If your after a regular gigging weapon I'd say Stingray but if it's just for home noodling and stuff maybe save your dollar & get the sterling. There's always the USA subs if you don't mind second hand, they're just Stingray's in their work clothes.

Can I maybe add another option to the quandary?!? I haven't used an amp for home practice for year's, I use a mixer with headphones and I can add whatever music source I like (usually tablet or phone). It's a cheap set up that packs away nicely, I don't disturb anyone and I can take it to work when I'm on nights. Then you could have time to decide on a gig rig should you start playing in bands.

The good thing about music is you can walk away, slag her off to your friends, belittle her in every way and she'll always take you back. Look at it as a break, you have plenty of time to discover other things and if you want to return to music so be it.

Some of Scott's stuff is available on YT, take a look and decide for yourself. He is a well respected tutor and a member here.

I figured that it was an effects type thing going on. I was trying to Google it but couldn't think what to type in the search bar. It never ceases to amaze me how technology is moving so quickly but I won't be ditching me meager pedal board just yet.

Increasingly I'm seeing musicians using IPad type contraptions at gigs, mainly perched on top of the bass rig or guitarists squeeler box. Now I'm not much of a technonerd and I'm not down with the kids but I'm baffled as to what these folks are doing! Is this some kind of effects thing or are they just doing Facebook type posing?

Pffftt, trolley's... I use a twelve year old boy but its OK because I own him. He's not strong enough for vintage gear but does OK with the Benz.

Every forum will undoubtedly have the odd nob or two, its just a case of figuring out who they are and avoiding them, or winding them up if that's your sport. Now, where did I put that troll...

Car manufacturers do it all the time, same part, made in the same factory but with different part numbers because they are for different applications. I guess the price difference is reflection of the bass they are intended for. I guess we'll never know.

I've always wanted a nice ebony board on my Yamaha but thought it an expensive mod, looks like more and more people are having boards changed though so I might fish around for some quotes.

I think relief and string height when set properly can make even a relatively bad bass play nice. Its all about ergonomics and economics and being easy to play, too much relief and more effort is needed for fretting.
