1. Haven't seen them live but have bought most of their lps over the years & I think Andrew Levy is a fantastic player. If I ever get the chance to play in a similar kinda band I'd jump at it. Rock schmock

hi

Welcome to the boards. Hope you don't mind my tuppence worth regarding the tabs, they're great for getting going quickly but always try and have one song to work out by ear or from chords. You can do both I think but using only tabs held me back for years. It doesn't take long to get used to doing it for yourself if you have some basic knowledge of scales, chords & keys. Hope you get you're Stingray too, they are great basses.
3. You made the right choice, just don't allow basschat time to encroach on your three hours practice as so many of us have in the past.
4. Welcome to Basschat non-cheese making Alex
5. Jeez you guys. My head spins when the amp has anymore than a three band rotary, how'dya cope with that lot?
6. Welcome Ed, I'm a fan of your work but if you should happen to bump into a certain Mr Armstrong (Austin's biggest Moron) please be sure to roll you're eyes at him in disgust.
7.
Finally got it back this afternoon. The photo shows the carbon fibre inserts used to reinforce the neck..
So did you set it up? How doe's it play?
8.
Cough http://basschat.co.u...n-russian-fuzz/ Muff based fuzz
Thanks for all the input fellas, gonna look at the Zoom units failing that you'll be getting one (pm) right in your inbox Woody.
9.
yep, hey are good but I found the BB5 I had a bit too clinical. I never connected with, might have been the fact it was a five string. Prefer a passive bass also, enough knobs on the amp to mess with the tone I don't need more on the bass. :-)
If you're ever in the Midlands you're welcome to come & feel my 1024 up. Play it through a Contour 2-10 too if you like.
10. Bowie's Slow Burn with Gail Ann Dorsey thumping the low notes.
11. Oh, good call. I hadn't thought of that. I'll have a look around.
12. We're looking at covering Inside Looking Out and I want to replicate the tone on the original recording. I have an ancient distortion pedal but I cant get close to what I hear on the record. I'm obviously an effects noob and don't have endless funds for trying different pedals so if anyone know's how I can get close I'd be forever in your debt. I can pay for advice in school age children but I want them back once they have a steady income. Ta. Steve *edit* Its a Stingray I'll be using *edit2* Anyone have experience with these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mooer-Micro-Pedal-Range-Trelicopter-Shimverb-Cruncher-Pure-Octave-etc-/380697614271?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item58a35897bf
13. Bb1024 maybe, tonnes of tone and versatile too.
14. +1 to the Gain control, that'd be my first tweak.
15.
I made this same choice. I chose a Contour 210, as at £300 it is a steal. It's not that small / light, but I suspect that it is far more versatile in terms of the gigs it can handle. EQ is great too. Nice and simple, everything you need, nothing more. Just my 2p

Well, I might be able to help here. I've owned both and am a current GB Contour owner (the 2x10). I'm yet to gig it, but I already feel it's going to work out better than the TC. Why? 1). I prefer the tone at lower volumes, it has more depth and punch 2). Toneprint is a useless gadget IMO - would rather have my amp simple and effective (which the GB is) 3). No extention cab out on the TC - daft move, 250w into 1x15" isn't enough headroom for your average pub band with loud drummers/guitarists 4). No reported issues (my first TC BG250 released the magic smoke) Cheers, James
Thank's fella's, I think I know where the smart money is. I play with two guitars & key's so the full 500w extension option is probably the deciding factor.
16. I'm buying a new combo today, have been torn between these & the GB Contour. I think I need to drink more tea while I decide. TC looks better but arguably has issues, then the GB just seems to be a bargain and has the option for an extension. Decisions decisions.
17. I bought this combo about eight or nine years ago and it's been used only at home. It has a twelve inch driver that produces a warm vitange tone and comes with a Carlsbro cover. Pm for piccies, Midlands pickup only please.
18. Hartke A35 bought here a couple of years ago. Ten inch aluminum driver and a tilt back design, great for home or studio use. In good used condition, pm for piccies. Midlands area pickup due to weight. £50
