1. I thought it sounded great! I only had a quick listen on my laptop so can't really comment on the mix.
2. You're welcome to borrow my 1x15 if needed. I'll be using it at a gig in Stocksbridge on Friday, however returning it to Harrogate would be quite a treck for you.
3.
Anybody had any major QC issues with these cheaper far Eastern instruments?
No, not at all, and I've had a few.
4.
Noise limiters. Most of you have obviously suffered from old cut-off noise level devices. 20 years ago that's all we had to work with. Anyone remember the Electronic Orange. These things are obsolete. The modern stuff incorporates a level setting with a headroom control. More of a noise compressor/squasher. They don't cut off, just trim off the peaks above the headroom threshold. Far better for control and far better for equipment. Take a look at the Formula Sound Sentry Mk11 and the AVC2 at -
Problem is that pubs don't seem to be using that kind of equipment. We played "a well known biker pub" in Leeds in December and as soon as our vocalist opened her mouth to soundcheck the power switched off. The landlord told us to plug our PA into another circuit and we proceeded to have a great gig with no further issues.
5.
Has anyone else noticed that Grolsch washers seem to have changed over the years? I copped a load on a night out about 6 years ago and they seemed to be different - more plasticy than the rubbery (if that makes sense) type I'd grabbed years before. They don't seem to grip the strap button quite as well as the older ones. A case of the vintage ones being better?
Maybe you should 'relic' some of the new ones and sell them for a fortune?
6. I'll definitely be there, might not stay until the end, depends how chaotic thing are at home.
7. Well, in some ways I'm a fairly experienced player - yet in other ways I'm really a beginner (never had lessons, probably very sloppy technique). I would regularly read a beginners' forum. Having quite a bit of gigging and some recording experience I reckon I'd contribute in areas where I could (eg budget gear good enough for gigging).

Hi

Welcome! Are you anywhere near Cleethorpes? We have our first gig there at the Fiddler later this month.
9. Well despite being often slagged off on here, I've had my Ashdown MAG 300r for almost 5 years of faultless operation without being serviced. It's played 200+ long gigs and many more rehearsals than that. It has been fantastic for the money!
10. +1. Check it's all working right before you splash the cash as I'm surprised you can't get much clean volume at all.
11. Welcome! Tha bash is in the afternoon, you could do both p'raps? [even I've had my leave application approved by the mrs for at least part of the day]
12.
Ok, I'll start with the Zoom BFX708 (Yes, the plastic one).
Mine was great and lasted 9 years of gigging and rehearsal before finally starting to fall to bits. Hence why I'm after a Zoom B1 or B2 now... I have an old Peavey 1x15 cab (black widow speaker) that I've had a similar amount of time. It sounds great, and has more top end than most people expect. It sounds better than my newish Ashdown 2x10.
13. Looks okay to me? E-bay will pull auctions if you even hint at not accepting Paypal, maybe that's why it was pulled first time.
14.
Well.... it's probably more to do with the efficiency of the cabinet your using..
Possibly - although I have tried it with all my cabs, just my perception. It's also really a guitar head! Quite versatile for a £49 head to use for practice and to have as a spare. I've even driven passive vocal monitors with it in the past.
15. Could it be that Class D amps might not sound as loud as you'd expect from the ratings? I've got a Crate Powerblock rated at 150w that I use for practice and occasionally for guitar. For either use it doesn't seem that loud [and yes it is supposed to give 150w into 8ohm when bridged]. I realise 'loudness' is largely down to perception.
16. I don't usually like white basses but with the maple neck and tort pickguard it does have a certain purposeful look to it...
17. C is nicest looking, so I voted C. B would probably be the most comfy/ergonomic so depends what your priorities are.
18. RIP Ron. I will be playing I Wanna Be Your Dog tonight.
19.
the bloke who played the high basslines in Ned's Atomic Dustbin. (the other bassist played a stingray)
True! Alex played Peter Hook type melodies and chords while Matt did the traditional bottom-end stuff. Good fun live! My contribution - Jerry Only's heavily modified Rick in t'early Misfits.
20. I've done this before. IF the nut slots are 'V' shaped it MIGHT be possible to try it without modifying the nut. Also, when adjusting the intonation you might run out of room when taking the saddle back for the new B string.
21. Yup that amp runs at ~180w when attached to 1 x 8ohm speaker and ~307w when attached to 2 x 8ohm speakers (The ohm ratings on cabs are approximate). The main benefit is likely to be more speakers moving air and the top cab being near your ear level. The amp can send peaks of up to 500w, so probably best not to have volume on full with either or both speakers attached.
22. Tony, it took a while to load up (on our 6 yo laptop admittedly). Overall it was pretty good, I was very impressed with the audio. I might have to speak to Col when our new guitarist has got settled in.
23.
There are no restrictions, as the bar area/snooker club is seperate to our room. Young folk, WAGs/HABs and even gu*tarists are welcome!
Cheers, I'll still try and come on my own if possible. Jon
24. I know it's not ideal but any chance I could bring my eldest lad along? It may be the only way I can get there for most of the afternoon.
25. Hi, I'd definitely be interested in an XXL one from the next batch, and the colours are ace. I've already got about 20 black T-shirts so orange would be ace.
