1.
That's my sparkly bitch, Ray 34 CA. Apparently there were only 150 made in this finish, I had no idea until it landed on my lap. God damn.
That just oozes funk...
2.
It is rather gorgeous. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you 👀
Thanks mate.
3.
If you're ever in the area and you fancied an exchange .................. You never know 😉
Oh mate, your old blue one is going nowhere (its that damn good). I am on the hunt for an early 90's three band with the wheel & finished neck in white though.
4.
Here are my 3 beauties, now on the wall
The white does it for me.
5.
OK, I had fun with this. This is me over the years. Picture left; in the early 70s playing rock at Crawley Bandstand with my first Framus bass. Centre; playing rhythm guitar (my late 70s Tele) in a rock 'n' roll band in the early 80s, Right; playing my USA '62 reissue Jazz (still my gigging bass) in a soul band - Commitments/Blues Brothers/Stax etc. I was with this band, The Soul Traders for about 18 years. This second photo is where I am now, all taken this year. Picture left; playing jigs and reels in a barn dance band (been doing this for 25 years, by far the best money maker!). Centre; with my rock 'n' roll band, Bluestreak. Right; playing jazz standards on my DB, on which I'm currently working to take Grade 5 at the end of the year. I've been playing bass for 45 years, almost constantly gigging in amateur bands. I never became famous, but had a whole bundle of fun and made lots of friends - brilliant! Paul
Great post, great pictures. I hope I have your outlook when I've been at it for forty five year's.
6. I use them on both my basses & to be honest they do the job as good as any other string I've tried. The Stainless Slinky's are nice too if you like bite.
7.
There are awards for it. They're called a bad back and impaired hearing
Now the EUB sounds more appealing.
8. 45 year's! Wow, you should get a medal for that.
9. I remember the build thread, still one of the best looking jazz's I've ever seen.
10. I gave up, couldn't find anyone prepared to try. Bought some Meelectronic M6's instead, hope they are decent.
11. I think Sims customs do them, check their website. Gigity
12. Come on fellas's, it can only be single ply matte black ;-)
13. They are made by Octone, cheapies from Amazon. They fit my ears really well though and that's why I'd like to get them fixed.
14. Cheers Matt, I'm currently trying to find someone to do it. The two I've spoken to won't touch it :-/
15. Lovely Bass in a lovely colour (i have the 3 band), hope you enjoy it. Kudos to Pete too.
16. It was definitely the plug, I tested it with different player's & when I moved the cable is when the cut out occurred. I'm not too handy with a soldering iron so I'm going to see if I can find someone local to have a go. I only bought them in Feb, shame to chuck them away.
17. I have a pair of IEM's I use for running, they're not expensive ones and the jack has a dodgy connection and keeps cutting out the right one. Anyone know how difficult they are to fix? There's three wires inside, I know this because I chopped the plug. Any advice gratefully received.
18. Weight has never been a problem for me (although I understand it is for many), I'm yet to play a bass that's uncomfortable because of how heavy it is.
19. Kudos to you Bub, must be something in the air with all this gear being given away.
20. Brian Wilson has a nice bassline (the live version)
21. I have to agree with Jake here to some extent. When I started playing I used tab exclusively and I feel it was detrimental to my progress. I knew nothing about the song in terms of chords and what key it was, I was just putting my fingers where the internet told me to. I don't consider myself to be a musician I'm a bass player in a pub band and it was only when I decided to learn a bit of theory that the penny started to drop. I still use tab if I need to but more often I will pick out the key, then determine what chords are used and come up with the line. I couldn't have done that before when I was reliant on tab. The new way is much more satisfying. For what it's worth I can't sight read but kudos to those who can. Edit# it really helps to know a bit if your going to take part in jams, just so when the guitarist shouts Bb to keep it going between songs you know what to play. There's no tab for that!
22. I'm looking for focus 1/12 for this exact purpose, let me know if you decide to split.
