1.
I'm going to use Tru-Oil (musicman style), for a fairly minimal but still finished feel.
I hear ya! I have a Stingray with an unfinished neck & when its got about ten coats of gunstock wax on it feels & looks great, I do wish it was lacquered sometimes though.
2. Looking really good. What finish (if any) are you going for?
3. Dare I suggest the Genz Contour, you probably won't get a new one but if you don't mind used then they are a cracking amp. The parametric mids are useful and the 2/10 provides lots of tight thump. Just over 20kg too.
4.
Ecky thump!!!!!!!!
Mercedes C class?
5. Where abouts are you? I've got a P-bass copy you can have for free if you want it. It'll need new strings but it should do to get you going. I'm guessing your somewhere near Manchester, I can get it to my friends in Rochdale if you can pick it up.
6. Loving it so far. I think I'd be tempted to leave the pickguard off:-@
7. The cheap as chips Harley Benton one should do the job for pubs and the like, your probably never going to use it so why splash out. Unless your ridiculously minted, then knock yourself out :-)
8.
I am seriously tempted by it, I love that blue & maple combo. How long did they run the £1000 offer for Pete? Trying to figure out how old it is.
Looks like it could be pearl blue, its a fantastic colour in the flesh, the metallic flakes really pop out under the lights. I have a single ply matte black guard on mine & it looks ace.
9. I don't think tab is such a bad thing for beginners provided they know why they are playing the notes in relation to the song. If they rely solely on tab I think they are doing themselves an injustice. I play in a covers band so reading is not really important to me, I'm never going to be a professional musician. So long as I can keep figuring out what I need to know by ear & my (basic) knowledge of scales & keys then I'm happy. There's lots of mileage gained from the major, minor & pentatonic.
10. Try setting the relief first then the string height. If it's set up to how you like it then the seasonal change happens you should only have to tweak the truss rod and not the string height. For me (Bb1024 & Stingray) it's fretted at the first and at the body joint then 0.012 at frets 7,8 & 9.
11.
How grippt are the backs of these things? My pet hate are straps that get my shirt all in a bunch. I've currently got a leather one that is shiny, slick leather on both sides and all the ones I can find for a replacement have high-grip suede or whatever on the underside.
They grip really well and for me that's perfect for holding the bass where I want it. I think any strap will ruffle your shirt a bit. You could always take it off Flea style but the local punters might not get it. I think they're some kind of neoprene underneath.
12.
Me, not at the back anymore since we became a four piece, except when the stage is tiny and back I go! Hope this works not posted a photo before.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=613566128679520&set=pb.100000784159566.-2207520000.1404806108.&type=3&src=https%3A%2F%2Fscontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-xpf1%2Ft1.0-9%2F1794630_613566128679520_43850653_n.jpg&size=480%2C720
It works Big Guy. Cool photo
13. I can only really echo what others have said, but I what I will add is if your looking to play with other's you should be considering amp's with 250 to 300 watts as a starting point. Even with 300 I often find myself looking for more headroom. As for practice and learning songs I use a mixer and headphones, its much more practical for me and I can take it anywhere.
14. If only it was the 2/12. Glwts
15. Nice, but can he do one with a fender logo on the headstock :-@ I'll get my coat!
16.
That's a hosepipe!
That was my initial thought :-)
17. While I agree with the world's best basses, I just can't get signature models. Give me one in natural and I'd be happy.
18.
looking away after being dazzled by the drummists shiney new biscuit tin lids
Nice shot Steve but what cable are you using? It's got girth :-@
19. I was hoping for a (cough cough) limelight thread! You know it makes sense!
20. Yamaha BB's have notoriously hot pickups so you probably shouldn't make the comparison between the two. If you like the tone of the jazz save your money & use the controls on your amp.
