'Cutting through' versus 'sitting in' the mix?
Adrenochrome replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
I want to cut through with plenty of upper-mid grind . I can also play really gently and sit in the mix with the same settings. I'd actually rather do this than have to crank my amp to ridiculous levels cos the boominess is barely audible (like a lot of bassists do). -
Welcome! (careful though, there's a lot on here that think bass hasn't moved on since 1951 )

Had a good experience with selling to Matt, good comms, recommended

Utterly gutted, quit the band last night
Adrenochrome replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Oh dear Even if it was the correct decision it sounds like it's taken a lot out of you. I'm lucky in that I've never come off badly from any band splits. -
I'm usually struggling to stay awake to be honest

With the purchase of Steve pikeman's 4x10 cab this is now not required. Ashdown MAG 210T deep cab 8ohm / 250 watts power handling Ashdown Blueline drivers. Both 1/4" jack plus Neutrik type input sockets. Made in China. Mainly used as an extension cab. Some road wear (including crack to the port housing, pictured below) but functionally in very good condition. Collection only from Harrogate, or I'll deliver FREE in Harrogate/Bradford area at a time to suit by arrangement (likely on the way to practice/gig). £95 ono

I picked up Steve's 4x10 cab from his missus this lunchtime. A really good person to buy from, and the arrangement of the handover was very useful as it saved me much money in courier costs or fuel, so very much appreciated. Jon
Hideous things though aren't they. No feedback at all. I prefer the yellow Dunlop Tortex triangles these days. Enough durability, three points, and flexible enough to give you some feedback from your fingers.
I really don't mind them - although I understand what you mean about them being very stiff. I use a 0.76mm Ultex which has just enough flexibility for me, and feels similar to a 1mm+ Tortex. If caught without a pick I seem to manage with whatever guitar pick I can find, so maybe a bit of my preference is just habit.

Looks a bargain? Ashdown 220W 1x12 Combo £299
Adrenochrome replied to KiOgon's topic in Amps and Cabs
I wonder if it'd drive an extension cab? Could be neat amp for practice then add a cab for gigging... -

We did do "In Believe In A Fing Called " by t'Darkness which I loathed but currently nothing. If I'm doing a paid dep gig, then everything is fair game I'll play it with a smile. -
£33 to see what is really only a covers band
Adrenochrome replied to Blademan_98's topic in General Discussion
£100 for the full night out is quite a bit of cash - I didn't go to a proper paying gig at all in 2011, first time in 25 years. -

Adrenochrome replied to Blademan_98's topic in General Discussion
I saw them about 10 years ago and it was one of the very best shows I've been to in my life. Price was a fair bit less then... I'd rather see them than the real thing due to cost and also the real band not having Roger in. No offence at all to Guy who is a fantastic bass player. -

Regular cuts on fingers, skinned knuckles and trapped skin from dragging huge/heavy old PA system into tiny pubs.
-
Dunlop Ultex are far more hardwearing than the usual soft plastic picks. I get a few months wear out of them.

All good advice /\
On eBay you regularly see Peavey/Trace 4x10s going for peanuts.
True, a decent Peavey 4x10 went on ebay last night for ~£102 - I might have had a bid myself had it not been at the wrong end of the country.

There are few hard and fast rules. 10s can sound muddy, 15s can sound bright - it's all in the cab design. The overall sensitivity of the cab can be a better guide to how much sound you're going to get than the number and size of the drivers. I'd get reading some reviews as a starting point, and ask specific questions about particular brands and models.

In my opinion - yes. A lot more speaker area is probably the most relevant thing, and you can get a cheap cab for next to nowt 2nd hand. Of course it depends on your circumstances and what you need the rig for.
