! On Saturday at about lunchtime we hung up the guitar to dry overnight. However I got impatient and rang my mate that evening and asked if he was up for putting the guitar together as it had been 'long enough'! So I went back over to his and started putting it together. We didn't manage to find the strap end pin hole in the end so we drilled a new one just off centre to make sure we didn't accidently just end up enlarging the existing one (wherever it is!). My Mate having a play... Yeah!!.... In the end we didn't use the spacer that came with the Schaller bridge as it has a lovely low action to it. The SD pups are same as before - tight and powerful with a good punchy sound. So I was able to play it a church yesterday morning and I loved it! Not sure what else to say! I was a little disappointed that the project had come to an end, but there is no reason I couldn't upgrade the neck or something else in the future but I don't want to over do it for the sake of it! Here's to the next project.... -

Squier Precision MIC re-birth * FINISHED!*
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Jonnyboy Rotten's topic in Build Diaries
So... This morning and afternoon I have been spraying my bass with nitrocellulose lacquer. I started taping off the pickup and control cavities with electrical tape. We then screwed the body to a piece of wood to hold it up like a massive Precision shaped lollipop. And the spraying began. Because it was sunny and am the nitro seemed to dry almost immediately. We probably gave it about 8 coats altogether with drying times of 30-40 mins in between. -
Ooo that looks lovely! I was wondering what would happen to that neck!
Rickenbacker basses have narrow string spacing, as do Musicman 5-strings and their relations (OLP etc).
Yep - my OLP 5 String has a string spacing of 16.25mm IIRC
this thread has inspired me to dig out my old thunder 1a from the loft, it has been defretted in a very messy way so im thinking with a little work i might become an 8 string (octave obviously), throw in some strenghening rods, a new fretboard, leds and a schaller 8 string fully adjustable bridge that i just happen to have lying around and one of these to top it all off TheXtender 4 HE
Keep us posted in 'Build Diaries' - sounds very exciting!
Full time bass players don't use cheap copies. Why is this?
I agree with pretty much everything you say but in answer to your question, some of it is of course because of the quality and sound but I think some part of it is so that you get taken seriously as a musician. You could get a nice US Fender, sand off the Fender decal and stick a Westfield or Squier decal on in it's place and anyone who couldn't tell what you had done, would probably not take you seriously as a professional musician.

It seems they are as careful with their customers details as they are with their guitars!

What have you got GAS for at the mo?
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to action_panzer's topic in Bass Guitars
Currently hankering after a Dingwall Combustion or Sandberg P in the black finish with the MM humbucker in the bridge position. Seen one on here and it is rather beautiful! -

I bought a single power supply unit off ebay which came with a 5 way daisy chain cable so I could power my multi effects unit as well as my korg pitchblack poly. I found that if I used the power supply in either pedal on its own it was fine but as soon as I used the daisy chain it introduced a sort of whistling sound. So in the end I just use two power supplies and not bother with the daisy chain. (I don't have a cable to try the power output on the pitchblack unit). If I was to get anymore pedals I would probably invest in a decent multiway which is purpose built to avoid noise and intereference.

Squier Affinity jazz or P, Westone Thunder, Stagg or yamaha could be good bets but I guess it depends on what you wanna do to/with it!
