1.
There have been a few discussions on here about the value of changing pots. I used to be of the opinion that it was worth doing, now I'm not so sure. I would now say that it really does depend on the condition of the old ones. If there's no crackling when you adjust them, the cables all look good, the solder joints all look neat with no excess bare wire at the joins etc, then I'd say leave them alone if everything works ok. However... on a good number of basses I've had to work on I've found the capacitor in the wrong place. So if you've bought a s/hand bass it's worth looking to see if someone not so skilled has "improved" it.
Good advice! Thanks... There is no crackling and both pots turn smoothly and seem to work fine (though I haven't checked the wiring yet) so its probably ok just to leave them in for now and get those SD pup bad boys wired in..
 2.
Are you sure? A second class parcel is £2.60.
Read the delivery terms....I tried to post a screenshot but it won't let me for some reason.
 3.
The first item says ask seller for delivery options. The second item is £4.95 for standard delivery and £9.95 for next day delivery. You can't get a lead for £1.50!
Correction - the ebay one is free 48hr delivery within the UK.
 4.
It's great to see it back on track and picking up again :-)
Mrs Rotten is also happy to have the space in the dining room back!
 5. Bump for some pup & wiring help...
 6.
The first item says ask seller for delivery options. The second item is £4.95 for standard delivery and £9.95 for next day delivery. You can't get a lead for £1.50!
Of course you can! You never said you wanted it delivered!
 7.
I would be surprised if you can buy one for £1.50. B&Q £4.99 Maplins £10.99 I can't think where else you'd get one less than a fiver. 8.
Very nice to meet Jonnyboy, here's one taken by the present Mrs 4Strings as an option The bass will hopefully be a-groovin in the next shot
Best of luck with the gig(s) Greg! Was lovely to meet you both - Hope you raise lots of money!
 9. Ok Guys! The baton is well and truly handed. Mrs 4Strings took a better photo but here is one in the meantime!
 10.
Fascinating! Well, OK... quite interesting anyway... And what (if anything) does IEC stand for? International Electrical Connector or something similar? The things you learn on Basschat!
International Electrotechnical Commission.... here....fill your boots - FYI a true kettle plug is IEC C15/C16 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320 Keep asking - there is more where that came from....or are you begging for mercy! mwahahahha!
 11.
Thank you for not saying "Kettle lead".
We specify them in PDU (Power Distribution Units) for clients' installations day in Day out. More Specifically it is IEC C13 (female) socket on the mains lead and where it plugs into, on the amp is called IEC C14 (male). Hello...? Hello...? Oh sorry, I thought you might be interested !
 12. I would be surprised if the amp did not come with a cable but I wouldn't be fussed if it didn't, you can pick up UK to IEC mains lead dead easy for a few quid.
 13. I guess the shower head attachment means that when you are playing in those small/grotty venues and your hands get a bit sweaty or clammy, you can rinse them off in the middle of a set without interrupting the music!
 14.
Incidentally, can anyone explain how you can look at a piece of sawn wood and confidently announce that it was done with a "surgical saw"?
Agreed - Plus the assumption that the tool used means automatically that the work has been done properly. You could give me all the tools to re-fret a guitar but I would not describe the resulting job as having been done 'properly'!
 15.
That's pretty much my ideal SR5
+1
 16. Here is a rather fetching [s]selfie[/s] shelfie Taxi!!!
 17. Gteat colour...I cant work out if it is blue, grey or green! Even the it seems to have some brown and gold in it too!
 18.
It's nearly hand over time :-)
Yep, I am meeting 4Strings at South Mimms Services this evening!
 19. You can also get this very thin tape which is designed to be wrapped around screw thread. When the screw is err screwed into the hole, the tape binds and provides more friction and also fills any small gaps there may have been before. I can't remember what its called but it is similar in principle to plumbers tape to water-seal screw threaded pipes.
 20. Just taken delivery of a set of Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pounders to replace the stock Squier Affinity units. When I played the Basschat charity relay Baton recently I was impressed with how good it sounded given that it was a £150 Stagg. That was fitted with a set of P/J Seymour Duncans (not sure which ones) so they made it to the top of my list. Next thing I need to work out is - do I change the pots at the same time? If so then... I am fairly sure that, at some point in the next few months, I want to add another set of P pickups nearer the bridge as this seems quite uncommon, though not unheard of, and everyone who has done it says the sound is amazing. So if I was to replace the stock Affinity Pots now (I am looking at you for advice and possibly a wiring loom KiOgon!) then should I get perhaps a stacked tone/ pup balance pot and a volume and leave one of the stacks disconnected until the additional pickups are fitted? Any help or advice anyone can offer would be appreciated. As I'm not really sure what is possible or worth doing in one go rather than piecemeal
 21. I got a set of D'addarios on my Ibby SR300 and as it was my first bass I didnt know any better but my guitary mates said they were a good brand. I have a set of DR black beauties on my P bass and they feel great. Like they are coated in smooth teflon or summat.
 22. Wow...hard to believe it is older than me! Looks like its a three or four years old!
 23.
It's always such a shame when someone like Andy retires without someone to pass it all on to. All that knowledge and experience, all gone
Yeah you would have thought he would sell on the business or train up someone to take his place. His business is clearly worth a fair bit in good-will alone. It seems a shame it wasn't carried on. Oh well. Best of luck to him and his circumnavigation of the British isles!
 24. Hello and welcome!
 25. No takers? I will be in Nottingham next weekend if anyone wants to use the baton? 4Strings wants it within a couple of weeks though.
