1. This Peavey Millenium AC - £195 and an absolute delight to play at long gigs, decent pre-amp & pups too (same as Cirrus):
2. Cheers Tony, it was excellent. We didn't know if/when we'd get another opportunity like it so we were determined to make the most of it. The sub-zero temperatures were quite difficult for sleeping in the tent; the missus was NOT happy!
3. We played last night on the closing night of a big biker rally in Leeds. Overall it was the best/biggest gig we've ever done. It didn't start very well as the opening band overran and therefore we didn't get our promised soundcheck. However we did have a sound engineer just for our onstage monitor mix which is the sort of luxury I've never had before - and he put exactly what I wanted in my monitors ie my vox and some kick drum. The DJ playing in the gap before us was playing music like The Mission/Cult/Iron Maiden which set the tone nicely for our set. The crowd were dancing from the first song and most didn't stop - ace gig!
4. Hey, I'm all about the rock! Sure in the past I've dabbled in everything from garage-punk to metalcore but it all comes back to rock. Tomorrow night I'll be playing in front of about 2000 bikers who love the rock. It's never gone away, there are just a lot of varieties of it at the moment. Fender Ps generally sound dull and the music of Mr Pastorius bores me rigid. There i said it.
5. Sorry, that's the wrong way round. More turns around the post puts the string lower down the post and increase the angle - unless there's too much string and the winding overlaps the first turns and start to come up the post again. I generally like the string to be as low down the post as possible.
6. Our guitarist is also a very good bassplayer and has a Trace 15" combo. He uses his at home and cuts the bass frequencies so he can have more volume without shaking the neighbours' houses. I'd also agree with previous ideas to keep the input gain high.
7.
Did anyone catch what gear Carmine Rojas used in his recent U.K. tour with Joe Bonnamassa ? I was too far back to see, sounded very solid. (For anyone who does not know -Carmine Rojas is the Bassist on Bowie's Let's Dance)
Chantel McGregor (who played a charity gig with us a couple of weeks ago and is playing a bike rally with us this Sunday) jammed with Joe on the recent tour. Carmine was playing an ESP 5-string: and there are other pics on Chantel's website
8.
A Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas fan by any chance? :-)
No, I've not seen it actually. Is adrenochrome the chemical / song in the film?
9.
Sisters fan, I presume? Saw 'em live 4 times in the early 80's. Awesome live band. Welcome.
Oh yes! Though it's a sin that they don't currently have a live bassist (though 1 of the guitarists often plays bass on 1 or 2 songs).
10. I'm too young to remember that much of the 70s... 1. Roger Waters 2. John Paul Jones 3. Sting 4. Bruce Foxton 5. Stevie Wonder's left hand
11. I've been playing for almost 10 years, although it seems longer as my first experience was to join a band and start gigging shortly after, so I've played plenty of gigs in many bands. I play 4-string electric bass 99% of the time. I play fretless on 1 or 2 songs at most of my gigs. My 5-string is gathering dust in my attic - just don't need it for my covers band. I've never had a lesson on bass or guitar and I suspect my technique is poor. I started just playing fingerstyle but now happily play 50:50 pickstyle to generally match the recordings of the songs that we're covering. My band hasn't rehearsed properly since autumn and we're playing a motorbike rally on Sunday to a crowd of up to 2000 people [we're trying to get something sorted during this week...]
12. The only other instrument I've played in a gig is guitar; then only for a handful of songs. I played some violin and keys as a child.
13.
Hi Jon Welcome to the forum from a Cleckheaton lad What's the name of the band ??
Hi Tony, it's Jon from Angel Of Sin. I really must get to one of your gigs!

15. Hi everyone. My name is Jon, I'm a bassplayer currently living and working in Harrogate. I play semi-professionally in a covers band playing pubs, clubs, festivals, motorbike rallies and the occasional wedding/party. My 'thing' is getting very good results from budget priced (and 2nd hand) gear. Peace.
