1.
Just listen to as many of the Blues greats as you can - and maybe listen to Coco Montoya a bit too as he's a modern bluesman who's not stuck to 12 bar. Apart from that, try and find a blues jam night somewhere near & go & participate. G.
Cheers G, it's funny you mentioned Coco, your not the only one who said I should take a peek & there's a jam night near me that usually ends up bluesy so I'll round up my partner in crime & go have a knock.
2. After over a decade of playing rock covers I've decided that a new band is in order after Christmas with a new direction. I'm at the point now where if I have to play sex on bloody fire again my head will explode. That said, I'm interested in looking at the blues (I know, it's a feeling not a genre) as there is something about the idea that I like. There are a few bands around here that are respected and I'm going to make time to go out and see them over the next few weeks to get a feel. But in the interim, I guess the advice I'm looking for is who should I be listening to and what do you blues guys consider to be the Standards that work in the pub/club environment? I intend to fully emerse myself in it over the whiskey fuelled festive period and to build up my blues repertoire to give me a shot at auditions in the new year. Cheers Steve
3. Tru oil & gunstock wax, about half a bottle left in each. Ideal for unfinished necks & boards. free to collector.
4.
I kept the protective plastic on the black plate that came with this bass but clear is definitely the way to go, even if you have to put it on in clean-room conditions. Maybe that's just my OCD kicking in
no way dude, matte black single ply is definitely the way to go :-)
5. Most later maple necks are unfinished, they feel great but are a pig to keep clean and can start to look like weathered garden furniture. If your ok with that then cool but it did my head in. That's why my Ray is currently with Mr Shuker having the neck lacquered.
6.
If you need a hand, give me a shout - you live within walking distance of my workshop!
That's what I'd do ^^^^^
7. I haven't got any experience with them to be honest but I played a squire 5p and to me (only really play 4s) it was very useable. Maybe worth considering, think there was/is one for sale here.
8. I've often wondered why these aren't more popular.
9.
Are such things universal or do you have to find specific knobs per manufacturer?
6mm shaft usually Sam.
10. I have a similar half sleeve except my tape goes on to make up dates.
11. I've looked at his site & he does so I've emailed. Can't think of anyone I'd rather have do it he has an outstanding reputation. Cheer's
12.
Jon Shuker is in Derbyshire, if that's still the Midlands......
Cheer's, does he take on this kind of work?
13.
It'd be good if they're back in business, always fancied a vj4.
Me too
14. I've decided that I'm going to have the unfinished neck on my Stingray finished in lacquer. I have emailed Sims but had no reply so I wondered if anyone knows of someone local to me that can do the job to a high standard? Thanks in advance.
15.
Alright folks , so here is the question I have always been a Fender P bass player , i have 2 .. a Usa and Mex . I was contacted recently by a bloke who wants to swap his L2000 for my 2001 Mex P bass . I went down to the local guitar shop and played one and was very very impressed by it . Here is the thing i have been holding out for a MM Stingray !! and now im not sure what way to move , will i be disappointed eventually if i go for the G&L (i am aware that i am on a G&l forum so answers may be a bit biased) .. or should i just hold out for the MM that i know has the sound i want ... I also want a maple FB , this has Rosewood , not sure how to upload a pic .. Cheers , confused.com
I think it's obvious, the Ray has the sound you want & the G&L has a board you don't want. But, have you played a Stingray? So many people buy them then sell them on straight away saying they're one trick ponys (they aren't by the way).
16.
Maybe yeah.havnt seen any used ones for sale
That's because they're sooooo good :-)
17. Barefaced? barefaced? Not while there's two Neox 2/12's for sale here 😁
18. How about keeping it Yamaha & trying a BB? The 1024/5 & 2024/5 are amazingly good.
19. About £350..... I'll get my coat :-)
20. I reckon you'd replace it with an instant sense of dread & regret as you watch it driving off with someone else.
21. Why shouldn't people be allowed to moan and speculate if Howard's taken money from them over a year ago & ignored all communication since? He can't be so ill if he's out & about can he, certainly not so ill that he can't respond to the many people he owes money to. I know many here hold him in high regard but he's also upset a few & they should have a voice too.
