Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
I guess I already know the answer to this but when I bought my Ibby SR300 it came with a free Ibanez branded padded gig bag (which wasn't mentioned in the spec so it was a pleasant surprise when I received it). Have any of these decoration basses also come with a gigbag/padded case? -
Ibanez SR300 in Roadster Orange Bitsa/Homemade Squier P I did have three but I sold my OLP MM3 5 String just after Christmas.
If your wife doesn't go to the gigs, I wouldn't advertise the fact that you're going to take your wedding ring off to go play music in public. Sends the wrong sort of signal, I fear
hehe! No I mean't when I practice and occasionally I forget to put my wedding ring on! I'm certainly not saying that I deliberately take it off to go gigging! In fact the only band I am in is my Church band so I was just making a joke!

Spotify, very very impressed, anyone else use it ?
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I love Spotify - I like being able to share hidden gems of music with my friends who also use it and subscribe to playlists they make. I have created a public playlist which has a grand total of 50 followers! Pretty cool! The offline feature is very good and invaluable to people who commute on the tube where there is no signal or in more patchy reception areas. Offline tracks have a timer - you have to go online and connect to the Spotify servers within 30 days of download. If you don't connect (or you connect and haven't paid your subscription) then they will stop working automatically. -
Congratulations! I never played bass before I got married but I have played bass since without my wedding ring on and it makes no difference! You will notice when gigging that the only thing women pay less attention to than a bass player, is a bass player with a wedding ring!

Mate of mine doing rather well on The Voice - David Cage
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Good luck to David! In series 3 of the Voice UK an acquaintance of mine called Adam (he had long hair and was a rock singer) made it through to the sing off/duel stage, I have a feeling he lost the sing off but then he was 'rescued' by one of the other judges and stayed in for a bit longer. He used to sing in a band several of my mates played in in the Aylesbury area. -
I would LOVE to make a bass guitar like this!
I've been using glow powder in clear casting resin for many years now with great success. I've made garden 'lights' which are still glowing strongly 8 years after they were first made.
Excellent! Sounds like its time to try this on a bass body then! -

Does it work like normal glow in the dark stuff where it would be brightest just after you turn the lights out and gradually get dimmer? Do you reckon it would lose effectiveness over time and be barely visible in say five years time? -
How cool! ? http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/12/glow-tables-by-mike-warren/

FWIW: I ordered a Korg Pitchblack about 7 or 9 months ago and the unit made a loud and unpleasant popping noise through the amp everytime you pressed the pedal switch. Sent it back and had it replaced. However, the replacement unit now does the same thing and as I can't remember where I bought it from (and can't find my reciept etc) Korg won't do anything to help me. Won't be buying one of them again.

I don't know if this has already been posted but it gave me a laugh and I thought I would share it. Here's the first one to get you in the mood: [b] 1. I can't really hear the difference in the second comparison but the first and last one, the first one appears to have a warmer, tighter and more muffled tone and the second seems slightly more broadly toned with a little more 'bite'. I prefer bass 1 in the first comparison and bass 2 in the last one (I can't tell the difference in the second comparison!).

Hey guys/gals I have been looking for a few years for a compact way of getting good sound from the TV but also from our phones/spotify etc. I have always assumed soundbars weren't that good and we don't have room for a surround sound system. However I went round a mates the other day and he had a Polaroid branded soundbar which had bluetooth which was great inside, but then when we went into the garden he simply unplugged the mains and plugged it into his shed and it sounded great even outdoors. I asked him how much it was and he said £50 from Tesco! I had no idea you could get such full sound with bluetooth for that money and being able to take it with you into the garden for a BBQ is the icing on the cake. I thought he was going to say it cost a couple of hundred! My question really is that I have been looking around and for between £50 and £90, new and second hand, you can have the option of a separate subwoofer with some brands (LG and Phillips I think). I was wondering if you decide to not use the sub when you take the unit outside etc, would the sound lose something or would the soundbar re-adjust the eq levels to compensate. The reason I ask is that some models don't have a sub with them but they have the option to add one. So that would make me think that they have adjusted EQ otherwise they would probably sound rather thin and tinny if they were designed for a sub but didn't have one or with too much bass* and muffled if you added a sub without changing the EQ? I'm not really looking to spend much more than £50-80 so the "I think you might need to increase your budget a little" won't really be that helpful as I have heard this little polaroid jobby that was pretty impressive! But any help or recommendations would be appreciated! *I realism this is not the best forum to be talking about too much bass!

Welcome mate. That's why it's YOUR bass! It probably is wrong for your mate to learn on it. If it makes you want to pick it up and play then it is 'the one'!
I send a reply back telling him I'll refund his £100 later that evening. Within an hour, I get a notification on my For Sale thread along the lines of "you owe me £100, and although I don't like airing dirty laundry in public, I will do if you don't pay it back now". Sigh. So, not only did I lose 4 other buyers, not only did I hold onto a bass for a couple of weeks longer than necessary due to a time waster, he then had the audacity to try to make me out to be the bad guy on my sale thread. Knob. Incidentally, I subsequently chatted to someone else on here about time wasters, and the very same guy had done exactly the same thing to them. Luckily, the person in question stopped being active on here, otherwise I'd have had no problem in outing them.
Isn't the whole point of a deposit the fact that it is non-refundable (unless the seller is exceptionally generous) so that it forms a gentleman's contract to buy? If I had given a deposit and then not been able to buy due to my circumstances - I would certainly regret handing over the deposit but I would not expect the seller to return it to me. If he did that would be a bonus but I would think he would be within his rights to keep it. Otherwise it sort of defeats the object of the deposit. If the seller changed his mind and decided not to sell after the deposit was given then it should be returned to the buyer, but otherwise I would not expect it.
