New Bass Day...My First Foray into 5 Strings!
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Jonnyboy Rotten's topic in Bass Guitars
I've no idea. I tend not to bother analysing much. I just work on the premise that if I change something on my rig and it sounds better and it doesn't impact the way I play then it's a good move. Moving to flats was a good move for me. Isn't that what you want?
Yes - I would like it to be a bit taughter, but given my question and that you suggested flats, I was just wondering if you suggested flats because they are less flappy than equivalent rounds or it was just a random (but welcome) suggestion! -
New Bass Day...My First Foray into 5 Strings!
What about flats? I put Lakland flats on my 5 string Lull Pbass and it went from a great tone to another level of great tone.
do flats tend to be taughter than rounds?
Pretty sure I had a 130 on the B of my OLP MM3 when I had it.
Thanks for your helps, sounds like 130 is the one! -
They really are great instruments, I have an mm4 (silhouette guitar) and its brilliant! I was all about 125 b strings when I first started on fives but my rays do work best with a 130 imo, green pack of ebmm ones being the obvious choice
These ones? : http://www.ernieball.co.uk/p/regular-slinky-5-string-bass-nickel-wound-045-130?pp=8 -
Shurely that should be an Epiphoney about basses? Yep!
I bought this OLP today for £150 and it is truly beautiful. Been noodling on it and it is great. However some advice would be appreciated as the B string is a bit flappy and I think it could do with heavier gauge. What gauge do other people use?
I can't stand them. Hate the sound & the feel of them (I really dislike oiled or waxed finishes on any bass), and I also think they are the ugliest range of basses I've ever seen - the Corvette is just an abomination IMO. The only decent model shape they have they quite literally nicked from Stuart Spector
Im not their biggest fan but how can you call them an 'abomination' compared with some of the stuff you can buy?!

My Dad plays a Warwick corvette. I think it is a lovely piece of kit but I wouldn't have one because of the weird top horn that seems to stick out at a funny angle. I don't think anyone thinks they are rubbish but they do have marmite aesthetics.

Trick ...how to get new strings in 10 minutes....
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to John Cellario's topic in General Discussion
"Sweat & Dung kills the strings" And you haven't "literally slapped the Sh*t out of the strings". If you had you would need a bath and the guitar would need a bath too. -
Something pointy like a bc rich warlock or explorer I guess?

LostProphets - The inevitable end
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I think in some ways they were ahead of their time and became a bit like the UK version of Linkin Park in terms of mainstream appeal for a band which before would have been considered relatively niche. I think in many way the whole Emo/ teen metal culture kind of spawned of the back of bands like Lost Prophets. Great shame about the whole singer debacle as clearly no one comes off well even if he is found innocent. And of course then there are the victim(s).... -
Squier Precision Chrome & Black Special Edition
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Jonnyboy Rotten's topic in Bass Guitars
Mmm...I thought this was a special edition in the 'standard' range, so in between the Affinity & VM ?
If it sits between the VM and Affinity then prob not worth it. - Better to get a VM eh? -
I have come across a special edition Squier Precision Chrome and Black Edition for sale: I have a Squier one already but I am seriously considering swapping it for this as I love the colour matched headstock, jazz neck and option of jazz pickup. Are they any good? Will it be much of a difference/step up from my Squier Affinity Precision? Anyone got one or played one can give some thoughts and comparisons of where in the squier line up it sits. If not I will wait and get a VM jazz or summat.

Leather clad Precision?
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Jonnyboy Rotten's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
You'd think they'd have covered the neck as well...?
Euggh can you imagine playing a bass with a leather neck? It would make it quite difficult to play as your hand wouldn't slide against it very well. -
Not a fan of the studs but I can't say I hate the leather texture. It should be studded round the back if you ask me. +1 to all the "you are either a nutter or genius" type posts - I personally am veering to towards genius at the moment but it isn't finished yet!

Lovely looking bass - good colour choice! Did you add the pup cover or is that standard too?
